@OrangeBananaFish yes I would say they are reliable. They were a day ahead of an official Oxford announcement in July. Was it phase 2 results? I can’t remember but they had the info the day earlier if I remember rightly

OrangeBananaFish · 29/12/2020 18:11

Thanks @chri55ie

blametheparents · 29/12/2020 19:40

Twitter’s Coronavirus Good News is usually pretty accurate. I’ve followed them since April and they are measured, yet positive.

chri55ie · 29/12/2020 20:06

Yes I have as well. That’s why that tweet surprised me I guess!

Bathroom12345 · 29/12/2020 20:42

It does make sense in that you give the bad news and then the good news (Oxford vaccine approved) it will come across much better. If there were really big issues with Oxford it would be leaked by now if only to test the water (I think!!)

goldpendant · 29/12/2020 21:01

Yep, I recall Hancock announcing more going into tier 4 last week and icing it with "I'm delighted to tell you that.... wait for it.... Oxford have submitted final data to MHRA"

I thought I was about to cry with relief the way he built that one up!!

FuzzyPuffling · 29/12/2020 21:17

Wasn't last week's good news "but the Chelsea pensioners have had their first vaccination"? Which didn't work for me!

Astra Zeneca shares up 3.3% today in anticipation of vaccine rollout starting early Jan, according to BBC News.
Another +ve sign Smile

TeaInTheGarden · 29/12/2020 21:28

@goldpendant me too I was almost in tears when he did that, I thought the wait was over!

FourTeaFallOut · 29/12/2020 21:31

It's always the last day that you think that it is going to be plus an additional day for good measure. So, tomorrow is definitely going to be the day.

Bathroom12345 · 29/12/2020 21:45

Yes that last Hancock message was awful. And the Chelsea pensioners mention whilst worthy was just cruel to us.

Anyone know what time the briefing is?

blametheparents · 29/12/2020 21:51

My suspicion is that the MHRA will announce that Oxford is approved. The Govt won’t do this.
Later in the day, Hancock/Johnson will have a press conference. They’ll say that Tier 5 is required now, that schools can’t all go back, but that we can all now see that there is light at the end of the tunnel and to just hold on and accept the new restrictions for a bit cos we’re nearly there.

Yes, this is exactly what I think will happen.

Ohhh! Lol

goldpendant · 29/12/2020 22:27

In other positive updates, I've been invited to the next stage for vaccinator role, online training and pre-employment screening! Exciting Grin

tobee · 29/12/2020 22:36

Well done @goldpendant

TeaInTheGarden · 29/12/2020 23:34

I just told DH that I didn’t sleep properly last night as every time I stirred I was checking my phone to see what time it was and if there were any notifications. He thinks I’ve lost it! Personally I think he’s mad not to be more invested in the news that could save us all from this awful situation. Each to their own I suppose....

MarcelineMissouri · 29/12/2020 23:42

The twitter account coronavirus good news is posting about approval for Oxford tomorrow but with the dosage at 2 full doses 2-3 months apart!! If that’s the case I hope it provides some immunity after the first dose like the Pfizer one!

chri55ie · 29/12/2020 23:51

Christian Martin (ultimo momento fame) has posted vaccine to be approved early tomorrow too.

MarcelineMissouri · 29/12/2020 23:52

I think his tweet is what the corona virus good news tweet is based on!

Fingers crossed!

chri55ie · 29/12/2020 23:54

I’m not sure how he knows but he has been correct before I think!

TeaInTheGarden · 30/12/2020 00:16

Intrigued about the 2-3 month gap. This could be brilliant if it means more people can get their first dose sooner, and wait for more doses to be produced for the second dose.
I hate to think of all those second doses sat waiting doing nothing if they could be being used....

didireallysaythat · 30/12/2020 00:21

I'm in the last group to get the vaccine (50 years old) - there are 23-27M people in front of me (assuming 70% take up) which means at the current rate I'm looking at June-August. Kinda puts in into perspective. I'm not sure what use the webinars for schools will be, but maybe the military could help speed up the vaccination rate?

FourTeaFallOut · 30/12/2020 00:27

They have recruited 10000 additional vaccinators. They'd only have to do 100 jabs each/ week to hit one million. I'm pretty sure the nurse got a good 50 in 40 minutes I stood in line for the flu jab.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/12/2020 00:29

Actually, there were two nurses on, but even so...I think the number of jabs per week is being undersold because we've never seen anything like it before.
