How long is it taking on average to receive covid test results now? Is it regional? (We are in south east - hampshire)

Berkshire - took 36 hours.

zaffa · 04/12/2020 19:10

Thanks - was that recently? Also - did you get the results first thing in the morning?

Just over 50 hours in NE London (drive-through) this week. It was negative, though I assume it doesn’t make a difference.

zaffa · 04/12/2020 19:55

Thanks! Again, what sort of time did you get them? (We've had four previous tests as a family and results always in the morning so wondering if that's a thing )

I was tested at midday on Weds and got the results at 2pm today. Text and email at the same time.

ScottishStottie · 04/12/2020 19:56

Mine was just under 24 hours.

Went about 10am one day, had the results through at around 7am the next morning.

zaffa · 04/12/2020 19:56

There goes my theory! Thanks

Hope you’re not waiting too long! I was getting frustrated this morning..

zaffa · 04/12/2020 20:03

We tested my daughter yesterday (she's just turned one this week) and I'm keen for the results as I'm sure she's negative (doctor sent us for a test because she had a slight fever - I'm fairly certain it's an ear infection and wanted them to take a look but need a negative test first - or I suppose to go to A and E) and my poor DSS can't come over until we have a negative result so it's all up in the air.
Really hoping it is negative or I'll have far more to be worried about than just that - but she's on the mend and temps been back to normal for over 24 hours now so fingers crossed it was just her ear playing up after a four week cold.

zaffa · 04/12/2020 20:33

Thanks everyone! Quite a range but doesn't look like anyone has gone past three days which is handy as that will take us to the end of the weekend at the latest

Last week had the test at a walk in centre at about 11am and had the result back just after 9am the next day

MirandaWest · 04/12/2020 20:37

Am in York

vintagenurse · 04/12/2020 20:38

Essex here, just got my sons back today, almost exactly 24 hours from test

AhBorisSTFU · 04/12/2020 20:51

I think it depends on testing centre. I was tested at the start of September at the Etihad Stadium and was results in after 17 hours. I was tested closer to my home in our local council car park (Within Greater Manchester) and so far it has been 32 hours.

I wondered if they have to have so many tests before they’re collected and processed or if it was a timed collection? That might explain some of the variations.

That's quite an interesting theory - but I imagine regardless they must have to do one final drop at the end of the night or the swabs would hang about too long?

@zaffa my colleague waited so long his ten days isolation had expired! They said they thought they had lost it!!!

fandangofandango · 05/12/2020 14:11

Do results get sent throughout the day? We had a test yesterday morning & desperate to get results back so wondered if they only get sent out in the morning for example?

zaffa · 05/12/2020 14:38

I wondered that but seems it's throughout the day. Got ours at 11ish last night
