To be weary of the vaccines?

Will you be getting it?

Will you be allowing your children to get it?

I'm curious to peoples responses as my social media seems to be full of posts from people mocking those who will get the vaccine.

I'm by no means an anti Vaxer. Myself and my children have had all vaccinations and have the flu jab yearly. My only worry is that not enough is known about the long term side effects.

@Givemeabreak88

I couldn’t care less if people think I’m selfish, I’m not touching any COVID vaccine, I only see people so for it on Mumsnet. Most people irl aren’t happy to take it.
My experience is the exact opposite. I don't know of anyone in my real life who won't get it if offered. Almost all were elated with the vaccine news and are seeing it as something that might get us out of this mess we're in.

Actually I do know of two people who won't, distant family. However they are also the type who don't really believe in Covid either, despite having family members who have had it including some who've been very ill with it. They're breaking all the rules, couldn't care less and come up with strange conspiracies about Covid, the vaccines, the lot.

Aragog · 23/11/2020 16:59

*I think that once the vaccine has been rolled out to the over 70s or so, the bubbles stuff in school will go relatively quickly.

We only have to have these measures because of the impact of the disease on the older population. Once they are protected by the vaccine other people getting it is less of an issue.*

I hope they wait til EVERYONE who is clinically vulnerable, regardless of age, has been vaccinated first. There are a lot of clinically vulnerable staff in schools so bubbles will still be needed to protect them somewhat surely?!

ChiaraRimini · 23/11/2020 17:05

What ChickenTikka said up thread. The vaccines have been tested on 1000s of people.
It's a real shame that there is such suspicion of vaccines which I suspect dates back to the Andrew Wakefield MMR hoax.

boobot1 · 23/11/2020 17:14

@JemimaJellyfish

Your freedom is just a safe vaccine away.

That sent a chill down my spine.

Sounds like a line from a dystopian novel
adoiada · 23/11/2020 17:53

Would you change your mind if it became a requirement before you could do something?

If it was something I wanted to do, then I'd weigh up how badly I want to do it. Isn't that obvious?

Would I take it to join a gym? No. My desire to join a gym isn't that strong!

Would I take it just to be able to go on holiday? Probably not. I can go a couple of years without a holiday.

To travel overseas if a family member were to be in trouble or ill health or something like that, then probably yes.

Gellert · 23/11/2020 18:01

I'd pay to have it if I could, same for the rest of the family (DH & DD's).

jessstan1 · 23/11/2020 23:02

Yes, I think I would rather than wait a long time to have it. I wonder how much it would cost? I know the vaccine itself is going to be something like £12.78 a shot but obviously if you go private, you'll have to pay for the time and expertise of the person administering it.

I'm seventy but not 'vulnerable', ie nothing physically wrong with me, so I wouldn't have priority on the NHS which I think is fair enough. However I would like to be able to go out and about while I am still able.

We have a few months to think about this yet.

jessstan1 · 23/11/2020 23:07

PS: £12.56 per injection, not 78..

cbt944 · 24/11/2020 02:44

This is a nice rundown on the three major vaccines currently looking very viable. Answers a lot of questions I had, and clarifies some terminology.

Of course I'll get it. The CEO of Qantas has just announced that proof of the the jab will be required on any of their international flights. As I'm in Australia and would like to see my mum again, its a total no brainer. I expect a lot of anti vaxxers will change their mind when they realise they won't be allowed on a plane until they do.

itwillallendintiers · 24/11/2020 09:22

I will have the jab to go on holiday, fucking too right, Cyprus awaits, missed it so much this yearGrin

JimmyTheBrave · 24/11/2020 10:01

Do you mean that the restrictions for unvaccinated people will only last a couple of years? Many have said "Covid is here to stay", which to me would suggest any restrictions will be in place for many years to come.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 24/11/2020 10:16

Jesstan, you are priority. Anyone over the age of 50 is.

First time in my life I’ve been thankful for being 57.

Can’t bloody wait to go on holiday, meet friends etc. Moved our massive family holiday in Italy to next year as this year was a write off. Can’t wait.

I find the opposite. Most people are desperate te for it. My dd 14 wants everyone to have it. Then she can do normal teen stuff. Sleepovers etc.

Caroncarona · 24/11/2020 10:19

I'm not getting it. I don't know anyone in real life who actually is.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 24/11/2020 10:19

And it seems the people moaning most about lockdown and restrictions are the ones least likely to have it🤷🏼‍♀️

Selfish

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 24/11/2020 10:22

Enough people gaining immunity through natural infection

Immunity appears to last 6 months or so. So how is the population going to get full immunity?

Frequentflier · 24/11/2020 10:25

I will get it. My Dh will get it. My 16-year-old DS will get it if he can. And I will be bloody grateful to everyone who worked to make this available.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 24/11/2020 10:36

Frequent flier👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Me too! I think non vaxxers shouldn’t be allowed to fly or enter public areas. If they are so keen not to have it let them live with consequences. This is a public health emergency and the whole world needs to protect each other and pull together.

In New York, children aren’t allowed to enrol in school unless they have vaccinations.

Edward Jenner would be turning in his grave now if he knew that his invention that stated the whole vaccine thing was being seen as dangerous or optional.

Oh do sod off! More fucking logic! Give us a break will you?

Clearly we don't move in the same circles, (obviously)

DemolitionBarbie · 24/11/2020 11:11

People who would choose not to have the jab - could the rest of us choose not to pay for your hospital treatment please?
