Anyone think there will be a 3rd lockdown Jan ?

Not that I want one, I think the whole thing is a massive overreaction, but I suspect there may be if cases continue to rise.

I know there will be people on here who 'know 10 people who died' or 'know how many beds their hospital has left'.

It is indeed a risk to very elderly and very vulnerable folk and I hope they receive a vaccination asap and to be able to resume normal life.

But part of me still thinks figures are manipulated and that there are a lot of false positive and asymptomatic cases.

Now once again cases are suddenly rising to fit in with the '3rd lockdown' narrative, because 'selfish idiots' went out to Primark.

I am really sorry to those who have lost family and friends due to this virus. I think like many people I am tired of the whole charade of lockdowns.

I’m not sure actually. I think that there may be a case for one but not sure it would get through Parliament. There was quite a big backlash to get the tiers through this time, there would be even more opposition to another lockdown.

Xtfc123 · 07/12/2020 19:57

I know people are stressed and worried but i'm sick of all the shaming going on. It's become almost a sort of competition 'I haven't left the house or seen anybody since March' and screamed at if you have dared to have any semblance of a normal life.

They will probably suddenly announce one for 2 days later like they did last month. Don't believe a word they say anymore.

Not a national lockdown but I believe the majority will go into tier 3 to calm it all down over Xmas period

Heartlantern2 · 07/12/2020 20:00

After the Xmas period that should say

User158340 · 07/12/2020 20:03

I think it'll be everyone into what is now tier 3.

wondersun · 07/12/2020 23:49

I think they’ll have to be. Even the highest tier involves non essential shops open. Not sure how we can survive the five day Christmas followed by sales shopping???
The government really don’t want though so who knows. It will only happen if the nhs is at risk of being overrun.

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/12/2020 23:54

Lockdowns have crippled the economy. At the risk of inciting conspiracy nonsense, what do you suspect the government has to gain from lying about the figures to stop you from having a semblance of a normal life?

Quaagars · 08/12/2020 00:05

I'm just taking it as it comes, I personally don't see the point in worrying whether there will be another one or not (agree that comes from a certain amount of privilege to be able to say that)
Hopefully there won't be, but if the there is it should be a proper one like back in March and not all this ridiculous tier system.

kaleishorrid · 08/12/2020 00:19

Yes i do. I think allowing three households to bubble will result in people pushing at the boundaries - I think it's human nature. I think this will lead to higher infection rates.

That said I am not a conspiracy theorist nor a fan of lockdowns. Just looking back at what the govt has done in the past I think this is what will happen.

kittensarecute · 08/12/2020 00:20

No! No more lockdowns. Let us get back to normal, its been long enough and we need to live our lives again.

Quaagars · 08/12/2020 00:27

@kittensarecute

No! No more lockdowns. Let us get back to normal, its been long enough

I do tend to agree with this though - I mean, we can't keep hiding from the virus forever.
Forever creeping out of lockdown, rates going up as a result, retreating back again - it's not sustainable and people need to get on with life as well.

sally067 · 08/12/2020 00:27

America are seeing quite a big jump in cases following Thanksgiving. I suspect Christmas will do us no favours unfortunately.

Bikingbear · 08/12/2020 00:27

Probably, but they need to really push the message that Christmas is one bubble three households, like a triangle.
Not seeing one household on Christmas Eve, a single person bubble on Christmas Day and a second household on Boxing day. When those other households are seeing other people on Christmas day.

MercyBooth · 08/12/2020 01:19

Good luck with compliance for that now that a couple of Sky journalists have broken tier 2 rules.

SomewhereEast · 08/12/2020 10:50

I'm not sure Boris will get a third lockdown past his own MPs, especially not as early as January. Even the ones who knuckled under and voted for Lockdown 2 were obviously grumpy about it. And compliance will keep waning. Also if we're going to keep resorting to lockdowns like this, where does it end? Lockdown 4 in March? I wish some people would accept that both the money and the compliance underpinning all this are finite resources and need husbanding.

TragedyHands · 08/12/2020 11:05

Could we be much more locked down?

Delatron · 08/12/2020 11:33

I think the whole country will be in tier 3. So you can go to the shops/ kids to school and that’s it.

DirtyDancing · 08/12/2020 11:54

I work close to the policy situation in NHS. Winter pressure hasn’t hit yet. Yes, come Jan very high possibility R rate will prompt another lockdown in order to stop hospitals becoming overwhelmed

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 08/12/2020 11:58

It'll end up being everyone in tier 3.
I don't know how the Government expect anyone to take another Lock down seriously when they have relaxed everything for Christmas. Bloody ridiculous idea which has made a mockery of the sacrifices people have made imo.

JovialNickname · 08/12/2020 12:01

I know this isn't really a light hearted thread. But just for fun:

Q. Why did the pirates have to go into lockdown?
A. Because the Arrrrrrr rate was rising

madcatladyforever · 08/12/2020 12:04

There will continue to be lockdowns until we've all been vaccinated because it seems having a normal Christmas is more important than being alive and not giving covid to your mum and dad.

Xtfc123 · 08/12/2020 12:06

Wish people wouldn't assume that Covid is an automatic death sentence for elderly and vulnerable people.
All this talk of 'giving Covid to your family and killing them.'
The majority of elderly and vulnerable people survive.

This is true @Xtfc123
And also my experience of it. However I know others have had other experiences. You can’t argue with the actual statistics though.
