My DCs closed today, along with most in our borough. Or rather, learning has been moved online.

I'm so sad for the kids. My eldest is on yr6 and was due back tomorrow following a burst bubble. The bubble only burst because a stupid parent didn't follow the rules and sent their child in whilst waiting for a test result. DD is really sad, just wanted to go back, see her friends, and have her final primary Xmas party Sad

I know why it's been done. But I'm gutted fir my kids right now.

Our high school closed on Thursday due to very, very high cases.

Primary finishes Friday as planned.

Vinorosso74 · 14/12/2020 17:01

DD finishes tomorrow now (only one day early) so unsure if there'll be much online learning on Wednesday! The council have advised schools to do this and not to open until 11th Jan with a week of remote learning. I hope it is just a week!
I understand the reason why as cases are increasing in London. Cases in our borough are a lot lower than Havering and surrounding areas so I hope this helps.

Bluegreen70 · 14/12/2020 20:46

yes, my school has closed several times. We have been closed more than open for months

NorthernChinchilla · 14/12/2020 20:48

Daughter's Infant School closed last week, Wednesday. She was already in her third lot of SI. Son's Junior School still open somehow! Kent.

Thatwentbadly · 14/12/2020 20:51

No. Will close on Friday at 3 as normal. Some how we have managed to so far avoid her class having to isolate but the classes above and below her have had to isolate.

MimsyBorogroves · 14/12/2020 20:53

Nope. 3 different schools in this family and we are all still in. Both mine and DS1's schools have been skeletons at certain points but have had to remain open.

Hohomerryxmas · 14/12/2020 20:54

High school closed on Friday, learning at home all this week, primary school will close 2 days ahead of schedule so DC only have tomorrow and Wednesday left before they break up for Christmas.

BertieBob · 14/12/2020 20:59

I'm in Wales, all colleges and secondary schools are closed. Some Primary schools have closed too, ours close Wednesday.

MarshaBradyo · 14/12/2020 21:03

Secondary open

WillSantaBeComingToTown · 14/12/2020 21:09

@Bluegreen70

A whole school has been closed more than open since September (for months)

A whole school?

Where?

Shuffled · 14/12/2020 21:14

DC college closed last week. All online classes until this Friday.

Crunchymum · 14/12/2020 21:15

Our whole borough has been advised to close tomorrow (until 11th Jan)

middleager · 14/12/2020 21:16

Nope, but DS is on his Sixth self isolation ☹️

BaileyBoos · 14/12/2020 21:18

No my children’s primary hasn’t closed and the whole school hasn’t had a case of covid.
I’m pretty sure it has but no “official” case.
Same as the school I work in. No cases as of yet. Finishing on Friday. Tier 3 area (west mids).

bluechameleon · 14/12/2020 21:22

DS1's school is open and unlikely to close as they haven't got any year groups closed. Mine closed today because almost all groups were closed and the remaining ones didn't have enough staff.

RoseMartha · 14/12/2020 21:23

Still open. There has been a frw cases at school where pupils and staff have had to isolate if in close contact.
The area i live in has had one or two schools shut for a week since half term and not at the same time.

CeeJay81 · 14/12/2020 21:28

Yep high schools closed on Friday (Wales) and primary finishes today. It's an all-through school on 2 seperate campuses, neither had any official cases. So noone has had to isolate at all.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 14/12/2020 21:28

Yes - closed last Friday (as planned - term dates published 18m ago and unchanged).

choosername1234 · 14/12/2020 21:29

Our primary school shut partially today and full closure from tomorrow. We are in London

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/12/2020 21:30

A whole school?

Where?

That has happened in loads of places. It didn't make the news though, did it! Often in my county it was the schools who offered specialist provision - so the ones who were for the most vulnerable children - you know, the ones the government are so worried about. Ahem.

My school was on the edge a few weeks ago - due to lack of staff. We had a third of the children off isolating, and a number of staff in addition to those bubbles too. We're an inner city primary.

My child's school has not had to close even a bubble, but hers is a small rural school in a low covid area (so far).

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 14/12/2020 21:33

I've just looked - 4 schools completely closed in my county at the moment. I'm in a Tier 2, relatively low transmission area. The schools are rural schools, or specialist provision.

Pipandmum · 14/12/2020 21:34

No. Only one child has been positive (population of over 800) and only a handful had to isolate. Really good systems in place, their own track and trace system, and now a quick testing machine that delivers results in ten minutes. Private school though.

But not more that they have been open for the last few months?

But the quote said closed more than open for the last few months

Lots have been closed but I am interested where has been closed more than open?

Closed more than open for the past few months?

Not just closed for a few days due to staff shortage- closed more than open?
