Do it! Let me know what you think?
It’s not super jolly right now but compared to radio 4 at times it is practically a New Year’s Eve party

sashagabadon · 24/12/2020 11:00

Oh agree re guardian and again I’ve read it for years. Never read it or but it now

FuzzyPuffling · 24/12/2020 11:32

I read the Guardian online, but am selective!

I'm listening to Matt Chorley now sasha. Loving the cool jazz in the background. And now some science. Yay! (Although I could do without the specsavers adverts!)

Does anyone know how other countries are doing - are we part of this deal where 20pc of each country must be vaccinated before any further can ? So even if we get that done by March do we then have to wait ?

chri55ie · 24/12/2020 12:39

@sashagabadon I too am a times radio convert. Have listened to BBC Radio 5 live for years but couldn’t cope with the negativity over last few months

MarshaBradyo · 24/12/2020 12:43

The Guardian is absolutely appalling. Just endless misery

Haha so much this. I think they’re running free with anti gov agenda and every turn is to put the boot in a bit more. Time to shine and all that.

mrshonda · 24/12/2020 12:54

My friend in York was just vaccinated!

InterfectoremVulpes · 24/12/2020 13:46

I think if OxAz is approved next week there would be much more compliance if it was then announced we needed to lock down and close schools for 4/6 weeks whilst the vaccinations were rolled out to the most vulnerable (and whoever else they can fit in during this period).

Its the uncertainty and last minute changes that causes people to bend rules.

Yes you have to put up with the adverts but it’s a small price to pay to not feel like the world is going to end every 5 minutes 😁

I agree, if people could see an end in sight and see the vaccine total ticking up it would all seem much more manageable.

They didn’t use to be this bad ( or maybe they did and I never noticed) I actually think it is a consequence of their free but donations business model. They get a lot of funding from the US and teamed up with Vice (!) too a few years ago when the new editor arrived. Hence why I think they are very anti U.K. and big on all that gender stuff as the US pays their bills these days.

A bit off-topic but I agree. The Guardian used to be OK, but in recent years they've been trying to appeal to the American 'woke' market. And it shows.

sashagabadon · 24/12/2020 14:28

Yes sorry it is off topic and not really good news ( as you can’t find any in the guardian anyway Grin)

Grin even in that momentous day we got a working vaccine they grumbled. Boo to them!
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/12/2020 14:32

My parents are loyal Guardian readers and I have been shocked over the course of the year by how negative their expectations are - ‘it’s unlikely there will be a working vaccine’ etc. The only reason I can think of is that they get their news almost entirely from the Guardian. I have been particularly puzzled by it as they’re both scientifically literate- mum retired from a biology teaching career and did a postgrad degree in immunology.
I wish they would give up on the Guardian, they moan all the time about it being innumerate, but after 60 years (and my dad writing some science articles for them when he was a postgraduate in the early 60s) they are not going to contemplate changing.

sashagabadon · 24/12/2020 14:40

My parents too! They have been pretty pessimistic which is not like them at all. I hadn’t thought the guardian could be the one of the reasons.
But I grew up with the times then they stopped getting it when princess Diana died as the Sunday times referred to dodi as princess Diana’S “ lover” which my dad found disrespected so ditched the times for the guardian. I am going to make it my 2021 mission to get them to swap back Grin

Oh yes, this is so true
GoldenOmber · 24/12/2020 15:21

More updated vaccine figures: at least 628,386 across the UK! And probably more because at least some of the nations are only providing updates up to Sunday previous (not sure about the England figures).

MarshaBradyo · 24/12/2020 15:42

Bit unrelated but so good re Brexit deal!

Really pleased to hear Johnson back in his element

Good on him and all negotiators
