What it says. Children have already been impacted by prolonged school closures, individual isolation, inadequate teaching, isolation from peers and this will have impacted on their education, psychological and social development and mental and physical health. It is concerning for the majority of parents that there is a push for schools to close.

Please no derailment. This is an important issue that will affect a whole generation. There are numerous threads here about enforcing restrictions and limiting access to schools so please discuss concerns about these issues elsewhere.

A teaching colleague is currently in hospital with this. Her children are exposed to this regardless.

My son was exposed to this, and his brother, when the one caught Covid at school.

mumsneedwine · 02/12/2020 16:13

Having been at work all day it's good to hear I'm not in the real world. In my world (which must be on a fairy planet) we closed 2/3 of another year group today due to 5 more cases. 5 staff in hospital - you might not like to hear it but this is reality. Our school hadn't had a case this term 3 weeks ago. It's now rampant. Be careful if you say your school is fine. So was ours.

Billie18 · 02/12/2020 16:34

@Seriouslymole

OP, I'm sorry but you are definitely posting in the wrong place. Mumsnet is a hive of fear mongering and people who revel in the drama. I will pm you. I agree with you but I am now shutting down this thread as it has made me so angry.

@Billie18 you have t answered my question. We are now down 29 staff. How do we keep the school open ? Are you offering to come in and help as that would be great.

Both of our schools have been isolation free until this week. Pupils and teacher. Our first Covid test as a family yesterday. Presume it's not our last.

"Yes. It's scaremongering. Worrying that children are being exposed to this fear. Told that they are dangerous."

Anyone who is exposing their children to "fear" or telling them that they "are dangerous," needs to give themselves a good shake. It is a parent's job to reassure their children, not worry them unduly. Why would you do that, @Billie18?

YellowPostItPad · 02/12/2020 17:04

In the real world my kids secondary school has 50 teachers off either ill or self-isolating. Cases across all year groups.

My friends daughter has had 4 weeks off school - 2 weeks self-isolating then 2 weeks where the school was closed to all year groups. Work has switched online.

Poor teachers, they are putting themselves at risk in unsafe schools. Then working all hours to teach in school, plus set online work for those at home - basically they are working 2 jobs.

Isthatitnow · 02/12/2020 17:13

Still not answered my question, OP?

ThrawnCow · 02/12/2020 17:16

Loving the juxtaposition of "safe space" and "schools fully open" in your title, OP. Nice one.

CallmeAngelina · 02/12/2020 17:20

Yup, Thrawn. So odd that the OP wants a safe place to discuss the unsafe space that teachers and students are spending their days in.

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 02/12/2020 17:21

Has Billie answered the questions yet?

Thought not.

Stop feeding it.

starrynight19 · 02/12/2020 17:21

No the op won’t answer anybody unless they agree with what she says.
Happened on her other threads to.

I wish we had ‘normal’ schools as well op sadly I recognise we are in the middle of a pandemic and they are anything but.

DBML · 02/12/2020 18:01

Why do I get a ‘sales pitch’ type vibe from your threads op? It’s like you want to erase some of the recent negative press about schools.

Look, today my school sent home two bubbles (year groups) and for the first time, started sending home staff! Teachers and Senior leadership have been working so hard to try and maintain a normal-ish school experience for kids, but this virus is just not relenting at all!
We’re stuck between a rock and a hard place and it’s just unfair and cruel to suggest that teachers, vulnerable kids and vulnerable parents should simply accept risk for a greater good.

I think you need to think about what you are asking and how it could affect people; mums; daughters; sons; daddies l etc

thaneofglamour · 02/12/2020 18:03

Do you work, OP?

herecomesthsun · 02/12/2020 18:09

Can we have a safe space like this please (from Japan, 2020)

A safe space for parents and teachers who want schools fully open.
herecomesthsun · 02/12/2020 18:10

As opposed to an unsafe space like this (Scotland, October 2020)

A safe space for parents and teachers who want schools fully open.
flumposie · 02/12/2020 18:23

What exactly is your experience of being in a school op? I'll tell you mine. Out of 6 classes I teach 5 have had positive cases. I've been sat amongst it numerous times now. Each time I've been left with around 4 pupils as close contacts isolate. My classes are behind where they should be, the disruption is soul destroying. Some pupils have returned from isolating this week and are off again. This is with us trying our best to contain it with the pathetic measures schools have been allowed. Angry

middleager · 02/12/2020 18:36

OP won't answer the questions. Why is that?
Hmm

CarrieBlue · 02/12/2020 18:39

Us4Them have a website and a Facebook page - is that a safe enough space for you @Billie18? I’m sure you know how to find them.

Bollss · 02/12/2020 18:39

Have you old Hancock that? Don't kill granny has been the official line for a while. It's not parents scaring their children.
Bollss · 02/12/2020 18:41

Why is it that teacher threads aren't allowed to be derailed - you know, passive aggressive flowers and the like - but if you've got the opposite opinion it's fine for those flower loving posters to do the exact same thing on your thread? Mm. Funny that!

CallmeAngelina · 02/12/2020 18:43

@TrustTheGeneGenie: ONE poster put a daffodil. Just the one.
In the main, the flowers have stopped.

Oh have they stopped? Is that because mn finally decided that they weren't in the spirit and were actually quite nasty? I see.

Stop being a hypocrit.

Barbie222 · 02/12/2020 19:02

Another flounce, OP? I'm a teacher. I want my school to be open - I work there. What would you like us to do, apart from pretending there isn't a pandemic currently?

Bigger brains than yours have pondered, and all that.

Barbie222 · 02/12/2020 19:03

Why do I get a ‘sales pitch’ type vibe from your threads op?

You do wonder. There's a rash of posters with a number after their name, posting the same old.
