My 10 days is up on Weds

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 07:09

Symptoms started Sunday, tested Monday, I'm allowed out again on Weds.

I have a haircut appt on Thurs.

As I understand it, provided I no longer have a temp (never did), I can go out again on Thurs, regardless of any lingering symptoms.

So far my main symptoms are a headache and a very runny nose. I did have a slight cough, which is why I tested but that seems to have gone.

So do I go for my haircut on Thurs?

If yes, even if I'm still sneezing?

Well it's only Saturday so I would probably be thinking about how my symptoms were closer to the time tbh.

Sayitasitis2020 · 12/12/2020 09:07

Would you hug your mum/nan?
That is your answer.

You can’t do that anyway!

I haven't hugged my mum since March, I'm not going to hug the hairdresser either.

The employer may well be happy for her to decline a recently covid positive client. Or perhaps will still take you but move your appointment to the end of the day to minimise potentially spreading it to others as everything can be sterilised and left over night. If the hairdresser had been covid positive perhaps they would have rearranged her clients so she didn't cut anyone's hair who was vulnerable.

There are thousands of possible eventualities but the employer and hairdresser can't make any informed decisions unless you communicate with them.

Lazypuppy · 12/12/2020 09:14

I would go, your 10 days is up and you don't have to self isolate anymore

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 09:16

Just to clarify, I'm "allowed" out on the Weds. The appointment isn't until the end of Thurs. It is the last appointment of the day, as it happens. I will be back at work (school) and planned to go after work.

OP posts:
HallFloor · 12/12/2020 09:16

Should I not go back to work as scheduled?

Honestly, this thread is nuts.

Do you think the guidance about isolating after covid was made up for shits and giggles? Do you think they just stuck their finger in the air and guessed how long people had to stay home for?

The guidance is not “stay at home until mumsnet deems you bon infectious based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever, and when you do go out everyone must treat you as if you’re still infectious”.

This is based on evidence. After ten days the op will not be infectious, even if she has a cough.

RaggieDolls · 12/12/2020 09:21

Given your isolation period has ended I would go unless you're too snotty. I had to cancel an appointment earlier in the year after testing negative because I couldn't have comfortably worn a mask with a really runny nose and sneezes.

RaggieDolls · 12/12/2020 09:23

Totally agree @PurpleDaisies. The OP has already said she will be required to return to work on Wednesday, if she was a child she'd be back in school etc. If government scientific advisers deem that an appropriate risk then having a haircut at the end of Thursday is fine.

ShalomToYouJackie · 12/12/2020 09:30

@purpledaisies OK, apart from your comment and one other poster saying to go, all other comments (apart from those 2) say they either wouldn't go or to ask the hairdresser. Both of which OP is making excuses for.

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 09:32

I'm not making excuses, I'm trying to understand why, having followed all guidance, I shouldn't follow this?

Interesting to note no one thinks a teacher should delay going back to work, but she shouldn't have a haircut Grin

Then do what you want but why bother making a thread asking for people's advice if you won't listen? I'd ring the hairdresser and ask what she wants to do as you don't want to leave it til last minute if you still have symptoms and need to cancel.

I'd rebook it now to be on the safe side.

You are still miscounting. I wonder if you’re just reading what you want to read.

It’s irrelevant anyway. The op needs to follow the rules which say she is fine to go.

I wonder how many of the people laying into the op for not isolating until she dies of old age have been on other threads telling those posters they have to follow the rules.

What makes you think I'm not listening? I thought it was a discussion.

So just to be clear the conclusion is that I should work in school Weds and Thurs but I should cancel the haircut on Thursday evening?

MistletoeandGin · 12/12/2020 09:42

Other countries have used 2 weeks after your last symptom has cleared as when you're no longer infectious

Which other countries?
That would have been around 7 months isolation for me.

midnightstar66 · 12/12/2020 09:45

The guidance mentions sneezing and runny nose as a reason to isolate a little longer with a positive test. With a cough or loss of taste/smell that's expected to go on longer so no need to isolate. I'd cancel the appointment as it could be devastating for the hairdresser to catch covid now and ruin her busy run up to Xmas and perhaps her own Xmas plans

midnightstar66 · 12/12/2020 09:48

Clearly states runny nose/sneezing as a reason to continue isolating when you click on the further details of when to isolate part

Yes, I've said I won't go if I'm still sneezing.
OP posts:
midnightstar66 · 12/12/2020 09:52

Your op asked 'if yes, even if you were still sneezing'?! But no with one day after being out and the hair appointment being both unnecessary and potentially extremely damaging, no I wouldn't go anyway.

StCharlotte · 12/12/2020 10:10

I'm self-isolating as a close (work) contact tested positive and my 14 days finishes next Friday. I've had a negative test and have no symptoms. I've still cancelled next Saturday's hair cut. I'm sure it would be fine but it just didn't sit right.

Also we are expecting to go into Tier 3 where I live - could that be an issue?

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 10:13

Yes ,we're expecting to go into tier 3 too, although I think haircits are still allowed?

Unless of course that changes. So it feels like it might be Thurs or never. Which I can live with, but there's also the dilemma of supporting businesses.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 12/12/2020 10:14

Hairdressers are still open in tier 3.

Lazypuppy · 12/12/2020 10:16

Haircuts are still allowed in tier 3
