@Firefliess

Over 20,000 cases today :( London definitely heading for tier 3.
Does it have to be voted for?
MarshaBradyo · 10/12/2020 16:34

Mind you people talked a lot about short sharp, shock of ‘firebreak’ being preferable. The outcome isn’t much better is it? Once released cases go up.

Stilltalkstotrees · 10/12/2020 16:38

@MarshaBradyo

It will always increase once released, the trick is to get it v low, release gradually and intervene early once increasing.

Stilltalkstotrees · 10/12/2020 16:39

No vote needed. The current law lasts until 2/2/21 and gives the Govt power to decide tiers.

MarshaBradyo · 10/12/2020 16:39

Yes it will, no doubt.

However getting it very low takes ages - short and sharp it is not.

MarshaBradyo · 10/12/2020 16:40

Irritating they just get to decide. Lots of people are going to be unhappy (I predict). I hope we avoid tier 3 in London but we’ll see.

Firefliess · 10/12/2020 16:42

@marsha I'm not with you? I wasn't saying anything about voting Confused

lunar1 · 10/12/2020 16:43

They must have to rethink the Christmas free for all with numbers going up like this.

It was just a question

PrayingandHoping · 10/12/2020 16:44

The nhs hospital activity data is out

Annoyingly can't see it as my laptop has gone bang and my phone doesn't open it 🙄

MarshaBradyo · 10/12/2020 16:47

Fire ie on how tier 3 is decided. Eg Still’s post answers

Firefliess · 10/12/2020 16:55

Ahh, right. Yes @still is right, the government can move areas up or down without more votes in parliament. Parliament get a vote on the whole tier system at some point in the new year - they did set a date.

PrayingandHoping · 10/12/2020 17:01

Matt Hancock is about to do a Downing Street press conference according to bbc news channel

boys3 · 10/12/2020 17:02

Downing Street briefing about to start

FeelingBIue · 10/12/2020 17:06

London numbers are beginning to be a worry BUT it still has the lowest death rate per head of population.

Anecdotal but overhearing people bragging about how they're getting around the 'substantial meal' in order to cosy up in the pub is depressing.

Downing street briefing just starting.

TheSunIsStillShining · 10/12/2020 17:09

The pub on the corner is advertising in big letter that they have a "substantial"

MarshaBradyo · 10/12/2020 17:10

Nice for the briefing to be about vaccinations - the first part anyway

lurker101 · 10/12/2020 17:12

London schools closing?

MarshaBradyo · 10/12/2020 17:12

Testing all secondary age children

MarshaBradyo · 10/12/2020 17:13

Omg my relief - exam child - got worried there

Piggywaspushed · 10/12/2020 17:14

Surely marsha, once they realise/find out how many cases there are, the schools will close.

boys3 · 10/12/2020 17:14

Real regional variations looking at growth in the last seven days to 7th December.

London up 27.5% at 208 per 100,000 although outer boroughs 234 and inner 169. Outer boroughs almost 60% higher than at 1st November.

South east 175 up 22% in last seven days

East mids 166 marginal decrease

West mids 160 down 15%

East 159 up 33%

North east 152 down 14%

York’s & Humber 145 down 20%

North west 133 down 9%

South west 78 down 11%

And I’d course council area variations within regions.

Matt Hancock just said biggest rise in secondary age group children - seemed to reference London. Testing all secondary school age kids in worst affected boroughs and bits of Essex.

Just like they did in the north west, north east, Yorkshire. Hang on oddly they didn’t do that.Hmm

ChristmasinJune · 10/12/2020 17:14

What channel's it on?

lurker101 · 10/12/2020 17:15

Yeah I honestly thought he was gearing up to announce closing them! Hopefully this will provide significant data on any specific symptoms in school age children or if they’re significantly more likely to be asymptomatic.
