When is the London announcement due?

Do you think the whole of London will be put into Tier 3?

Will the Christmas relaxation period of 5 days still stand?

Thanks @RedToothBrush that's interesting. I can see this becoming a political storm - but then when isn't it?

MarshaBradyo · 14/12/2020 17:02

Depressing. I know people wanted it, in North, and even in London, but it’s still shit.

Rosehip10 · 14/12/2020 17:11

@JellyBabiesSaveLives The almost joy that SOME posters seem to have about London going into tier 3 is ridiculous.

myhobbyisouting · 14/12/2020 17:13

"I pretty much guarentee that both the niiiiice bit and the bad bit up the road all use the same local hospital"

@RedToothBrush well you're wrong. What's with the niiiice bit? The towns I'm talking about aren't wealthy in any way. In fact they are experiencing some of the most publicised levels of poverty in England in recent years. But the rates are extremely low. People and businesses are desperate.

You guarantee me that someone in Morecambe and Heysham (with cases so minuscule that they don't even include the data) uses the same hospital as someone in Darwen, with 370+ cases? You are wrong.

Further to this, people in those towns have to travel the longest single stretch of motorway in the uk before they meet. They don't shop in the same shops, attend the same schools, or use the same ICU beds crucially.

But it's ok to have had these small, already struggling towns lumped in with their distant neighbours because it's the same council? It's a kick in the teeth to watch them now carve up Essex when our locals livelihoods and health have withered and died after a seriously long and unfair tier 3 and lockdown period.

There's no joy in this for anyone, though.
If the Govt had acted more responsibly and decisively we might have avoided this. It's miserable for Londoners now too :(

myhobbyisouting · 14/12/2020 17:18

And to add to that..the hospital that they do use has a higher bed capacity currently than on the past 2 years comparable data. There is no reason to ignore the people here being plunged further into poverty.

vjg13 · 14/12/2020 17:19

ProfessionalWeirdo it was beginning of September I think. It only lasted for about 2 weeks!

myneighboursarerude · 14/12/2020 17:22

@bendmeoverbackwards

Yes that's true I suppose *@Hardbackwriter* I really feel for London hospitality businesses who will be facing permanent closure Sad
As has been the reality for countless northern businesses. London is not special, they should be locked down as a whole.

We have been in tier three since the tier age was introduced due to us being lumped with the next big city, our reinfection rate is negligible but it’s just the way it is.

Nousernameforme · 14/12/2020 17:26

We are in tier 3 solely because of our hospital provision here in the south west. I am hoping we will be moving down or is it up to tier 2 at the very least.

AcornAutumn · 14/12/2020 17:38

So is her stuff still going ahead? I can guess what it is and am thinking probably not.

The trouble is where the next nearest overflow hospital is. If one hospital is overwhelmed where are people in the badly affected area sent to next? How long does this take? Are there similar problems at other hospitals which would normally take in overflow patients (eg would they normally go to north Manchester hospitals and how are they holding up?) Thats your issue.
MissEllaWater · 14/12/2020 17:45

the northern chip on the shoulder

Oh please.

I lived in London for 15 years. I've lived in the north for roughly the same amount of time. The north gets the shitty end of the stick every. Single. Time.

Butterymuffin · 14/12/2020 17:59

@Rosehip10

This constant sour grapes attitude that "things are shit in Newcastle/Manchester etc etc, hence London should also be in tier 3" is ridiculous - the tiers are NOT simply based on cases per 100k, but on hospital capacity, many large places outside London have 1/2 bigger hospitals, where London has much greater capacity, fair enough if London should be in tier 3, I'm fine with this, but it shouldn't be based on people in "the north" being pissed off Hmm
As if! Johnson would have loved to make an exception for London if he could have, and wouldn't have given a shit what the north had to say about it. It's a sign of how bad the outlook is right now that they've actually gone with Tier 3. I really thought they'd find a way round it.

Yes quite right, I apologise for my poorly thought out comment. I only mentioned London businesses as I had heard some of them talking on the radio, but of course it's terrible for hospitality up and down the country Sad

Still not sure. Dance exams, dance school is waiting to hear from ISTD. Although I've heard reports that sports etc are still allowed in Tier 3....

ritzbiscuits · 14/12/2020 18:11

@bendmeoverbackwards My son has a dance exam on Saturday, in tier 3 (NW) with IDTA. Being filmed and going ahead. Was your exam virtual or face to face?

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/12/2020 18:12

Face to face @ritzbiscuits

OP posts:
bendmeoverbackwards · 14/12/2020 18:13

Do you mean the examiner won't be in the room?

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 14/12/2020 18:13

Dance exams are still allowed in Tier 3 but face to face teaching is only allowed for under 18’s (as of 30th August) & full time accredited colleges.

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/12/2020 18:15

Thank you @Comefromaway so it looks like we're safe!

The new strain of the virus, which will take weeks to investigate, said 6pm news, was a bit of a shock. Not good.

PimlicoJo · 14/12/2020 18:16

I'm a Northerner living in London. At no point has the tier I'm living in been something I could influence or make a decision on. I find the North/South attitude profoundly depressing.

A shock to whom? Viruses mutate.

It does look like some exam boards are only offering remote exams for Tier 3 areas.
Bridget1979 · 14/12/2020 18:23

We are in tier 3 and my daughter did an IDTA exam yesterday. Face to face.
