Why do people seem so certain that restrictions will go on and on

Once we've got all the over 80s vaccinated, surely the death rate will be so low that there could be no possible justification to continue with the restrictions?

Yes, I know some unfortunate people will still suffer but the vast majority of deaths have been in the over 80s. There have and always will be viruses that are dangerous to some, we don't close everything down.

@MrsFezziwig

The government is loving the control and restrictions

How do you know this? Have they discussed it with you and admitted this?

Honestly your arguments would be much more persuasive if you didn’t come out with vague nonsense like this.

In fairness, It would be rude to share the correspondence I’ve had with my local MP!

Do you not find it odd that T&T was separated from the NHS? I appreciate that growing up as I did, I might see things differently than others - but I thought everyone would find it weird that their GP is not even slightly linked to the process.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/12/2020 23:55

@Pasithea

My gp told me this morning that it would take at least 8 months to vaccinate everyone on their lists.
Your GP

Oh well then, let's stop listening to the people who are actually organising it & listen to one GP.

🙄🙄

Because people just LOVE to preset their opinions as facts. Mainly due to being full of their own self importance.
Truth is, nobody knows for definite.

My OPINION is that restrictions won’t go on and on for years.

@HallFloor

Some people suffer from long term post viral effects for many of the viruses that we do let circulate freely.

ICUs aren't full of young people without underlying conditions, they're really not.

They’re also not full of 80+ year olds.

Out of the 2 people I’ve known personally who died one was in his 60s, ok he was diabetic but well controlled. The other was in his early 50s, no health conditions, not overweight, not BAME. So no risk factors.

I have several friends and colleagues with long covid.

This is just me personal experience after 9 months of this virus been around. In 40 odd years of being alive I have no personal knowledge of anyone who has died from flu or pneumonia or had long term effects from such illnesses. Obviously people do die from these but nobody I know.....so yes, my personal risk assessment is that covid is more of a risk.

OpheliasCrayon · 13/12/2020 08:40

I'm certain because you can't just vaccinate everyone who needs to be just like that. For one...the number of vaccines they need to use for the vulnerable (myself included but I can't have it - allergies and I don't care either way ) don't actually exist as yet. People need two doses.

It's not just a ...yay we have the vaccine were done.

You need a HUGE amount of take up for herd immunity and that's going to be an insanely difficult challenge to achieve.... If enough people even agree or can have it. ...

This can't just end and all restrictions go because people wish they would unfortunately. We have to wait and we will be waiting quite a while

RayOfSunshine2013

Because we were told in march that this would be a two week lockdown. Then it would all be good when there was a vaccination. Now theres a vaccination but even the vaccinated still need to wear a mask

This is nothing to do with a virus anymore’

Maybe it’s to do with 5G and those microchips?😱

What - you wrote to your MP and he replied that the government were loving the control and restrictions? Confused

And as I’ve got no idea what “growing up differently” means - although I’m presuming it makes you special and able to see things that mere mortals can’t - I can’t make any sense of your second paragraph. All you’re doing is spouting platitudes and not explaining yourself at all.

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

They wont let us go to a restaurant and be seated but allow us to go to non essential shops

Eating in an indoor restaurant is a moderate-high risk activity wrt to Covid. Shopping is a much lower risk activity, depending on where you are shopping. It makes perfect sense that one would be allowed and the other restricted.

What makes less sense is people thinking that eating inside in a public place can be made safe. It can be made safer, but it’s still risky. IIRC the woman who caught it in a restaurant in S Korea was in the restaurant with the infected person for less than 5mins and they didn’t get anywhere near each other.

Sorry are shops not inside too?

I'm not saying sitting in a restaurant is 100% safe but how are shops where people are inside lengths at a time, brushing past each other, browsing, iids running everywhere, picking up items, looking at them then putting them down etc any less risk than being at a restaurant?

None whatsoever

Mrs Fezz. Laughing at what you said to Acorn!

As if an MP would state they loved the restrictions and control!

Yes, obvs on the MP /sarcasm off.

No seriously, if you have regular contact with anyone in Parliament, you know what they’re saying even if they dont spell it out.

Sorry, I thought you’d have seen my previous posts. I grew up with my dad specialising in infectious diseases. He kept up with all the knowledge and developments till he died and I’ve not ever come across any of this as infection control.

I forget where I’ve posted but I’ve done a list of infection control measures that are conspicuously absent from what’s been done in England at least. Still, I suspect you’ve got a way you want to picture me and anything I post won’t change your mind.

AcornAutumn · 13/12/2020 22:32

Just looked back

Posted about infection control at 21:15 last night

Not sure what I’ve said that is a “platitude”.

I won’t post again because one of dad’s best bits of life advice was “let the dogs bark”.
