@Layladylay234 that's so exciting - I completed my online video questions a few days ago - how long have you waited for a response?? I'm hoping to do mine as a 'secondment' from work, if I get selected!
Hi,I completed my video interview last Tues (I think!) then they sent me another email to complete another form to state I had no underlying health conditions. Then this new email x

FuzzyPuffling · 26/12/2020 15:14

You reminded me Countess, I have lots of fabric ready for me to make clothes with. (I am amazed at your old Singer sewing canvas...respect!)

@Layladylay234 thanks that's good to know rough timescales!

I did my video questions on the 23rd, fingers and toes are crossed for the good news on the vaccine, and the hopefully a follow up email in the next week or so!!

Ooh spring! I love spring and summer. Might be especially good this year. Not a winter person unlike most of Mumsnet apparently is, with everyone's hot chocolates and snuggling under the duvet! Xmas Grin

My strategy for coping with the months ahead is to focus on health and fitness including sleep, rest, exercise, meditation and diet. I have a lot of work on though, so will partly depend on school opening or not.

I’m also aiming to scroll less and read more books. I wasted a lot of time doom scrolling about Brexit, and want to spend less time on reading news obsessively! I like this thread, and one on Reddit to get info and good explanations on the science.

Great news about volunteering - brilliant!

In my head this is also my strategy. However, in reality.....

I was doing really well at getting fit and losing weight LAST spring when this damn pandemic began and I had to comfort eat and couldn’t go swimming Angry

tobee · 26/12/2020 18:21

Biscuits

Blerg · 26/12/2020 19:07

@tobee I hear that! I have a lot of weight to lose though. I am hovering over and under BMI 40 and though quite functional the fact I’d be eligible for the vaccine has been a shock.

MarshaBradyo · 26/12/2020 19:11

I’m sticking to exercise, low carb and watching flowers / plants start to grow. Read more books. Do some wfh

All a lot easier if nursery is ok (being positive it will be no issues yet)

tobee · 26/12/2020 20:22

Actually, what I'm most looking forward to at the moment is not constantly doing a personal assessment:- "can I smell? Can I taste? Is that a rash? Am I hot? Am I coughing? Is my chest tight? Am I sneezing? Is my nose running? Am I tired? Have I got a weird headache? Is my throat sore?" Etc etc. Just have a normal cold and not worry.

Or maybe that's just me.

mrshonda · 26/12/2020 20:34

Little green spikes of snowdrops are coming up in my garden. Soon they'll be flowering x

MarcelineMissouri · 26/12/2020 22:47

Just watching the Press Preview on Sky and they’re saying that an article in The Times tomorrow quotes the head of Astra Zeneca saying that new data shows the Oxford vaccine to be as effective as the Pfizer one and still 100% effective at preventing severe disease!! I cannot wait to read this properly tomorrow!! Hope I’ve understood it correctly!

MarcelineMissouri · 26/12/2020 22:56

Just rewound it and listened again. That is definitely what they are saying. Shame I can’t post a video as I recorded it on my phone to send to dh!

FourTeaFallOut · 26/12/2020 22:59

Looks like it's the front page of the Sunday Times and it says the Oxford vaccine is as effective as the Pfizer and moderns vaccine.

You have to squint your eyes but you can see it here.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/12/2020 23:00

Moderna

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/12/2020 23:03

Yay.
We get the Sunday Times delivered so I can look forward to it as soon as I wake up tomorrow. Smile

GoldenOmber · 26/12/2020 23:03

I’m at my limit for free Times articles but if anyone’s got a subscription, looks like it’s from this interview www.thetimes.co.uk/article/interview-astra-zenecas-pascal-soriot-our-vaccine-has-a-winning-formula-to-beat-covid-19-httk3wzkm

Crumpetycrump · 26/12/2020 23:08

That’s amazing news Grin.
I wonder how they have got to that result?!

MarcelineMissouri · 26/12/2020 23:08

Omg how amazing is that. Please let it be so.

Blerg · 26/12/2020 23:16

The Telegraph front page on that link says millions to get the Oxford jab from 4th Jan.

Crumpetycrump · 26/12/2020 23:16

It also says something about school staff being prioritised after frontline nhs staff I think?

MarcelineMissouri · 26/12/2020 23:24

The Mail headline is really positive as well - 15 million people vaccinated needed to really make a difference and we’ve already done nearly 1 million. I know they need their 2nd jab still but that is also with only using the Pfizer vaccine.

chri55ie · 26/12/2020 23:27

He is convinced now that subsequent data from the trial will show Astra has achieved an efficacy equal to Pfizer/BioNTech at 95% and Moderna at 94.5%. “We think we have figured out the winning formula and how to get efficacy that, after two doses, is up there with everybody else,” he says. “I can’t tell you more because we will publish at some point.”

chri55ie · 26/12/2020 23:27

Sorry forgot to add that’s the relevant bit from the Times mentioned above
