Why are people so inconsiderate and stupid

I’m sorry, but just because we have masks doesn’t negate the need to keep socially distanced. 2 metres is the rule.

Today, I had a woman in M&S stand right next to me in the queue for 10 minutes. About 2 feet away. I got so annoyed I had to say to her would she mind moving over (was said politely) which was met with a blank look and no apology. She only stood next to me to bunk the queue for the food hall because she clearly couldn’t be bothered queuing like everyone else.

Children in Tesco running around. Standing right next to me and parents making no effort to call them back. Same for adults, absolutely no idea of what’s going on around them (too focused on what’s on the shelves) I have done my best with home deliveries but there’s is no slots for my area in the next week.

Walking in the park with the dog, I sit on a bench with my earphones in for 5 minutes. A woman walks over and decides to pet the dog then calls her daughter over to also pet the dog. I take my earphones out and said to her that I have vulnerable family members at home, would you mind not touching the dog with your hands in case you are transmitting anything onto his fur. She replied “Im going to sanitise my hands after touching him,” NO - that is not the point! How does that protect me or my family. You potential Covid carrier you Angry

Why are people so inconsiderate. Just keep your distance away from everyone else as much as you can. Do not get close to people in aisles where it can be avoided and pay attention to how close you’re getting to someone else.

Just because you’re wearing a mask doesn’t mean you can’t still transmit the virus. Doesn’t mean you can get as close as you want to me. I have been fairly placid up until now but I am fed up. From now on the gloves are off.

I avoid weekends if possible luckily I'm flexi furloughed so any shopping I can usually do on my non working day .
But I agree I get really irritated about the social distancing the fact that people take the whole family round the shops etc .
Just carry on and ignore what others are doing I've learnt not to get annoyed at others as I'd just be permanently pissed off .

mouldygrapes · 06/12/2020 22:31

This is one of the rare things I’ve seen on Facebook that’s not a pile of shit. About sums it up for me

Why are people so inconsiderate and stupid
amicissimma · 06/12/2020 22:32

I think a lot of people, specially those who have no choice but to shop at busy times, have noticed that although they've been within a foot or two of people for about 5-10 seconds repeatedly since March, they haven't caught Covid.

thelegohooverer · 06/12/2020 22:34

I think a lot of people can only assess the risk to themselves and fail to grasp that they also present a risk to other people. So if you don’t look plague ridden, they don’t think twice about getting in your space.

I find shopping very stressful. I shop at quiet times but still have people reaching past me, etc. I don’t want to take up delivery slots unnecessarily but I’ve yet to manage a socially distanced supermarket trip.

opalescent · 06/12/2020 22:40

Feels like there's a bit of martyrdom around.

I think, as with literally everything else in life- there is a spectrum of how people will feel about covid and respond to the risks. Because we're not robots.

Not everyone is as worried about covid as the OP. There are a plethora of reasons as to why that may be.
The dialogue seems to be that anyone who isn't anxiously socially distancing, and aggressively avoiding all other 'covid-carriers' is a bit dim- or selfish.
It's unfair, and untrue.

Nymeriastark1 · 06/12/2020 22:43

Did you actually say 'you potential Covid carrier you'?

missmouse101 · 06/12/2020 22:44

I agree op. Yanbu. I can't deal with it at all. I avoid people/places as much as possible.

youcanthandlethetruth · 06/12/2020 22:45

There’s a lot of people who agree with wanting the distance

Maybe all those arguing against it could take into consideration those of us who want our space

Great quote there @mouldygrapes!

MrsMomoa · 06/12/2020 23:36

Isn't it 'where possible'?
Sometimes it may not be possible.

P.S. Covid doesn't automatically stop at the 2 metre mark.

HeddaGarbled · 06/12/2020 23:36

I sometimes think I must live in a parallel universe because I rarely see any of the stuff that people froth about on here. The occasional person who forgets, maybe, but nothing like what you describe. Perhaps I live somewhere where the populace are more sensible. Or perhaps you exaggerate for the sake of a frothathon?

I’m a big fan of space

The woman who was 2ft away from you, in normal times, I’d say “er, hello? You’re in my space”.

But your OP suggests you just see walking viruses. You should stay home.

AcornAutumn · 06/12/2020 23:37

Oh, and what does “the gloves are off” mean?

OhamIreally · 06/12/2020 23:40

Owness Confused

Hellin301 · 07/12/2020 00:30

I do agree

The 2 metre rule is there for a reason!

Yes it’s not always possible to keep to it. But everyone should respect other people’s space.

You don’t know what circumstances someone else is dealing with

MagicoRomantico · 07/12/2020 00:34

Mum, dad and two kids in the supermarket on a Saturday does my head in. In the middle of a flamin pandemic. Surely just one adult could come on his or her own 🤔

ceeveebee · 07/12/2020 00:38

I do unashamedly bellow “2 metres” at people in shops and other queues
There is definitely a growing complacency round here. My DD was invited to a play date yesterday and a party today (at a house, with 4 other girls plus parents) which I of course said no to but it’s really quite frustrating when most people are trying very hard. We are in a tier 3 area as well!!

MrsEricBana · 07/12/2020 00:42

I agree with you about the dog thing OP. Of course if someone has covid on their hands, the dog owner or the dog stroker, it could then potentially get onto the dog's fur and transferred. Even if there isn't much risk from the actual stroking, people loom up to close to stroke dogs and are then very close to the person holding the lead. As for a PP describing anyone wishing to social distance as exhibiting "covid hysteria" 🙄🙄🙄

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 07/12/2020 00:46

Why are you going out to so many places @youcanthandlethetruth if you have vulnerable family members at home? It's on you to account for the risks going out, and quite frankly sick of hearing people complain about Covid.

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 07/12/2020 00:50

@Happymum12345

I hope you’re not a teacher like many of us-there’s no such thing as social distancing! I know exactly what you mean, it makes me annoyed that people just don’t seem to care or be that bothered about others enough to keep their distance.
Sick of teachers moaning, your nice pay rise or bribe back in September got you all back to work
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 07/12/2020 00:54

It's basically impossible to stay 2 meters from people in shops now. One way systems are fucking pointless as far as I'm concerned and have been since the beginning.
People are reverting back to normal behaviours because its the natural thing to do.

Hellin301 · 07/12/2020 00:56

Also, if there is little risk in catching Covid when out shopping then by that logic if I test positive I should be fine going shopping

No one will catch it apparently. I don’t need to
Isolate

Hellin301 · 07/12/2020 00:59

Also the OP has clearly said she is walking her dog. Dogs still need walked. She has also said she couldn’t get a home delivery slot. The lack of compassion here is amazing.
It’s thanks to people not keeping by the rules that has led us into this bloody mess

HeddaGarbled · 07/12/2020 01:08

It’s thanks to people not keeping by the rules that has led us into this bloody mess

This is so not true, I don’t know where to start with it.

Userzzz · 07/12/2020 01:09

I know this may shock you, but there are a lot of people out there that do not want to change their way of life for a virus with over a 99% recovery rate. I think you are inconsiderate and stupid for thinking that everyone else needs to conform to this new way of life so you feel “ safe” !
