How much school have your kids missed due to COVID this term?

Either being ill, schools having to shut or isolating as a contact?

I think we've been quite lucky. Both kids missed 2 days before half term as I was waiting for a test result (negative luckily), DD (in Y8) recently had a contact and was off for a bit but luckily the contact happened just before two days of planned school closure (nothing to do with COVID) so she only missed 7 days of school.

I have friends whose kids have been in and out loads and missed more school than they've had.

DD's secondary is small and split over two sites, so it was doing OK, but things really ramped up suddenly after half term and they had to move around curriculum because of teachers being off.

DS's primary seems to have not been affected much - a few kids being off waiting for test results (all negative).

I never believed in Sept that schools would make it to half term let alone Christmas without all shutting. I have kept back some days of holiday I can carry over as I fully expect some kind of shutdown or extended holiday Jan/Feb.

3 weeks each. I week is 2 x waiting for results, the other 2 as contact isolation from school (at different times though). Different year groups, but same school. It was all fine until half term, since then bubbles are popping all the time.

MillieEpple · 17/12/2020 07:55

5 weeks

ForeverBubblegum · 17/12/2020 07:57

None from isolation/ illness, though he did start term later then expected (nursary class at primary school) because they had to cancel all the visits over summer, so they had a more gradual transition. They also used the nursery staff to support reception transition, so didn't start with the new nursery kids until after the reception children were settled. It was mid October before DS was doing his full hours.

Ds year 11 none despite being in northwest that until recently was tier 3
Dd university student none
Think we must just of been lucky and I am really surprised as ds goes to a large high school and most of the children travel there on packed buses which the bus company refuse to put on extra buses as the rules only apply to public buses not contract ones apparently

Each of my kids have had 2 weeks of self isolation Y12 & Y13. My Y13 (at a special needs school)has had a reduced timetable since September and now finishes at lunch time 2 days a week. My Y12 has been sent home at lunchtime every day for the past 2 weeks (after a large number of cases) to reduce them socialising, in theory his lesson after lunch should be online but I would say less than half have actually happened.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 17/12/2020 08:02

None, but that is very lucky.

BiddyPop · 17/12/2020 08:13

DS Year 10. 4 weeks
DD Year 4. 3 days

joan12 · 17/12/2020 08:19

None - years 2, 7 and 9. Small primary, huge secondary

junglepie · 17/12/2020 08:23

we have done much better than expected tbh.
DD16 had one two week isolation due to close freind in her bubble testing positive
Dd14 had 1 week home learning due to lack of staff
Ds 12 also had one week of home learning due to lack of staff
All had 1 day isolating when dd16 had a cold with cough so awaiting test result (negative)

other than that it has all been fine really, and I am so glad and thankful they have managed a full term !

Lewesq4 · 17/12/2020 08:24

None at all here.

junglepie · 17/12/2020 08:24

oh yes, alo 2 student dc at uni (although now home) no isolations.

BakewellGin1 · 17/12/2020 08:26

DS has had 10 days of isolation but attended lessons remotely and completed set work. A few bubbles have been off but school seems to have managed it well so far.

supportivemyarse · 17/12/2020 08:26

none

Hoppinggreen · 17/12/2020 08:26

DS 1 day when his bubble was sent home and we were waiting for the lessons to be loaded onto TEAMS and DD the same

Sedona123 · 17/12/2020 08:31

None.

Primary school mostly in tier 2, now tier 3, just one covid case in the school in September.

lazylinguist · 17/12/2020 08:32

None until their school closed due to rising cases last Thursday. Online school started straight away the next morning with a mixture of live lessons and online tasks. Term ends today. So they'll have missed a week of actually being at school, but no missed learning.

usernotfound0000 · 17/12/2020 08:34

1 day, which was for a precautionary deep clean. DD is year 1. We're in tier 3 but lucky that there have been no cases in her bubble. I think that 3 other year groups have had 2 weeks off each since September.

Divebar · 17/12/2020 08:36

None. Year 4 - and her year has 100 pupils.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 17/12/2020 08:39

DS: none
Me (teacher): none

Different secondary schools.

iMatter · 17/12/2020 08:39

None - year 10 & 11

Y11 mocks done too

Huge relief to get to the end of term

I suspect next term will be different though

wendz86 · 17/12/2020 08:46

5 days in sept as youngest got a temp and took that long to get tested and a result .
2 days either side of half term as their dad tested positive and we isolated again .

OublietteBravo · 17/12/2020 08:46

DD: none
DS: 3 days (the test result was slow but negative)

OublietteBravo · 17/12/2020 08:47

(DS is a boarder, so DD wasn’t affected by his isolation period whilst waiting for the result)

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 17/12/2020 08:47

About three days when one of them had a cough and we were waiting for the test to come back
