Are they really going to cancel Christmas?

And if they do, will loads of people just break the rules anyway?

It’s sodding ridiculous - myself and DP have barely left the house last week and won’t be going out this week either, other than walks in our local park. My parents have also been at home pretty much constantly. None of us has Covid 19 and the risk of catching it if we get together at Christmas is practically zero. So fed up with this shite!

"Yes, it's bizarre the fuss some people are making. You would think that no shops will be open between now and the 25th"

It's bizarre that some people don't RTFT before commenting.

That's the second time you've responded to different posts, completely taking them out of context.

UnseenDoreen · 15/12/2020 16:49

@midgebabe

Around 10% of under 50s seem to suffer long covid variants
Between 1 and 10% of parents are likely to die if this thing is uncontrolled . Up to 10% of adult children needing to bury a parent.

This is all made up. Certainly no more than 5% and that is rather generous for long covid, and for all age groups. In fact, Science Focus were quoting only 1%.

Can you provide some evidence of this 10% of under 50s? Ridiculous scaremongering.

Benjispruce2 · 15/12/2020 16:49

Personally I’d rather have relatives around in January than a Christmas dinner but hey, crack on!

Lostinacloud · 15/12/2020 16:50

It’s high time the public turned their hatred towards the leaders of this country and asked why we don’t have the capability in our hospitals to cope with a virulent winter virus instead of turning on each other and so falling for the government’s distraction techniques.

Lavanderrose · 15/12/2020 16:50
  • I mean tier 1 not 2, nothing has changed for you.
stovetopespresso · 15/12/2020 16:50

@Lavanderrose yes massive PR campaign so when spike occurs it will be "our fault" not theirs. no change in rules just reiteration.

treening · 15/12/2020 16:50

This in spades.

Belladonna12 · 15/12/2020 16:51

@treening

You would think that no shops will be open between now and the 25th.

I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to set foot in a supermarket between now and Christmas thanks.

It feels a lot less safe to do that than it does to see my mum, frankly.

If your mother is by herself you conform a bubble . If you don't want to go to the shops you can get a delivery.
Kljnmw3459 · 15/12/2020 16:51

Makes no difference to me now but there's going to be a lot of very unhappy people if they go back on their plans now.

treening · 15/12/2020 16:51

Personally I’d rather have relatives around in January than a Christmas dinner but hey, crack on!

Well you won't be able to do that either way, so not really sure of the relevance there.

Belladonna12 · 15/12/2020 16:51

conform can form

MassiveSalad · 15/12/2020 16:51

Ah but this is what they want Lostinacloud. They've done such a good job at diverting attention from their catastrophic failures, let's blame people for being people and doing people things. I, for one, don't buy into it but many do. They all seem to be on here too!

Benjispruce2 · 15/12/2020 16:52

By ‘around’. I mean alive.

treening · 15/12/2020 16:52

If your mother is by herself you conform a bubble

She isn't.

If you don't want to go to the shops you can get a delivery

Generally I do, but I wasn't able to secure a Christmas slot. The Christmas food we will eat at my mum's is being delivered from her local farm shop.

stovetopespresso · 15/12/2020 16:53

@treening agree nhs is under-funded but even Germany which has a better funded health care system is struggling to cope.

I have read it thank you. I think people are making an unnecessary fuss about one day.
nosswith · 15/12/2020 16:55

@MassiveSalad I do not forget that Mr Johnson has been so poor that more people have died from Covid 19 in this country than were killed in the UK by Nazi bombing.

And do not forget when it comes to voting.

treening · 15/12/2020 16:55

Europe cocked up its pandemic handling.

myhobbyisouting · 15/12/2020 16:56

Ah ok. "Bizarre" then that you felt it was Hmm that we would see FIL in our situation, rather than have him go shopping.

Unsure33 · 15/12/2020 16:56

@Lostinacloud

What cloud are you on.this is not just a case of increased flu .

A local hospital has 74 staff off with covid symptoms.

I know a factory where they had 600 staff and 200 off at once with covid . How can you prepare for that ?

You can’t just train up nurses and doctors within 6 months

Normal flu has approx 1100O to 17000 deaths per annum

If we had carried on with 1000 deaths per day that would be 365000 deaths in a year . There is no way any health service could prepare for that .

Italy have a really well funded and respected health service and they could not cope at all.

Unsure33 · 15/12/2020 16:57

@treening

So how have usa handled it then ?

Belladonna12 · 15/12/2020 16:57

Generally I do, but I wasn't able to secure a Christmas slot. The Christmas food we will eat at my mum's is being delivered from her local farm shop.

You can't get a Christmas slot at the moment but they are still delivering until about the 20th.

Kjc39 · 15/12/2020 16:58

I was reading ONS death statistics for October. 2020 death stats were lower than in October 2019 and significantly lower than 2002. We didn’t lock down then did we! Seriously, just do what’s right for your own family

Benjispruce2 · 15/12/2020 17:00

Well I can’t afford to shop at a farm shop so obviously not privileged Hmm

Unsure33 · 15/12/2020 17:00

@nosswith

So all governments in Spain , france , belgium , USA Etc etc should all be booted out because they could not cope with a worldwide pandemic ?

Labour have supported nearly everything that the government has done at the time . So what would they have done differently except those even more money at it ?
