Oh I am just fed up now with all this hysteria and nonsense peddled on social media. I'm in Liverpool and yesterday on a local FB group some bell end shared a FB video from a total idiot, a self-proclaimed "thought leader" (Laurence Fox type). Half an hour of absolute drivel ramping up the anxiety levels of gullible and naiive parents watching, who were posting all along "Oh my God! This is unbelievable, I'm pulling my child out of school" etc etc.
It was about a similar thing. About how the military will be going into some schools to test children as part of the Liverpool pilot testing programme. (The adults I know who have volunteered at the test centres run by the military are incidentally extremely impressed with how well it's run and how polite and patient the staff are. Results back to their phone in half an hour - superb service, well done, military staff!) But the idea of them visiting schools, well, this apparently will traumatise them for life, seeing the military coming in.
( Let's ignore the fact that they often go into schools, to give careers talks)
At first I was sneering and laughing thinking "These people must have seen too many zombie films" if they're scared of a few soldiers behaving professionally and efficiently in an environment like a school with many other competent adults present.
But then I started to think about how widespread this type of hysteria has become and it just gets fucking depressing. The lack of intelligence, and the willingness to believe everything that some narcissistic arsehole is spouting on Fakebook and Twatter. There are too many David Icke figures on social media. Part of me wishes social media had never been invented if this is the result.
Look, OP, the reason why the military are involved is because all this needs extremely well-organised and well-trained manpower, without any faffing or endless meetings about meetings, and we just don't have that in the NHS as they're already too busy doing their day jobs. The reason the military are so good in their efficiency in situations like this is because their own life and that of their colleagues depends on everything running well in their military life. That's ALL. No conspiracy. No zombie movie. Get over it. The needless drama is getting right on my tits, but when people start removing their children from school because they can't get a grip, then it makes me doubly angry. These children's lives will be made a misery kept at home by anxious fanatics. Who is safeguarding these children? It's awful. THIS is what is causing the biggest issue of the whole pandemic - hysteria.
Get. A. Grip.
