Me too @OrangeBananaFish, me too! Positive article on the vaccine from The Standard. ' Oxford Vaccine approval within days. John Bell reports the data is looking 'better than ever'.

I'm an incredibly impatient person and even taking that into account I don't think I've ever anticipated anything as much as Oxford vaccine news.

I feel like just bugger off Christmas, let's get on with it. I need to slow down and enjoy it with the DC, and be grateful we are all ok, together and well fed etc.

TeaInTheGarden · 23/12/2020 15:05

Could have written that post myself @TheWorstShed 😂😂

TeaInTheGarden · 23/12/2020 15:06

I’m now wondering what the data they wanted on Monday was, is it the US data? Is it better efficacy? I need the information now! The anticipation is too much 🙈😳

alreadytaken · 23/12/2020 15:19

In case it hasnt been posted - antibodies lasting at least 8 months medicalxpress.com/news/2020-12-covid-immunity-months-reveals.html

TeaInTheGarden · 23/12/2020 15:19

Watching news briefing and really thought MH was about to announce oxford had been approved. Instead he said they’ve submitted their final data.... did we not already know that..?! Playing with my emotions here!
Great news that they are vaccinating in care homes now though.

alreadytaken · 23/12/2020 15:20

forgot to say - vaccine was going into at least some Welsh care homes this week. Second hand information but from a person doing the vaccinating.

I know, that’s was awful!
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/12/2020 15:30

Yeah I mean obviously it’s good news they are vaccinating the Chelsea pensioners but he needs to give us something better than that Grin

Oh no, I didn’t mean that! I just meant the way he made it sound like the vaccine had been approved
IcedPurple · 23/12/2020 15:38

As I remember, about a week elapsed between the time the Pfizer vaccine was submitted for approval and the time approval was granted (please correct me if I'm wrong). So if the Oxford data was submitted on Monday, then we're on track for approval next week. Please!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/12/2020 15:44

ChineseChicken - apologies, I didn’t mean you, it was basically what I was feeling!
I was actually hoping for some more vaccine stats from him (mainly to counteract the doom mongers on other threads!)

FuzzyPuffling · 23/12/2020 15:47

Call me horrible, but I really don't care (over and above normal) about Chelsea Pensioners. I want the vaccine now for everyone!

(I thought he was going for O/AZ approval too. Sad face. But DH and I are ok holed up at home and have enough food and loo roll for a while)

I think even if it had been approved they might hold off announcing it until after Christmas so as not to encourage people to let their guard down. Looking very good for approval within the next week though!
TeaInTheGarden · 23/12/2020 15:53

Yes he did look very hopeful- “you’re so tempting” made me lol!
😂😂

FuzzyPuffling · 23/12/2020 15:58

Roughly three weeks from receipt of final data to roll out...so if all goes well that would take us to a fortnight into January. Roughly!

3 weeks? That's too long!

I wonder why 'sources' have been saying approval is expected next week?

GoldenOmber · 23/12/2020 16:01

Anyone heard much about Novavax? I know UK have bought a lot of doses of that and that the Phase 3 trial should be producing results fairly soon, but I don’t know when we’d be in line to start getting the doses if it works and gets approved.

FuzzyPuffling · 23/12/2020 16:10

The three weeks is from receipt of data, not approval, so I'm assuming they approve(if they do) on the 28th/29th.

And hopefully they can pull their fingers out for something so important and have dealt with much of the logistics already.

No but I was also wondering about the Moderna vaccine and when we will review that. We have some on order, don’t we?
FuzzyPuffling · 23/12/2020 16:13

USA has bought all the early runs of Moderna, I believe. I had a feeling we might be due some in late Spring, but don't quote me on that.

Mybrowneyedgal · 23/12/2020 16:13

Is there any indication at what stage the vaccine will start making a difference to the R rate?

It would be helpful to know that when X amount of doses gave been rolled out the rate is likely to fall.

GoldenOmber · 23/12/2020 16:13

7m doses of Moderna but they won’t arrive until ‘spring’ (I don’t think we got anything more specific).

TheChineseChicken · 23/12/2020 16:19

Thanks

No because we don’t yet know the impact it will have on spread. It is expected to make a difference but we don’t know how much.

We have a much clearer idea of how many doses it will take to have an impact on hospitalisations and deaths.
