To be weary of the vaccines?

Will you be getting it?

Will you be allowing your children to get it?

I'm curious to peoples responses as my social media seems to be full of posts from people mocking those who will get the vaccine.

I'm by no means an anti Vaxer. Myself and my children have had all vaccinations and have the flu jab yearly. My only worry is that not enough is known about the long term side effects.

Well I think of people actually cared about the nhs they'd stop drinking, smoking, driving, doing dangerous hobbies, having babies, taking drugs, etc and all the other things that "put pressure on the nhs'

All of these activities may put pressure on the NHS. None of them will infect healthcare workers. This is an important difference from Covid.

Igglepiggle78 · 21/11/2020 21:21

@unchienandalusia That’s utter crap.

I’m really unsure and don’t think I want it, no.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 21/11/2020 21:24

Get it. I'm very slightly wary there may be side effects we've not had time to discover yet. However, I will 100% get it and so will my kids.

AdelaMia · 21/11/2020 21:26

Thank you @GoldenOmber

ilikebooksandplants · 21/11/2020 21:29

I would be first in the fucking queue if it’ll bring back normal life.

Just because you clowns had never heard of a coronavirus before last January doesn’t mean the incredible teams involved in developing this vaccine haven’t built on significant existing research. Sign me the fuck up!

Aridane · 21/11/2020 21:31

@camelscrossingthedesert

No, although it has nothing to do with it being rushed. I only have vaccinations for diseases or illnesses that would leave me unwell. I am not at risk of Covid, so won’t get the vaccination.
Why are you not at risk of catching covid - do you not go out?
Pollynextdoor · 21/11/2020 21:35

I am getting the vaccine. Only weary of people who are weary of the vaccine.

Moondust001 · 21/11/2020 21:37

I am weary of the number of threads on this issue.

DonnaDonna01 · 21/11/2020 21:41

@clarcats I have the flu vaccine to protect family and friends around me who are vulnerable or elderly and may not fair so well if I caught it and then passed it in to them.

Dawnlassie · 21/11/2020 21:45

@Covidiot

*The ill-educated won’t get it.

The educated will as they will be able to look up and see exactly what processes have been followed and realise that it’s the same one as usual, just without the gaps whilst funding, admin etc is performed.

It’s a Darwinian thing.

If you’re not a twat (or obviously have a specific medical condition which makes vaccines problematic) the you’ll get the vaccine*

Strong username to content correlation.

camelscrossingthedesert · 21/11/2020 21:46

I didn’t say I wouldn’t catch it, I said I wasn’t at risk of it, aridane

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/11/2020 21:47

How the Pandemix vaccine for the swine flu managed to get to the point where it was injected into children, considering all the testing that must have been carried out

I'm told that, within the industry, there's some doubt as to how extensively it was tested on children - as with Thalidomide, which was tested but not on pregnant women, they tend for obvious reasons to choose the less vulnerable for trials, at least initially

BTW this has come via a relative who works in the field rather than from myself, so forgive me if I haven't put it very well

TensAndUnits · 21/11/2020 21:47

I won’t be having it neither will my dh or adult dc

frumpety · 21/11/2020 21:54

I will be having it and haven't come across a scientifically viable argument that would make me change my mind.
If you don't want it, don't have it, I just don't see the sense in making a huge song and dance about it, what's that all about ? Do you want people to think you are special or different ?
Try to remember there are people who would like to be able to have it and can't for health reasons. You flinging yourself about the internet spouting faux science just adds to their anxieties, be a grown up and just decline to have it, if offered , nobody else needs to know.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 21/11/2020 21:58

@Whatwouldscullydo

What makes you think we will be "let out" after ?
seriously.

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Two things...

  1. Even if it was still the law re lockdown as it is in England now, how would not having the vaccine help?
  1. Boris & a lot of the Govt don't want the restrictions we have now.

WTAF do you keep banging on about them keeping us locked up. You're really starting to sound quite bonkers.

unchienandalusia · 21/11/2020 22:08

@Igglepiggle78 is that supposed to prove or disprove my point?

frumpety · 21/11/2020 22:08

God that felt good ! Have a few anti covid vaccine types on my SM. Generally lovely people, but why the need to make a big hoohah over it , most are not in the age group that will be front of the line anyway Hmm

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 21/11/2020 22:09

@AliceMck

I won’t be jumping to have it straight away even though I’m high risk. I understand a lot of work has gone into it but I’m still wary of the fact it would be impossible to fully test and monitor any serious side effects in the time they have had to produce it.
@AliceMck

I totally respect your right to choose & I know how scary it is being high risk.

However I've come to a different conclusion.
I feel the testing has been done over many many thousands of people and none of them have had any serious side effects the trial seem quick, but they're really not, it's just the way they've been done. There's no more risk in not having a 10 year study than with any other vaccine/drug. I'm guess you don't look this deeply into every drug you're given? Or the flu jab?

Side effects really show up quickly, not long term.

I have very low tolerance to medication, but
I know that Covid would be really bad if I got it. I'd rather have the vaccine.

I'm not saying you don't have the right the choose, you definitely do, I'm just saying that you might find some reassurance if you go looking forward it.

Take care 🌷

Everyone is at risk of it. Everyone.

Why not?
Whatwouldscullydo · 21/11/2020 22:11

WTAF do you keep banging on about them keeping us locked up. You're really starting to sound quite bonkers

Cos there's only really one way out of this.

Theres multiple exemptions to masks.

Multiple exemptions to going out
You cant force people onto vaccines and what not.

The only way out is to make things so confusing or anger inducing we end it ourselves

shesellsseashells99 · 21/11/2020 22:13

@Sushirolls

I won't be having it, even if it means resigning from my job( I work in care). I think DH is on the fence, DS1, DD1 & DD2 have all said they won't have it but I think DS2 will have it if offered (early 20's, so will be awhile). My DSis and I have agreed that we will refuse consent for our DM to have it.
I work in care too and we have a new policy that says we have to have the vaccine when it comes out else we will lose our jobs.
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 21/11/2020 22:23

@Thimbleberries

I'll have it for sure.

This is as much testing as any vaccines get; it's just been done in parallel. No waiting time for funding, for approval, for getting volunteers, for resources - everything just happens, at once. Most of the normal 10 years isn't because they are waiting and testing for 10 years. They are waiting for funding or other things instead - nothing is actually happening regarding the vaccine.

What would actually convince people? If you don't trust the scientists now, what could they do that would convince you? if you aren't a scientist, and you just have a feeling that things have been rushed, how will you ever decide that things are good enough? A feeling isn't really enough. You can only really decide by looking at the protocols and the data, and as most people don't have the background to analyse that properly, you have to trust the scientists who do. They don't want to do anything to harm people. they want the best risk/benefit ratio possible. They aren't part of the government.

Side effects will be apparent now. There aren't really going to be long term effects - that's not how vaccines work. There might be very rare side effects that will only be apparent once millions of people have been given it. That would happen with any vaccine, not because this one has been rushed. There is a very small risk of that, but that risk is the same with any vaccine, even those that have been tested for years - you only get that sort of data once you've tried it on millions of people (which shows how rare they are). This could happen after a year or 10 years, depending on the uptake of the vaccine. It really isn't something that is going to apparent just because of the passing of time.

Contrast that with known long-term effects of covid, which seems to be a very real risk. The risk of unknown side effects of a vaccine has to be smaller than that, because if they've not been found in the tens of thousands that have tried it so far, they will be rarer than that. If any unknown effects happen once it's tried in millions of people, they will be extremely rare - i.e., one in millions. That is rarer than the known effects of long covid.

👏🏻

I'd like to know the answer to that too

I may copy your post (including your user name) & repost it on other threads, if that's ok with you?!

Maybe you could do a TV advert. It would be far better than a Public Service Announcement the Govt us likely to commission!!

Wtf are you on about?

JS87 · 21/11/2020 22:29

kifomadertonasomc

Just because other vaccine trials take longer doesn’t necessarily mean they have longer term follow up. You set the length of follow up at the start of the trial. If it is deemed that anything over three months for example is unlikely to be vaccine mediated then they won’t collect follow up data.
So whilst it might seem rushed to you it doesn’t mean that the follow up period isn’t the same as for any other vaccine trial.
