From the National Audit Office report yesterday:

NHSE&I is currently planning on the assumption that up to 25 million people could be vaccinated against COVID‐19 in England throughout 2021 provided sufficient doses of vaccine are available.

@CoronaIsWatching

I don't think we will get back to normal for years, if ever. It really is similar to a world war in many ways.
I'm a historian by training (to PhD level, specialising in the early 20th century) and no, it really isn't comparable to either world war, even remotely. Sorry but thats an awful comparison.

@Waspnest

Oh sod off - we’re the first country in the WORLD to start vaccinating our population. Honestly, some people are never fecking happy!

Ain't that the truth (on MN).

Yes to this! I'm 'forrin' and a done-all-the-protests Remainer and even I'm going to give the UK some credit on this one. On a personal note, my frail 91 yo grandmother is currently hospitalised in my elsewhere-in-Europe home country and even she isn't likely to get the vaccine till January. She would quite possibly be done by now if she lived here.

We don’t all need to be vaccinated. The vast majority of us will get Covid, recover and be just fine. There’s a good chance a lot of us have already had it without realising!
All we need is the elderly and CV to be vaccinated then the rest of us will be left to get on with it. Yes some very unfortunate people may still die, but that’s the same with any virus. Post-viral symptoms are common for all viruses, not just Covid.
I reckon by the Spring we’ll be in a much better place. Loads more people will have been vaccinated, infections and deaths will be down, warmer weather means less virus spread.
I think things will start to re-open again by the spring, summer will be 75% back to normal and by next winter it will be 99% back to normal (I don’t think we’ll ever be 100%), I think peoples perceptions, habits etc will have changed permanently.
So we just need to knuckle down for a few more months, come on we can do this!
