My 10 days is up on Weds

Symptoms started Sunday, tested Monday, I'm allowed out again on Weds.

I have a haircut appt on Thurs.

As I understand it, provided I no longer have a temp (never did), I can go out again on Thurs, regardless of any lingering symptoms.

So far my main symptoms are a headache and a very runny nose. I did have a slight cough, which is why I tested but that seems to have gone.

So do I go for my haircut on Thurs?

If yes, even if I'm still sneezing?

I'm in the same boat OP with my daughters, one has a positive test and the other isolating, the 10 days is up on Weds and they both have hair appointments late Friday. Given the area we are in the daughter who is just isolating will be able to have a test next week anyway. They would both be back at school on Thursday if it wasn't closing early for Christmas so I am still in two minds. If they are both well with no symptoms they will probably go, but I'll make a call next week. I already cancelled my own appointment this week due to isolating.

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 10:29

DH is waiting on a test result although highly likely from his symptoms he has it too.

His isolation, if he's positive, is due to end on 18th. He was was supposed to have therapy on his back on 16th, which was cancelled. He's in a lot of pain and needs the appointment so it's been moved to 19th. The paractioner knows why the original appointment was cancelled. Presumably that meets MN approval?

Well it will depend on his symptoms, wont it? Same as for you.

Apparently not, seeing as I've been told I shouldn't go regardless of symptoms.

Tbh OP I don't know why you are looking for Mumsnet approval for a hairdresser appointment that you can go to after isolating if you are well - nobody knows whether you will be well on Thursday, it's only bloody Saturday. I have to say though the same applies to your DH, if he is ok then by all means the appointment is fine, if he is still unwell however then he too can not go.

You don't need approval from Mumsnet though, you just need to make your own decision, based on your symptoms, nearer the time.

I haven't hugged my mum since March, I'm not going to hug the hairdresser either.

@HallFloor, I didn't mean literally, I meant as a form of self assessment. Although from your replies I get the impression that you have made up your mind so not sure why you are asking.

I haven't made my mind up at all, but this is where it's so difficult to make a reasoned decision. Symptoms/positive test or not, I'm not allowed to see, let alone hug my mum atm, but I am allowed to get my haircut, after the isolation period.

I.e. if hugging my mum was the vehicle for self assessment I wouldn't go to the hairdresser at all.

If you feel well and you’re past the isolation period then I’d go. It’s 10 days not 11 for a reason (and in fact used to be 7)

MadameBlobby · 12/12/2020 12:35

Hmm I’m not sure it’s the right thing to be in close contact with someone so soon after the isolation ends. Different just popping to a shop

MadameBlobby · 12/12/2020 12:38

I also don’t know why you are being so snarky. You asked for opinions and got them. But ultimately if there is no obligation to continue to isolate you don’t have to

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 12:43

I think you're seeing something that's not there if you think I'm being snarky. I have plenty of time on my hands and am discussing. It doesn't matter much to me what the answer is.

Although it is interesting that no one thinks I won't be fit to be in class Grin

In the first few days after my isolation I done the things I HAD to, work for me would be something I HAD to do, because my employers wouldn't give me more time off without a sick note and I wouldn't get a sick note without still being sick. Going to the hairdressers is something you want to do not have to.

If you feel fine and have no symptoms then go if you want to, I personally wouldn't want to be that close contact with someone if I didn't have to, but everyone feels differently.

They might think you shouldn’t be in class if you are going to be standing behind one child non-stop for an hour playing with her hair.
nex18 · 12/12/2020 14:42

Op, I think you should follow the government guidelines, no more, no less. So if you’re well, go to work, if you’re not don’t. If you’re well go to the hairdressers, if you’re not don’t. Don’t hug your mum unless she’s in your bubble. And if you’re going to stand behind one pupil stroking her hair for an hour, I don’t think teaching is the profession for you Shock

Myshinynewname · 12/12/2020 15:30

If you've finished your 10 days of isolation and not had a raised temperature for 48 hours then you are allowed to go OP. It would be considerate to let the hairdresser know I suppose but you are definitely allowed.

MoirasRoses · 12/12/2020 15:56

I’m exactly the same as you OP. Symptoms Sunday although my symptoms were a cold & a headache. I only tested on Tuesday because the Zoe app told told me too! I was so surprised it was positive. So I’m free on Wednesday, haircut on Friday. I’m still feeling under the weather right now. It’s odd, I feel like I have a really bad cold except I’m not snotty. I just feel really rubbish, my eyes hurt, sinus hurt, head hurts & my throat hurts. Bit congested.

I will be going to the hairdressers on Friday so long as I feel well enough. For the very reason my hairdresser said - when she had it, she was back at work after 10 days despite still feeling slightly poorly as that’s the rules. She said she wouldn’t expect her clients to cancel so long as they had been free of fever for 48 hours (as is the rules). T&T told me I could resume normal life after 10 day’s if I still had a cough, loss of smell or taste or feeling a bit rough. As these symptoms can drag on but it doesn’t mean you remain infectious. However a fever is a sign of infection, so you need to be clear of one for 48 hours.

Just follow the rules. It’s highly unlikely you are still contagious after 10 days even if still sneezing. It’s just a side effect of lingering symptoms the virus has caused.

Why would you start a thread inviting opinions on whether you should do something totally legal, when it doesn’t matter to you what the answer is? Genuinely, what’s the point?
