My 10 days is up on Weds

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 07:09

Symptoms started Sunday, tested Monday, I'm allowed out again on Weds.

I have a haircut appt on Thurs.

As I understand it, provided I no longer have a temp (never did), I can go out again on Thurs, regardless of any lingering symptoms.

So far my main symptoms are a headache and a very runny nose. I did have a slight cough, which is why I tested but that seems to have gone.

So do I go for my haircut on Thurs?

If yes, even if I'm still sneezing?

@Porcupineinwaiting

Why not ring the hairdresser and give her the choice?
I agree with this Smile
NoGoodPunsLeft · 12/12/2020 08:42

I'd ask your hairdresser too, let her decide

Thirtyrock39 · 12/12/2020 08:42

You can still show as positive for weeks after having COVID so testing is pointless. What could happen though is you could still be an infection risk especially if still have some symptoms- especially a temp. I think I'd avoid anything not essential for 14 days to be in the safe side. Yes the hairdresser might be back at work after 10 days but it's a bigger deal for her not to go to work than for a customer to go for a haircut.

FlyingFlamingo · 12/12/2020 08:43

I think you’ve miscounted your days, you are allowed out after the 10th day. My symptoms started on Friday 4th and TTP have calculated that I can go out on Tuesday so for you that would be Thursday. And I’m nervous about that! I only intend to go out for walks in quiet places for the first few days, I certainly won’t be going to a hairdressers or anywhere else that is indoors.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 12/12/2020 08:43

Also I understand your point if it was the other way round she'd be at work after 10 days but presumably she would be working because she needed the income whereas you don't need to her get your hair cut on Thursday, you could wait another week/2 weeks/whenever due next has a slot

PurpleDaisies · 12/12/2020 08:45

Follow the rules as they are, not other people’s made up versions of them.

I’d go.

HallFloor · 12/12/2020 08:47

If I ring the hairdresser now, I dont know what to tell her. ATM I have, effectively, a heavy cold, so I wouldn't expect her to want me and I wouldn't want to go.

I wont know what my symptoms are until the morning and that feels too late to cancel.

Plus, if I ring, it will be the receptionist not the hairdesser.

Excuses, excuses OP . You ring her, tell her you've got COVID, when your isolation is up and ask of she's happy to see you Thursday. If you like you can tell her about the cold symptoms and maybe agree that you can cancel closer to the time.

What are you going to do when you're sat coughing and snottering in her chair and she jokes about hoping it's not COVID? Say "well actually it is"?

PurpleDaisies · 12/12/2020 08:54

She just needs to say she had it but has completed the isolation period as mandated by the nhs.

Ridiculous that so many posters think they know better.

I've already said I don't have a cough and I won't go if the runny nose hasn't stopped.

Putting the onus on her to decline a customer on behalf of her employer doesn't seem fair to me.

When I went to my hairdresser, I was given a form asking if I'd cared for, vor been in contact with anybody who'd had Covid in the last two weeks.

Pinotwoman82 · 12/12/2020 08:58

My god no wonder this country is in the state it’s in. Just reschedule for the week aftef

Mousehole10 · 12/12/2020 08:58

Phone them now, tell them you’ve got covid and your 10 days are up on Wednesday. Say you’ll stay away if you still have symptoms but if not are they ok with you coming in Thursday. You really need to give them the choice it’s so unfair if you don’t.

PurpleDaisies · 12/12/2020 08:58

Because people follow the rules? Not mumsnetters made up ones?

This period has been changed to ten days on the basis of the latest scientific evidence. Those forms should change too.
Dotinthecity · 12/12/2020 09:00

I'd have my haircut.

megletthesecond · 12/12/2020 09:01

No, I wouldn't.

YukoandHiro · 12/12/2020 09:03

It's not really just can you go, but should you go. It's not an essential thing and it's close contact - I wouldn't want to put anyone at risk

NoSquirrels · 12/12/2020 09:04

What do you want from this thread, OP? Genuine question.

Legally you can go to the appointment.
Morally a lot of people are saying they’d reschedule if they were you.

Pick which of those you’re most happy with.

ShalomToYouJackie · 12/12/2020 09:04

Every post here is telling you they'd cancel. Why make this thread if you're not going to listen to the advice?

Pinotwoman82 · 12/12/2020 09:04

It’s not like a quick dash to Tesco’s you will be sitting there for a prolonged period of time. If I was the hairdresser I would ask if you could rearrange. I would be really nervous if I was them doing your hair knowing you were on your first day out of quarantine

Fizbosshoes · 12/12/2020 09:04

Other countries have used 2 weeks after your last symptom has cleared as when you're no longer infectious. For a hairdressers appt that's the advice I would use, for general put and about I would follow our govt advice, but not for close, extended non urgent contact*

Wow that would be a long isolation especially if symptoms were mild. People might not be able to work for nearly a month (if they were unable to wfh)
Wrt the OP I think I would try to defer the appointment to be on the safe side although that might be difficult this near to christmas.

Frazzledbutcalm · 12/12/2020 09:04

Absolutely agree you’re just making excuses OP.

If I ring the hairdresser now, I dont know what to tell her. ATM I have, effectively, a heavy cold, so I wouldn't expect her to want me and I wouldn't want to go ..... NO you don’t OP ... YOU HAVE COVID!

FFS .... stop making excuses and stop twisting things around. Think of others and not just about yourself and a bloody haircut - it’s not the end of the world if you have to postpone ... however it might be the end of the world to those you might infect. Literally.

No they aren’t.

Read the thread properly.
