Has Covid-19 made you realise just how inherently selfish so many people are?

It has me.
The world is a mess and most people only really care about themselves and their families.
Fed up to the back teeth of people trying to justify why they can't possibly do X, Y, and or Z.
Just be honest and say "Because I don't really care about passing this virus on, I'm not bothered about those more vulnerable than myself."

And the vigilante rule enforcers and informers have given me greater understanding as to how you can quite easily get people to turn on each other "for the greater good

Yeah, i thought it would be more difficult and take a while

It was really quick

@Gwenhwyfar

Perveen - answer the question though. Is it better for everyone to be stuck inside than just some people? And if so, why?
Yes, it's better for everyone to stay home to curb transmission. Which can be done by a symptomatic people. Those of you feeling healthy and running around at will could well be making others sick with a deadly disease.

Anyone who flouts distancing and lockdown compliance should be denied medical treatment for Covid. Willing to risk it, then risk it all the way. Don't endanger health care workers through selfishness.

I’ve realised a lot of my friends are too scared to / too lazy to have to stay home with their own kids (most in public sector jobs so would still get paid) for 3 days awaiting a test result so are selfishly sending them off to nursery with a new cough or a temp because they are shit parents who can’t be assed to entertain their own children basically.

Walkaround · 14/11/2020 14:05

@PerveenMistry - I know my df would readily forgo medical treatment to be able to see his family regularly before he dies rather than die of old age in isolation. Whether healthcare workers are inhumane enough to test someone for coronavirus and then leave them to die completely untreated and unmonitored if they test positive is another question altogether, though (and you are criticising others for their selfishness and lack of humanity! Shock). Do you also believe the obese, alcoholics, drug addicts and the sedentary should be refused medical treatment for any illness that could be attributable to their behaviour, too?

ExpectTheWorst · 14/11/2020 15:29

But it's not deadly to most people; in fact, the majority don't even have any symptoms.

Gwenhwyfar · 14/11/2020 23:51

"Yes, it's better for everyone to stay home to curb transmission"

Would it be better for everyone to stay at home to avoid car accidents? To avoid anything else at all that is risky? Where do you draw the line?
How long should everyone stay at home for? What if the vaccine doesn't work because the disease has mutated too much? Would you expect everyone to stay at home for another two years? Forever?

Car accidents are not contagious.

Do you seriously not understand the difference? Car accidents and other risks do not spread virally.

Exactly. This pandemic is certainly showing the shit, lazy and incompetent parents for what they are. It's reprehensible.

No one cares if your Df dies - wow. Untapped wells of human stupidity. Your posts are seriously unpleasant perveen.

I don’t necessarily accept it matters whether car accidents are contagious to make the point that we could curtail our freedom to save lives, as PP was. But if you want a contagion point, we don’t shut the country down to save lives in flu season. Don’t be facile and say covid isn’t flu. I know. It’s a contagious disease - spreads virally - and if we all stayed at home every winter to curb transmission, thousands of lives would be saved.

You are ignorant as to the complexity and nuance of this situation if you think it’s as simple as everyone should just “stay at home to curb transmission”, as though there aren’t a great multitude of factors to be taken into account as to the best way forward for everyone.

FractionalGains · 15/11/2020 06:41

Incidentally, my cousin is a volunteer on the vaccine trial for Oxford. He is also a GP. If he were to break the rules, and catch covid but it was unclear whether he caught it from a patient or from breaking the rules, is he allowed treatment on your humane triage system of who is allowed healthcare and who isn’t?

@ExpectTheWorst
Completely agree with you.
The sheeplike behaviour and hysteria as well as the grimly gleeful demanding even harsher rules has been sobering -how easily people are whipped up into a frenzy and how they love to dob in neighbours.

Jrobhatch29 · 15/11/2020 06:49

How unpleasant @PerveenMistry

Temporarything · 15/11/2020 06:59

It’s shown me that people don’t understand risk, that some will spout opinions as if it was fact, that there are a lot of conspiracy theorists around.

A good thing has been the way my local community has rallied around to help small businesses

I often wonder if people were told a year ago of the extreme opinions they would hold today whether they would be shocked. A prime example is above.

userxx · 15/11/2020 07:23

It's the innocents he sickens along the way that are our concern.

Wtf!! That's some backward thinking, you sound truly vile.
