I know it's not the best source, but looks like 4th of Jan is roll out day

TeaInTheGarden · 26/12/2020 23:29

Wow this sounds even better than we dared to hope!! I can’t believe the anticipation, we need this soooooo badly!

Mumof3andlovingit · 26/12/2020 23:39

Oh let it be true! Would be fab news. I really have high hopes for the Oxford vaccine!
Also pleased if teachers and school staff are prioritised too, my DC school has had so many staff off with the virus and some staff still off weeks later (tier 3 area)

FourTeaFallOut · 26/12/2020 23:42

Prioritised over whom?

TeaInTheGarden · 26/12/2020 23:50

Just watched the 11:30 press preview on sky and yes only brief but they definitely said new data suggests oxford is as effective as Pfizer- woohoo!

Also talk about the idea of giving more people just one dose to get more people covered- this sounds like a great idea particularly for younger, non vulnerable people. Not sure if this was only in relation to Pfizer though.

bumblenbean · 27/12/2020 00:02

Thank god for those amazing scientific bods- surely the sheer volume of the oxford vaccine will be a game changer!

Does anyone know if they still plan to eventually roll The vaccine out to all adults that want it, once the vulnerable groups are done? There was talk before of it never being offered to under 50s which I thought was a bit short sighted - appreciate our risk is statistically low but I’d rather not take my chances if I have a choice 😆

Crumpetycrump · 27/12/2020 00:03

Prioritised after frontline healthcare workers so very high priority.

FourTeaFallOut · 27/12/2020 00:35

It says the first priority is to vaccinate the most vulnerable 12-15 million first. Thankfully.

cathyandclare · 27/12/2020 03:53

This is amazing news, it sounds like either the big USA trial results are in or else they've got final data from the UK/Brazil trials. The papers are all so positive. The Telegraph also reporting 4th Jan roll out.

TheChineseChicken · 27/12/2020 07:21

I can’t seem to read any of these articles but yay!

MarshaBradyo · 27/12/2020 07:31

Incredible!!

TeaInTheGarden · 27/12/2020 08:12

It’s brilliant to see this getting such coverage- I’ve been wondering why the media haven’t been speculating about it more. I’m hoping this is a good sign for approval definitely being on the way, as they like to report shut stuff just before it happens.... 🤞🏻

FuzzyPuffling · 27/12/2020 08:31

Oh wow...I hope this is is so...it sounds better than I could have imagined.
I didn't sleep well so was listening to the world service on and off all night. Some reports said news tomorrow, another said Thursday. Maybe I misheard and it's report tomorrow, vaccinations Thursday?
I can hang on a few more months though, if I know it's on its way.

Yes, there was a press conference a few weeks ago at which one of the chief medical officers (can’t remember if it was Whitty or Van Tam) made it clear. He said the reason we haven’t decided on a priority is that we can make that decision more sensibly once we know more about how the vaccine behaves in the community, ie the impact on spread, but occupational groups as a way to decide are very much on the table. Kate Bingham had previously said we wouldn’t be doing healthy under 50s but she apparently shouldn’t have said that!
MarshaBradyo · 27/12/2020 09:42

A quick read and I’m so grateful for this thread.

Still doom and gloom on here no matter what. Ridiculous!

MarcelineMissouri · 27/12/2020 09:42

This times article seems to be available to read - it was for me anyway!

Thanks, I was able to read that. All sounds fantastic. The guardian take on it was characteristically subdued

TheChineseChicken · 27/12/2020 10:08

I really needed this today. I went to bed last night feeling very despondent - Christmas school holidays to fill with little to do (tier 4), potential for schools not going back in January, ending maternity leave soon with a very anticlimactic shuffle to my home desk (I miss my colleagues!) along with the feelings of sadness and guilt at sending my baby to nursery, and a milestone birthday coming up with no way of celebrating properly. So hurry the fuck up with the vaccines already!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/12/2020 10:46

I feel like they’re torturing us with the Oxford vaccine approval, it’s been just round the corner for so long now!

feelingverylazytoday · 27/12/2020 10:52

Ok, more of a positive opinion than news. And it is the DM but ...

I feel so much hope today for the Oxford there'd are so many doom mongers on Mumsnet

midgetem · 27/12/2020 11:00

Such good news on Oxford really hope it gets approved tomorrow!

I understand the need to prioritise teachers to help keep schools open if possible, but please don't prioritise them over the shielded! I've been sheilding since March, and apart from the odd weeks, my hubby has been living elsewhere so as not to put me at risk (he is a keyworker) I really want my life back, I know everyone does, but still don't keep me sheilding much longer please!

FuzzyPuffling · 27/12/2020 11:03

midgetgem we've been shielding too (DH and I, fortunately together) and I honestly don;t think there's any suggestion that anyone in Phase 1 will get shunted down the list. I read it as after Phase 1 is completed (that's the over 60s plus all CEV and CV people) then they might look at prioritising occupational groups.

I could be wrong, but that makes clinical sense to me.

OP posts:
FourTeaFallOut · 27/12/2020 11:06

I'm not sure if the 12-15 million people stated would include the entire phase 1 cohort, would it but I think it would cover group 4, including the shielded🤞

Mumof3andlovingit · 27/12/2020 11:07

I’ve not heard teachers being prioritised over the shielded or anyone in phase 1. I have heard they will be prioritised in phase 2 after all phase 1 have been vaccinated. Apparently it will be alongside others who are in high exposure occupations (police, supermarket staff etc) because at the moment there have been no plans to prioritise people from these professions.
