Will you take the vaccine?

Will you take the vaccine and why?
Just curious to different opinions on this really!

Yes

I’m CEV and I would love to move to the population level of restriction rather than shielding it shielding lite

Queenofthemadouse · 02/12/2020 09:40

@FourTeaFallOut

How long would you like to see the vaccine in the community for before you would take that as evidence of it having no long term effects *@Queenofthemadouse*?

I'm not trying to provoke you in to debate, I'm just interested when people see this. Is it 5 years, 10 years - 30 years? What's the reference point for long term?

I think probably a year or so. I do believe in vaccination. My MIL has been on the testing panel for it which makes me twitch and be proud in equal measure.

But I have young children. The risk of me catching Covid and dying from it is very very small. I don't know what the effects of this vaccine might be on an unborn baby for example. So if we decided to extend our family I wouldn't want to put that baby at a heightened risk before I'd had chance to see what the risks were. In 12m time I'd hope that enough data would be out there for me to make a decision. But I don't know.

As I said above- if I were 80 I'd have it no question. But I'm not.

Nootkah · 02/12/2020 09:41

Yes because id like to be protected from as many illnesses as possible. Its a no brainer. Its not going to turn any of us into radioactive bats, although uf superpowers are a side effect, im doubly in!

Doddlebug2000 · 02/12/2020 09:42

@QueenBlueberries as far as I can see this is this first thread of this type since today's breaking news?
Surely any similar threads before have been hypothetical answers

@Mrgrinch

that's interesting, there seems to be a lot of people who want to have it, but they want to wait a while and see how it affects people first. But then, how long do you wait?

Well, more precisely, I think mRNA vaccines I would rather never have (I would not need to see how it affects others first). The Oxford vaccine I have some reservations about the spike and using a chimpanzee adenovirus as a carrier (so probably I would not have it either)

A traditional whole virus vaccine I would probably have but I would like for it to be in use for longer (probably at least 5+ years)

luckylavender · 02/12/2020 09:45

@chocchipmonster - you could get it again

Scbchl · 02/12/2020 09:45

Il be reading into it extensively first. What is in it, have they been used and tested as safe in other vaccines etc..however I am 35 and healthy so will likely be one of the last few to get it I'd imagine.

trulydelicious · 02/12/2020 09:50

@Veterinari

No, the process for mRNA vaccines is not how you describe it, it is as follows

mRNA is injected into the body and enters cells, where it provides instructions to produce antigens. The cell then presents the antigens to the immune system, preparing the body to fight the disease

This quote is from the Pfizer website itself.

So your cells are given instructions by the mRNA to produce the antigen and then your immune system is expected to produce antibodies against the antigen that you have yourself produced

chocchipmonster · 02/12/2020 09:50

@luckylavender you could get it again

Sure. But the data on COVID reinfection suggests that it is not particularly common, and tends to occur in people who have constant exposure to the virus (ie. frontline healthcare workers).

I’m not afraid of catching it again as I had a very mild case the first time around.

I AM concerned about how new vaccine technology may affect autoimmune issues.

RudbeckiaGoldstrum · 02/12/2020 09:51

Yes.

QueenBlueberries · 02/12/2020 09:51

I wonder how long it will take for the government to publish an in-depth study about Long Covid? How many people have it, is there a health 'profile' for people who develop it, how long does it last, etc. Many people on this thread are stating that they are very unlikely to die from Covid, but what about Long Covid?

I have a friend who has it and she is 29, some days she can't even get out of bed. She's out of breath just going to the toilet. She is now loosing her hair. She is now wafer thin.

Deliaskis · 02/12/2020 09:52

Yes as soon as I am offered, which as I'm early 40s with no health conditions apart from being overweight, I assume will be well into the Spring at least. I registered to volunteer for the studies but I don't think there were any centres near me.

I think the scientific collaboration we have seen on this is really something to celebrate.

Thegirlhasnoname · 02/12/2020 09:52

Probably not straight away. I’m pregnant and plan to breastfeed this baby, just like i did my firstborn, so even if I was somewhere on the list I doubt it has been licensed for lactating mothers (like a lot of other medications).

ILookAtTheFloor · 02/12/2020 09:52

I know I'll be right at the back of the queue, ordinarily I'd have it tomorrow but I'm TTC. So I think I'll wait--potentially as long as it takes to (hopefully) conceive.

I'm guessing it's not licensed for pregnancy, who know about bf?

Otherwise, I would have it now.

BlueStarRose · 02/12/2020 09:53

Yes, but will be bottom of the queue. Under 40 and no health conditions. Once my parents have had it (I think they are category 4) then I will be relieved. They are both ready to go.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 02/12/2020 09:53

Totally agree re long covid. I know someone in her 20s with a young child who has it, which I can’t imagine is easy.

BernieInn · 02/12/2020 09:54

Yes, I'll take it if offered. However, I won't be kicking their door down for it unless not having it curtails the things I can do - travel, etc.

ArialAnna · 02/12/2020 09:54

Yes, I will be getting it. I don't trust the government at all, but I trust scientists and the head of the MHRA sounds very experienced and like she's got her head screwed on right!

I'm going to be completely honest and say that I don't understand much of that, my understanding of vaccines is very limited. I didn't realise that there were different types of vaccines being rolled out and I'll definitely be doing some reading into it, thank you.

Mumblechum0 · 02/12/2020 09:56

Yes absolutely. Time we all got a life again.

Mybedislisting · 02/12/2020 09:57

Yes a thousand times yes

DowntonCrabby · 02/12/2020 09:58

Yes, 36 but a frontline worker so we’ll hopefully be offered it soonish.

My late 60’s/early 70’s DP aren’t sure so I’m hoping hearing stories of those getting it and being fine will reassure them.

CeeJay81 · 02/12/2020 09:58

Yes I will. I'm most likely well down the list, barely 40 and not overweight or have health conditions. However my mum's in a care home, so may get it sooner as I've heard having a relative in one may move you up the list.

DeadButDelicious · 02/12/2020 09:59

Yup. Sign me up. I'd quite like to get back to something a bit like normal thanks!

RaininSummer · 02/12/2020 10:03

Probably but as I will be way down the list there is time to see what happens. May not rush if I were top of the list now but then again, the conditions I would need to put me as priority would make it more important.
