My 10 days is up on Weds

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 07:09

Symptoms started Sunday, tested Monday, I'm allowed out again on Weds.

I have a haircut appt on Thurs.

As I understand it, provided I no longer have a temp (never did), I can go out again on Thurs, regardless of any lingering symptoms.

So far my main symptoms are a headache and a very runny nose. I did have a slight cough, which is why I tested but that seems to have gone.

So do I go for my haircut on Thurs?

If yes, even if I'm still sneezing?

I would phone and reschedule as I know my hairdresser wouldn't want to take the risk

It's a close contact service

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 12/12/2020 07:30

Please tell your hairdresser what you've told us here, in her shoes I wouldn't want to be near you!
It's her call but she needs to know.

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/12/2020 07:31

Can you reschedule? I dont think it would be fair to go if you're still sneezing (and sneezing in a mask is grim, I'd bet youd want to wipe your face).

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 07:33

Yes, I'd already decided in my own mind not to go if the runny nose hasn't cleared up, but if I'm better, you'd still stay away?

It wouldn't feel right to go to my hairdresser who is in close contact with so many people, and also because you are there for longer than a fleeting visit, it would be prolonged contact in an enclosed space. If you can't have a second test to check whether or not you are still positive, then I'd play it safe until symptoms like sneezes are gone.

Yes, that says I can go?

I wouldn't feel right going to my hairdresser probably, as pp said it's close contact.

To be honest I've been symptom free other than no smell for a week and my isolation ended 2 weeks ago and I still feel uncomfortable going out for some reason!

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 07:47

Presumably a hairdresser in the same situation would be back at work on Weds?

Orchidflower1 · 12/12/2020 07:51

I think it would be morally wrong to still go. So hair dresser does you then three elderly ladies, a pregnant lady and asthmatic directly after you- would you feel comfortable about that?
Is it a regular place you go to?

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 07:54

But I have been advised by the government experts that I'm not contagious by day 10? If they're wrong, when can I go?

The hairdresser in the same situation would be doing all the old ladies, and she's more or less forced to return to work after day 10.

I agree it's morally wrong to go if contagious, but according to all the expert advice I won't be?

I would reschedule, I just don't think I could take the risk for something so close contact that wasn't an emergency, and the hairdressers PPE isn't up to much in my experience (home made face covering sometimes plus a visor). If it was a medical emergency I'd go, but for a hairdressers appt one day after isolation ends I couldn't potentially spoil their Christmas or infect their other clients.

muddledmidget · 12/12/2020 07:56

Other countries have used 2 weeks after your last symptom has cleared as when you're no longer infectious. For a hairdressers appt that's the advice I would use, for general put and about I would follow our govt advice, but not for close, extended non urgent contact

Mistigri · 12/12/2020 07:56

I'd also reschedule if you possibly can. Chances are good that you won't be infectious, but the length of isolation is a numbers game and the risk isn't zero. It wouldn't hurt to wait 14 days for a close contact service.

Yes but it’s only JUST gone to 10 days; which I’m more convinced is for economic reasons than anything else.

I really think you should give it the 14 days and until you’re not snotty/ sneezing.

Unless you look like cousin it then I’m sure you can hang on a little bit.

starfish4 · 12/12/2020 08:19

If you're sneezing, I really wouldn't go. Droplets can still escape from your mask. I wouldn't be comfortable if I had someone around me sneezing.

ChasingRainbows19 · 12/12/2020 08:22

My niece still had symptoms ( more gastric) she was furloughed anyway but stayed home a few more days just to be sure....

I maybe would go for a walk but not sure I’d be that close to a person so soon still with symptoms

nex18 · 12/12/2020 08:23

If you’re well go, if you’re snotty don’t.

nex18 · 12/12/2020 08:24

@Orchidflower1 it hasn’t only just gone to 10 days after a positive test, it’s been like that for months, the recent change is for contacts.

Northernsoullover · 12/12/2020 08:26

Why are you even asking if you have decided that its ok? The way I see it is would you visit an elderly relative on day 10? (11) I wouldn't visit my parents so quickly after covid even though I could so I wouldn't do it to my hairdresser.

Orchidflower1 · 12/12/2020 08:28

@nex18 sorry - I didn’t realise. The chap at my work was told 14 days and a negative test before he came back but maybe that’s just my work.

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 08:28

I haven't decided it's OK at all. It doesn't feel OK, but the guidance is very clear that it is and I am aware that the hairdresser in my position would very likely be at work.

No worries @Orchidflower1 Smile

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/12/2020 08:33

Why not ring the hairdresser and give her the choice?

ChessIsASport · 12/12/2020 08:36

Could you tell your hairdresser and they she can decide whether she is happy to cut your hair?

The majority of people will no longer be infectious after ten days. Unfortunately, this is a general rule and the infection varies in different individuals. A significant minority of people can take weeks to become non-infectious but this isn’t picked up without nose and throat swabs to check. This is why many countries insist on two negative tests before people can come out of isolation.
