Can you eat at a restaurant in another tier?

I can’t find an answer to this online. If for example, you live in a tier 3 area, could you eat out in a tier 2 area.
I know travel from tier to tier unless travelling through, is strongly discouraged, but from what I’ve read, not banned entirely. So, is eating out in another tier discouraged or banned?

Okay it's not illegal but it does break covid rules or guidelines. So I would wonder if you come into contact with someone with covid whilst out or you test positive a day later if you would be fined. Track and trace and all that
Restaurants will be taking names and addresses if you don't check in on the app so they might turn you away at the door anyway.

I know, I know!! I’m very lucky.
It’s truly wonderful isn’t it?
School is my Covid free ‘safe space’... 😂

You think?! 😂

LondonlovesLola · 27/11/2020 19:18

From the Tier 3 Gov U.K. rules:

you can continue to travel to venues or amenities which are open, but should aim to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible

Soooo.... what does this mean?

Will they? Is that a ‘rule’ as well? Because I’m in tier 3 and most haven’t asked for that here in the places I’ve visited from July to November. It’s been much more common to ask for a name and phone number.
FractionalGains · 27/11/2020 19:29

i work in a pub in tier 2 I’m a zero hours contract if I get ill I don’t get paid I’ve already gone without pay for this whole lockdown too

I sympathise and think the way hospitality have been treated is disgusting.

The other side of the coin is that most pubs are not viable in tier 2 so the custom from tier 3 might keep you in a job.

I’m tier 3 and won’t be travelling anywhere for a meal out (going to order takeaways from local places to try to keep them afloat) but honestly I think hospitality need all the custom they can get.

And this thread shows how divisive this tier system is. Of course tier 2 will resent tier 3 if they come across and raise infections because no one wants to end up in tier 3. On the other hand if you’re tier 3 it’s so fucking miserable, especially if you’ve been in restrictions for months already, I find it hard to resent people wanting the same very limited shitty freedom (but still better than tier 3) that tier 2 have. It’s no wonder people are turning on each other.

No they won’t, they are required to obtain an email address or phone number, not a home address

I agree the tier system is rubbish because it’s so complicated and I know everyone was looking forward to a bit of freedom after lockdown 2. But at the same time if any staff member at our pub catches it the whole pub has to close for at least two weeks and those of us on zero hours contract won’t get pay
Ginogineli · 27/11/2020 19:47

No they ask name and phone or email and most give fake details

Last time I went out and gave my details at the club house in town -on leaving I asked them if I needed to ‘check out’ so I was down as leaving - she said no they automatically log everyone out at midnight

Midnight!!!! So I ate at 1pm yet I’m still checked in all day? So I’m a contact of everyone all day

Same with app apparently - you’re only logged out of a place when you check into another - or midnight - whichever is closer

That’s ridiculous

What makes you think ‘most give fake details’ for track and trace what would be the point of that?
Ginogineli · 27/11/2020 19:59

Because most people can’t think of anything worse than having to isolate - esp when bars and restaurants don’t record their details and times properly

Not everyone gets paid to isolate you mnks

Ginogineli · 27/11/2020 19:59

I just said in an earlier comment that I’ve gone without pay this whole lockdown and won’t get paid for the 2 weeks I have to isolate if someone from tier 3 comes to our pub and infects us.

Also the reason we don’t make people ‘logout’ is the staff are there all day and if someone gives it to us we would then be spreading it to other customers later in the day/week.

So there are people who have been told they’ve been in contact with someone infected and refuse to isolate? Not surprised there are still so many restrictions, how can you complain about being in tier 3 it’s people like you that are the reason for it.

Ginogineli · 27/11/2020 20:09

Yes but you are not supposed to be isolating contact of contacts

That’s against advice

It’s contacts within 2m for 15 mins only

Most waiting on staff don’t spend 15 mins

If that’s your criteria that’s awful as that is not your job to make rules up

BackforGood · 27/11/2020 20:49

The whole system is divisive.

No it's not. that says more about your attitude.
I am in Tier 3. A big City - hospitals full - R rate high. Lots of areas where large families are overcrowded in multi generational families. It makes a lot of sense that we are in Tier 3.
However, I have 2 dds in different parts of the UK where the population is much lower, the R rate lower, the risk / likelihood of catching the virus much lower. How would it benefit me for them to be locked down as tightly as I am ? Confused

LondonlovesLola · 27/11/2020 21:06

BackforGood

The whole system is divisive.

No it's not

It’s not exactly unifying is it?

BackforGood · 27/11/2020 21:37

But I don't understand the thinking of "If I can't have something then no-one can" . Confused

I'm pleased that my dds are able to get out and about a bit, even if I can't

FractionalGains · 27/11/2020 23:28

backforgood

I don’t want anyone to be locked down any more than they have to be - for their own well being and for that of the economy.

But of course people feel upset to be pushed to the brink with such horrible restrictions, and then see they haven’t been treated equally with others, who are allowed more freedom. Pandemics don’t care much for fairness, I get that, but it’s a perfectly understandable emotional reaction.

I don’t think I’ve broken a single rule and yet here I am in tier 3 with such high rates I can’t see my area coming out at any point. It just feels so desperate and futile.

BackforGood · 27/11/2020 23:54

I totally get that @FractionalGains
What I personally disagree with is saying having different tiers is devisive.

We have to react more severely if you are in a City which already has a high R rate, but, just because I need to be living under tighter restrictions, I don't understand why people in the Isle of Man would have to shut down in sympathy with that, when they are not in the same danger that the inhabitants of my City are.

Soooo.... what does this mean?

It’s not referring to hospitality amenities

The line below is the one would need to refer to

avoid travelling to other parts of the UK, including for overnight stays other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities. You can travel through other areas as part of a longer journey

It’s not confusing

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/11/2020 01:37

I'm tier 3 and I don't want to be in tier 3 any longer than necessary. It is hateful to our own local hospitality industry, so people shouldn't be going out to tier 2 for meals and keeping local businesses shut for longer! You're not special just because you might work in tier 2, work is necessary, going out for meals isn't.

EffOrf · 28/11/2020 07:03

I think you just need to follow the law, the government law that is not the law of Mumsnet, I would consult the proper documents not ask on here for anything like that

ThatDamnScientist · 28/11/2020 07:40

@PicsInRed

What if I'm far from home and need to test my sitting bum? Can I just go to a cafe and sit down, really test out the sitting, maybe grab a coffee and a sandwich, until I'm satisfied that my bum sits well enough to continue sitting safely elsewhere? Never fear, I'll use my own best personal judgement. That's what we're meant to do, right? Use our own common sense.

I'm off to "test the sitting".👍

😂

Exactly People continually saying the rules are confusing when they aren’t. Or saying they are conflicting because I can do x but I can’t do y when the difference between them is again really clear
