Only 25 million to be vaccinated in 2021

From the National Audit Office report yesterday:

NHSE&I is currently planning on the assumption that up to 25 million people could be vaccinated against COVID‐19 in England throughout 2021 provided sufficient doses of vaccine are available.

Could you have done better?

Any 5 year old could have done better.

@Biscoff2020

The UK is such a joke. We should be able to aim for more than this! The US and other European countries are aiming to offer vaccines to the wider population by the summer of 2021 so why can't we? Their plans may slip but at least they are aiming for that but over here 'oh no, not until 2022, it's too difficult'.
The EU haven't even approved a vaccine yet.
SomewhereEast · 16/12/2020 15:26

Given many developing countries may be very lucky to manage to vaccinate even their HCPs and most vulnerable citizens in 2021, I don't think healthy 40yo Brits like me can complain. I honestly wish we would prioritise the high risk everywhere

Did you watch the panorama program this week on the Oxford vaccine? If not, try and watch it. It’s really reassuring. The top science bods are speaking about the virus and the vaccine.

I’d rather take their opinion as fact rather than the posters on a parenting forum. Remember that some posters on here are revelling in other peoples misery and fear.
This is true

I haven’t read report. Does it change if Oxford is approved?

Also agree with pp on taking out 11m children etc

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/12/2020 15:50

MarshaBradyo

Yes, I’m presuming the current vaccine program is not including the Oxford vaccine. It’s well worth a watch. I thought there would be a thread about the program on here. I couldn’t find one. It was hugely positive and interviews the Oxford team throughout the process.

It’s very insightful. They said the exit strategy for the pandemic is science. They said by Spring we will be back to normal.
They made the vaccines as soon as they could, not knowing if it had efficacy. So they were all ready to go if it was efficacious, which it is.

I highly recommend watching it.

Favouritebauble · 16/12/2020 15:53

There's nothing wrong with being disappointed not to be included in the vaccine rollout plans, after the sacrifices we've all made. As i have stated before it's not all death and long covid. I would say some of the more pompous posters on here might review their stance after experiencing the delights of the virus for themselves.

MarshaBradyo · 16/12/2020 15:53

Thanks Dobby I will it sounds good

I don’t understand your comment. We are the first country in Europe to start vaccinating. No other EU country has started a vaccination program.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/12/2020 15:57

@MarshaBradyo

Thanks Dobby I will it sounds good
We re watched it today. It’s so good. The team are fantastic, when you see how hard they worked and the obstacles they overcame. It’s a proud day for UK science.

Good to hear it from the horses mouth. Too easy to listen to the posters on here who have no clue and repeat false information.

MarshaBradyo · 16/12/2020 15:59

Absolutely and there’s a lot of negative speculation on here

TheSunIsStillShining · 16/12/2020 16:23

@DobbyTheHouseElk
Maybe they actually are reading through the whole documentation and debating? I feel this is a rush to the bottom that the UK has just won. In real terms a week or so makes no difference when the gov has already sacrificed so many lives by being careless, ignorant, idiotic gits.

Securing public trust and support is crucial. Race to the bottom -even if short term PR factor is high- is not the way to do it.

feelingverylazytoday · 16/12/2020 16:36

Christ, are you really this fucking thick? You clearly have no idea whatsoever.
WrongKindOfFace · 16/12/2020 16:48

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

Could this be based on the fact that so far only 1 vaccine had been approved and we only have enough doses ordered for 20 odd million people?

If not then that's absolute bollocks.

The vaccines dont have to be given by NHS staff, they could use pharmacists, the army etc

They were talking about training vets a while ago.

Talk about an anti climax.

The NHS has been advertising for covid vaccinators. Basically anyone with healthcare experience can apply.
TheSunIsStillShining · 16/12/2020 16:48

Have no idea of what? What has the gov done right in this whole mess?

User158340 · 16/12/2020 16:55

Would this mean people in their 60s, for example, Could be waiting most of the year to get a vaccine?

I thought the whole 'back to normal' by Easter spiel (although not reality) would mean they'd have got through the vulnerable age groups by then.

ATieLikeRichardGere · 16/12/2020 17:00

With increased and targeted testing, vaccines, some natural immunity and improved treatments all coming together, I think we are going to get to a better place soon. We can’t thank the UK government for much but we can thank the NHS and UK science sector for quite a bit, from methotrexate to the Oxford vaccine which hopefully will come on line soon.

starfro · 16/12/2020 17:06

Deaths by age. Get the over 70's done and you're most of the way there.

Only 25 million to be vaccinated in 2021
lunar1 · 16/12/2020 17:19

@TibetanTerrier, where did you find that list? I have psoriasis but haven't seen it listed before, though did know it increases risk being autoimmune.

notevenat20 · 16/12/2020 19:28

If we actually vaccinate the 25 million most vulnerable people then the pandemic is basically over. I wonder if we can do that though.

iVampire · 16/12/2020 19:46

25m is nearly half the adult population of the UK

It shows just what a substantial part of our population are vulnerable and elderly people, and at risk (severe illness or death)

CoronaIsWatching · 16/12/2020 19:50

I don't think we will get back to normal for years, if ever. It really is similar to a world war in many ways.

TheSunIsStillShining · 16/12/2020 19:56
@TibetanTerrier, where did you find that list? I have psoriasis but haven't seen it listed before, though did know it increases risk being autoimmune.
It's on the gov.uk site.
A lot of autoimmune conditions are not listed :(

RememberSelfCompassion · 16/12/2020 20:15

Years :(. My kids so want playdates again
I want to feel safe sending them to school!

TheSunIsStillShining · 16/12/2020 21:34

I'm selfish: I want to go to the dentist and not fear for my long term health

MadameBlobby · 16/12/2020 21:52

I’m not worrying too much. The country and the government can’t put up with this shite for over another year, let alone any of us as individuals!
