Covid 19 vaccine vaccination numbers, why won't they tell us?

I've been looking for a few days about the number of people vaccinated in the UK. However, this appears to be some kind of secret.

Does anyone know how many people have been vaccinated and how many vaccinations we have in the UK and what we can expect by mid Jan 2021?

I fear this secrecy means that things are not going to plan and when Matt Hancock said the other day that tens of thousands of people had been vaccinated, it was far from true.

You may recall the figures about Covid 19 tests when we were told x amount of tests were carried out but they failed to declare that everyone had at least two tests and many NHS staff and others in hospital were being tested several times a day therefore 100k tests may have been 20k tests in reality.

I want the jab and so do our children but both are severely allergic so we are praying for others to come on line ASAP.

@sparkle17

When do we get our next batch of the Pfizer vaccine.
would like to know this - originally 10 million were planned before the end of the year but ministers recently said that although it wouldn't be that much it would still be 'several million'. I assume there's a fairly constant supply not just one load of 800k and that's it but would like to know.

@Parker231

What's your take on the article?

It appears the Government (us, the taxpayers) will bear all the risks (financial and healthwise) whilst broadly the pharmaceutical companies will be indemnified but will reap all the benefits (from these vaccines plus the ability to test a new product that will likely be used as a template for other treatments/patents in the future)

A very imbalanced situation (and not just for the UK, many countries are doing the same). I understand the sense of urgency due to the pandemic, but still...

Shouldn't governments have a bigger say in what type of product they want from these companies/negotiate a better deal?

Our Employer (Community Home Care organisation) was offered enough Vaccines for all of us last Friday- there are three centres on site at the local Trust. Easy to register on line. There are hundreds of slots (480 per day) seven days a week.

I had mine yesterday. It was an amazing feeling after the stress and worries of this year. Very short wait. Painless jab and a 15 minute mandatory observation period - booked for 3 weeks time

@WiseUpJanetWeiss

Thank you. It's a top secret as the cock up is worse than the track test and trace.

It really isn’t. There are 800,000 doses, as explained previously. People are being vaccinated up and down the land. PHE know exactly what has been supplied, but the usage data will follow on afterwards. The government are shit, but it’s the NHS delivering this, led by dedicated, experienced, hard working front line HCPs, not Serco.

Agreed. It does seem to be vaccine supply issues that are dictating the pace of roll out?

So keeping my fingers crossed for Oxford/AZ regulatory approval to happen ASAP. I can't see things substantially quickening until then?

DougRossIsTheBoss · 16/12/2020 09:54

Hobbes that's amazing to hear.
Things like that really give me hope.
You and your colleagues will be safe to continue supporting people without the fear of passing on the virus

MistletoeandGin · 16/12/2020 10:07

140,000 so far, according to Nadhim Zahawi

BruceAndNosh · 16/12/2020 10:11

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

If I was them I would only start the updates once people have their second dose. It would send the wrong message out to start now given you’re only fully protected once you have had both. They don’t want people failing to turn up for their second dose.
That's quite reasonable thinking

What do you think is the likely take up of the offer in your organisation? It seems a bit 50/50 amongst home carers from what I have heard.

I do wonder if they armchair experts will start now....

Hmmm- its good question. We are actually part of a much bigger care provider. Within the brand portfolio are a Private Hospital Group, a Nursing Home Group and a number of Home Care brands. Theres a huge debate about next steps for colleagues who decline the vaccine. Currently the message is that its not mandated and all staff continue with full PPE and weekly testing regardless of the vaccine status. But that is likely to shift I suspect.

Among my immediate colleagues its been pretty much totally positive. But we are a relatively small team.

roarfeckingroarr · 16/12/2020 10:44

Because it takes time for data to become available

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 16/12/2020 11:20

Not at present. The pace is dictated by capacity to deliver, store & administer a vaccine with a tricky presentation at scale. What’s been achieved so far is amazing. Clearly once another couple of hundred thousand doses have been administered we’ll be needing more (either AZ/Oxford or more Pfizer/BioNTech) to come on line.

Bathroom12345 · 16/12/2020 12:15

Isnt another 1 million due this week?

alreadytaken · 16/12/2020 13:44

The published figures exclude the gp rollout - 975 being done this week near me and the same number a bit further away, there are supposed to be 100 in total so 975,000 being done there this week. So with hospitals carrying out we'll have used half the 2 million this week.

A care home manager in Kew was vaccinated this week, it's getting to care home staff and residents now.

StCharlotte · 16/12/2020 13:47

One of four vaccination centres in the county has opened up today across the road from me (handy!) and was very busy when I went past just now.

As of last night my 89 year old MIL, who's registered at the neighbouring surgery, hadn't been called. So close and yet so far... It's driving her (and us) mad!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/12/2020 13:48

Someone was on BBC news earlier saying we will get a couple of million doses by the end of the year.

I took that as this year. Meaning end of December.

The said GPs have only started taking delivery of the vaccine in the last couple of days. Therefore the figures should spead up more once they start vaccinations.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/12/2020 13:52

Some great photos emerging of people getting jabs through car windows.

Didn't know they would do drive ins. Fast and stop people worrying about exposure to virus from clinics etc when going for a jab. Wonderful idea.

Healthcare staff already have mandatory immunizations for some clinical locations in the NHS and private sector for example TB and Hep B - so we already accept that there is a degree of mandation. However the issues with allergens and pregnancy really complicate things and we have been assured that there will be no compulsion to have the vaccine- but that it may restrict our assignments.

If as suggested, a covid vaccine card will be needed to travel abroad or access leisure facilities, it will be interesting to see if the take-up increases.
