ChineseChicken
‘ No but I was also wondering about the Moderna vaccine and when we will review that. We have some on order, don’t we?’

As I understand it Moderna won’t be reviewed till they’ve finished Oxford because we won’t be getting it for a while so there’s no rush.

MarcelineMissouri · 23/12/2020 17:55

@TeaInTheGarden

Watching news briefing and really thought MH was about to announce oxford had been approved. Instead he said they’ve submitted their final data.... did we not already know that..?! Playing with my emotions here! Great news that they are vaccinating in care homes now though.
I actually cheered out loud..... what a let down!

Pretty sure Astra Zeneca roll out will start almost immediately on approval? Not 3 weeks?

blametheparents · 23/12/2020 18:32

@GoldenOmber

Anyone heard much about Novavax? I know UK have bought a lot of doses of that and that the Phase 3 trial should be producing results fairly soon, but I don’t know when we’d be in line to start getting the doses if it works and gets approved.
@GoldenOmber

Novavax is expecting initial phase 3 trial data at the end of January. Guess it might be quicker now that rates are higher!

GoldenOmber · 23/12/2020 18:59

Oh that’s good news! (Well obviously not the high rates themselves, but silver linings and all that!)

TeaInTheGarden · 23/12/2020 19:11

I guess the good thing about vaccines still in phase 3 trials is they will kind of know more about whether it definitely works ok the new variant straight away.

Mybrowneyedgal · 23/12/2020 19:29

Thank you countess. So at what stage are they expecting an impact on hospitalisations and deaths?

ChristmasinJune · 23/12/2020 19:29

I think this is something that will improve 2021, at the moment we're highly focussed on the 3 vaccines that have completed testing and how many doses of that are headed our way, hopefully though as time goes on there'll be more vaccines successfully completing trials and so things will speed up significantly.

FuzzyPuffling · 23/12/2020 19:37

IT's NOT three weeks from approval. It's three weeks from submission of final data.

That's already been done...the countdown had begun.

Everything crossed for December 28th/29th for the Oxford AstraZeneca!

MarshaBradyo · 23/12/2020 20:16

Totally! It all rests on you my friends (Ox / Az)

Ah! Right @FuzzyPuffling I didn't read/think properly!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/12/2020 20:43

It wasn’t 3 weeks from Pfizer final data to roll out though was it? I thought final data was submitted to MRHA on 23rd November and first jabs were 8th December so just over a fortnight.
If anything the gap between approval and rollout should be quicker this time because we already have the vaccine programme up and running and there is no need for fancy fridges.

TheChineseChicken · 23/12/2020 20:45

I wouldn’t be surprised if they started within a day of approval - it will all be ready to go

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/12/2020 21:08

Yes, wouldn’t that be brilliant!

FuzzyPuffling · 23/12/2020 21:39

It would be fab. And I really hope they speed it up. We need that flipping vaccine pronto.

( Only talking the 3 week thing from my time working with medical researchers. But as we know, this is "unprecedented". Sorry sorry.... )

Wonder if we will ever get to the stage where there will be another vaccine approved, but we wont be as bothered because they will be a long way down the line and we will be getting back to normal.

Anyway 6 more sleeps until 29th Grin

Please not 3 weeks. Even if some hubs aren’t ready. I would be a vaccine volunteer. Helping with queues, data entry. Just anything really.

Does anyone know if they need runners, extra pair of hands etc. I have a project management background and can take time off work if required.

Bathroom12345 · 23/12/2020 21:56

Are the vaccines already manufactured and in the right places?

Yes I think they want loads of volunteers and St John's ambulance is coordinating it!

Bathroom12345 · 23/12/2020 22:26

Thank you! I am fully mobile and work part time so can do whatever.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/12/2020 22:30

In my area volunteers have been helping gps with vaccines via the local covid mutual aid group and the existing community transport volunteer group.
They needed people at very short notice.

Bathroom12345 · 23/12/2020 22:32

Rats. Just looked. They aren’t taking the general public and are pointing me towards NHS responders.

I already am a Responder and have had the grand total of 2 calls. One was a man who didn’t know why I was calling and the other was a voicemail and despite me calling a few times they never picked up.

tobee · 23/12/2020 22:33

Nearly!

Bathroom12345 · 23/12/2020 22:33

Might speak to my GP surgery. My DH did delivery of prescriptions in the last lockdown.
