Covid 19 vaccine vaccination numbers, why won't they tell us?

I've been looking for a few days about the number of people vaccinated in the UK. However, this appears to be some kind of secret.

Does anyone know how many people have been vaccinated and how many vaccinations we have in the UK and what we can expect by mid Jan 2021?

I fear this secrecy means that things are not going to plan and when Matt Hancock said the other day that tens of thousands of people had been vaccinated, it was far from true.

You may recall the figures about Covid 19 tests when we were told x amount of tests were carried out but they failed to declare that everyone had at least two tests and many NHS staff and others in hospital were being tested several times a day therefore 100k tests may have been 20k tests in reality.

I want the jab and so do our children but both are severely allergic so we are praying for others to come on line ASAP.

@MistletoeandGin

Around 11.5 million people in the U.K. are under 16 so that takes a fair few off the list.
Thanks. That leaves 54.5 million x 2 jabs = 109 millions equates to a million a week at just over two years of a million jabs a week.

The only reason they are not saying how many people have had the jab because it is another fiasco.

They will now try to distract from jabs to xmas 5 days when they plan to switch off Covid 19 but then for whatever reason switch it back on.

The Gov is dangerously inept at best.

@notevenat20

I would really love some numbers. They seem not to have vaccinated any care home residents yet for example.

Also numbers for how many doses are actually in the UK. I heard they had 1000 for 8 London boroughs! That sounds like there is a problem getting the right numbers. When is more arriving?

Thank you. It's a top secret as the cock up is worse than the track test and trace.

Thank you. It's a top secret as the cock up is worse than the track test and trace.

It’s really not.

It’s an incredible achievement so far by everyone involved. You’d be better off thinking positively instead of being the bean counter.

GoldenOmber · 15/12/2020 16:13

@notevenat20

Scotland was 18,000 yesterday.

Where can you find the number?

It seems that there is now some pressure on Hancock to add the vaccination numbers to the dashboard but they haven't sorted that out yet.

Nicola Sturgeon announced it in her daily briefing, but from tomorrow (I think?) they’re publishing weekly stats.

How do you know this?

GoldenOmber · 15/12/2020 16:16

The Gov is dangerously inept at best.

They are, but that doesn’t mean that everything ever done by any part of the government and wider public sector (NHS) is doomed and awful. Buying a lot of doses of the Pfizer vaccine looks like it was a good decision for example!

They’re obviously not going to be vaccinating a million people a week now, because we don’t even have a million doses a week now. I’d still like to know how many people they are vaccinating but I’m not going to lurch straight to “it’s probably nobody, SHAMBLES SHAMBLES UTTER SHAMBLES” right now.

TicTacTwo · 15/12/2020 17:03

@MG2020

Thanks. That is another question that can't be answered.

Anyone. Is it a top secret about the numbers vaccinated or are they so low that it will make this messed up government look even worse.

I was expecting 800k people to get their first jab well before Christmas.

I would have thought that 800k of vaccines means maximum of 400k vaccinated but some vaccines being "wasted" so the real number being less.

I would be interested in the numbers too but I wouldn't expect details on when the next vaccines will arrive because it's a security risk.

alreadytaken · 15/12/2020 17:22

vaccinations are taking place all around the country - there will be more tomorrow when more gps start doing community vaccinations. If you think it isnt happening then you are not paying attention or just lying.

It wont be a million this week because there probably isnt enough available yet to do that many vaccinations.

I know 1800 are likely to be done this week or next within 20 miles of my home, there may be more locations I dont know about. Car park at one location was full when I went past.

Lordamighty · 15/12/2020 17:47

Definitely started at my GP surgery, one of my friends is going for hers tonight, she is in the over 80 age group.

Signaturesoftheworkers · 15/12/2020 18:24

OP you need to calm the chuff down.

Go onto the good news vaccination thread or would that just spoil your narrative Hmm

Parker231 · 15/12/2020 18:27

I think it will takes months and months. Every country needs the vaccine so I’m assuming there is a process to ensure there is fair distribution.

Signaturesoftheworkers · 15/12/2020 19:22

My father just been called up for his, it's happening folks!

Gonegrey31 · 15/12/2020 19:50

My mother in Devon is having her first jab on Thursday, second on 7 Jan . Hooray!

I would really love some numbers. They seem not to have vaccinated any care home residents yet for example.

Also numbers for how many doses are actually in the UK. I heard they had 1000 for 8 London boroughs! That sounds like there is a problem getting the right numbers. When is more arriving?

Where did you get that from, just out of interest? I am a vaccinator and have been vaccinating in care homes since the end of last week.
Frazzled2207 · 15/12/2020 20:09

Well, I don’t doubt a lot of vaccinations are happening but

Covid 19 vaccine vaccination numbers, why won't they tell us?
Frazzled2207 · 15/12/2020 20:23

to be fair to the government for 5 seconds though (I am no fan), the numbers won't be very meaningful until people have started to have their 2nd jabs, and the number of people that have had their second jabs is presumably zero.

PuzzledObserver · 15/12/2020 20:24

In terms of how quickly we could vaccinate, assuming we had enough vaccine: I think I read there are 1200 GP practices involved in the rollout, though not all coming on stream immediately. I’ve seen numbers ranging from 350-500 per day at each site, let’s say an average of 400 per day.

So, once all are active, that will be 480,000 jabs per day via the GP sites, plus the hospital hubs, let’s call it half a million per day, or 3.5 million per week, because they are doing 7 days a week. So to vaccinate 50 million people, 100 million jabs.... about 7 months.

The bottle neck here will be availability of vaccines.

But, if Oxford is approved, the notion of “all vulnerable groups vaccinated by Easter and all adults who want it by the end of the summer” is perfectly feasible.

That's awesome news. How does it work in practice? I mean what is the journey from the frozen 975 pack to the arm of the care home resident?

The numbers come from someone who works in public health.

Frazzled2207 · 15/12/2020 20:29

i just hope that if they get the over 80s done relatively quickly, followed by the over 70s, then death rates will hopefully come significantly down in February/March even if the case rates surge

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/12/2020 20:32

Re Frazzled’s quote, it seems entirely plausible to me that while they are doing an excellent job of getting the jabs out, the government might not have enough grip to actually know the numbers.

The MHRA permitted the vaccines to be transported after being defrosted. So the packs are broken down and vials distributed accordingly. It is explained here - www.gov.scot/news/care-home-vaccinations-to-start-this-week/

We are working in teams and travelling to the care home to administer to both patients and staff, eg here - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-55246895

It is a really good news story and it is disheartening to read the op's posts.

DougRossIsTheBoss · 15/12/2020 20:47

That is a really good news story

I've worried a lot about capacity and consent issues in care homes. Do you have a problem with people lacking capacity and resisting being vaccinated?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 15/12/2020 21:05

Thank you. It's a top secret as the cock up is worse than the track test and trace.

It really isn’t. There are 800,000 doses, as explained previously. People are being vaccinated up and down the land. PHE know exactly what has been supplied, but the usage data will follow on afterwards. The government are shit, but it’s the NHS delivering this, led by dedicated, experienced, hard working front line HCPs, not Serco.

jasjas1973 · 15/12/2020 21:10

Huge task and just 800k doses, 3m over 80s and 9m over 70s in the UK.

Until the Oxford vaccine comes on stream, we will struggle to get enough BioNTech vaccine, it isn't made here and the EU has ordered far far more.

sparkle17 · 15/12/2020 21:22

When do we get our next batch of the Pfizer vaccine.
