It's best for children to be in school

I'm shocked that the consensus here appears to be that schools should close. I believe that it's best for children to be in school. Also that they should not be forced to wear masks or perform any social distancing as this is a damaging for their mental and social development. A thread for parents and teachers who share this view and have concerns about the threat of school closures and forced isolation of children who are not ill.

Noble has been very clear that she wants schools to remain open, as have all the other regular contributors who are teachers.

Last Thursday, 22% of secondary school children were absent. Many of those in school were being taught by supply or non subject specialist teachers (secondary) due to staff sickness. It's not really the quality of education that noblegiraffe has been advocating for.

The point is that making schools safer, which the govt had all the time in the world over the summer to plan for, would have reduced this disruption to education and suppressed the transmission of the virus.

But it's noble wanting schools to be safer that is the problem?

Right you are.

It’s embarrassing to see how noble is carrying on. But this is Mumsnet and outside of it, schools are open. Closing when they need to, only to reopen.
It isn't Noble who should be embarrassed.

Not once has she advocated closing schools.

It's worrying that there are people on this site who don't give a fuck for the safety of school staff and children. That's very weird.

Bridge dwellers, I expect.

Well I'm glad you are embarrassed. On your own account. of course.

I'd be ashamed to have such appalling reading skills that I could not see that noblegiraffe has never ever called for schools to close.

I'm embarrassed by those 'alright Jacks' trying to discredit Noble and those of us at schools on their knees.

Oh dear.

Where exactly has noble asked for schools to be closed and to stay closed?

This is the bit that gets me exercised about MNHQ.

Why do they allow posters to post lies about posters. Thread after fucking thread.

It is NOT debate. It is lies.

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 02/12/2020 11:14

They have allowed teacher bashing from the word go. I've lost count of how many times I reported abusive posts or just generally complained. I stopped bothering because "debate", apparently.

noblegiraffe · 02/12/2020 14:35

The weirdest thing is that they expect me to give a shiny shit about their opinions of me. I think they're terrible people, why on earth would I care?

Northernsoulgirl45 · 02/12/2020 21:28

Yes. I think healthy children should not be forced to isolate. Obviously no sick child should be in school.

Yeah great idea. Schools will really remain open when potentially Covid + kids are in school passing it on to the adults in school and adults st home as kids don't necessarily have same symptoms as adults.
