Headache a sign?

mistermagpie · 02/12/2020 19:17

My DS has Covid so we are currently isolating anyway, I've developed a banging headache today but no other symptoms. In my area you can only get a test if you have one of the three main symptoms.

Has anyone had a headache as a symptom and tested positive?

3 people i know who tested positive all complained about headaches/head cold feeling to start.. the rest of the symptoms came after.

ScottishStottie · 02/12/2020 19:52

My main symptoms were headache and sore throat. Developed a cough for maybe half a day which prompted the test but but that cleared up the same afternoon. Headache and sore throat were then joined by extreme tiredness and i slept pretty much solid for about 4 days. Never really had any of the 'normal' symptoms.

Poachedeggs1 · 02/12/2020 20:14

Yes! This is how all of my family’s symptoms started. Sore head, feeling a bit achey and a bit of a sore throat. All positive. None of us ever presented with a fever or a cough at all! Main symptoms for us were sore head that painkillers wouldn’t shift, sore bones, sore back and legs, burning eyes and extremely tired. On day 4/5 myself and my dh lost our taste/smell. My ds (13) also had an upset stomach. My dd (9) was asymptomatic and bouncing around as normal. We assume she picked it up from her teacher who tested positive & passed it to us unkowingly because she had no symptoms.

Purpler5 · 02/12/2020 20:17

I would personally get a test - say you have one of the main symptoms if you need to

mistermagpie · 02/12/2020 20:22

Burning eyes? That's weird. My contact lenses have been bothering me this week (I've worn them for nearly 25 years and this is unusual) but I just thought I was tired. DS didn't have any of the classic symptoms either, but he had others and had been in contact with a positive case so we just said he had. To be fair he's 3 and he didn't really understand the thing about losing your sense of smell/taste!

I would definitely go for a test mistermagpie. My eyes were very uncomfortable. My son and husband tested first and when they came back positive we were advised by track and trace to all get tested. We had a large spike within our village and the local junior school. It started in the nursery class and most of the children were asymptomatic so unfortunately it spread like wildfire and almost all the years were off completely, either self isolating or having tested positive.

Out of all the people I know who have had it, only maybe 1 or 2 had the “classic” symptoms. I believe that many people are unknowingly walking around with it thinking they have a cold as we are all being told to look out for a temperature and a cough.
Good luck and I hope your son recovers well

CaitrionaAnne · 02/12/2020 20:49

Snap! I have had an odd headache all day, sore throat, feeling achy and a bit rubbish, along with sore eyes and chills. Would normally put it down to a cold but you can never tell. Home kit ordered as a cough has started this evening too so time will tell I guess!!!

bimbimbap · 02/12/2020 20:53

day 1 for me was headache, days 2-3 sinus pain, day 4 loss of taste, day 5 tested positive and main symptoms after that were alight breathlessness & extreme tiredness

LindaEllen · 02/12/2020 20:56

I had a headache as one of my first symptoms, but there are so many things that can cause headaches that I really wouldn't worry about it just yet, but stay safe :).

mistermagpie · 02/12/2020 21:11

Staying safe not really an option with my DS, I can't keep him isolated so we've accepted we might all get it. I do suffer from recurring sinus problems so the headache might be something like that but it feels different, more like migraines I got when I was pregnant.

Headache was one of my worse symptoms 😞

BiscuitsUnited · 02/12/2020 21:27

I had a bad headache as part of my COVID symptoms and I never ever get headaches.

U8myufo · 02/12/2020 21:50

I had a headache every day for about a month. Intense headaches that painkillers didn't really help. For me though the headaches came after the uncontrollable cough and the feeling that something was pressing on my chest. It felt like a chest infection, and then came the headaches.

WhyNotMe40 · 02/12/2020 22:02

Were they one sided or equal sided headaches?

U8myufo · 02/12/2020 22:05

@WhyNotMe40

Were they one sided or equal sided headaches?
For me they were equal right across the front. Like a bad hangover.
StoicWalrus · 02/12/2020 22:09

Do you use the Zoe app? If you log your symptoms they may well tell you to get a test, especially if it is 2 days running. Then you don't have to fib and you can add to the pool of knowledge on symptoms.

WhyNotMe40 · 02/12/2020 22:09

I've had a mainly one sided headache for the past 4 days, and I'm exhausted.
But then I am exhausted! And stressed. So could be that. But you do wonder...

WhyNotMe40 · 02/12/2020 22:10

I was, but it logged me out, and I can't seem to reset the password!

SheilaTakeABow · 02/12/2020 22:16

Another one adding to the chorus. My first symptom was a splitting headache. A friend had started with that too, so I lied (said I had a temp) to get a test, and it was positive. Never had a cough or a temp, lost taste and smell about three days after the headache.
So yes, get a test Flowers

Gertie75 · 02/12/2020 22:41

I've had a raging headache all day too and fell asleep on the sofa at 5pm, I've had painkillers and they've taken the edge off but it hasn't gone completely.

I never get headaches so if it's still here tomorrow I'll book a test.

YellowPostItPad · 02/12/2020 22:51

Yes. I know of a 11 year old whose presenting symptom was a headache.

frustrationcentral · 02/12/2020 22:52

I know of 2 people this week who have been diagnosed after a headache (aged 9 and 38)

YellowPostItPad · 02/12/2020 22:54

In return I would assume the teacher picked it up from an asymptomatic child in her class.
JauntyMcGinty · 02/12/2020 23:07

Yes, several people we know have initially started with headaches and it's turned out to be COVID. Now of the mindset that any unusual symptoms or extreme tiredness I would go for a test, and lie about symptoms if I needed to

Alfiemoon1 · 02/12/2020 23:17

I used to work for test and trace doing the welfare calls headaches and head cold feeling were very common symptoms
