Lockdown should be Extended past Dec 2nd until all over 80s are vaccinated

IslandGyal · 10/11/2020 12:10

So the first vaccinations will be available at the start of December. If we extend our lockdown until the end of January we could get most of our elderly population vaccinated. This would save so many lives and avoid a Xmas surge.

This is certainly achievable if the other vaccine candidates are effective.

Once we have vaccinated our over 80s we are unlikely to return to the high levels of deaths since 60% of the deaths so far are in those over 80.

This would save so many lives and enable us to reopen faster.

We should all sacrifice Xmas now there is an end goal in sight and Thousands of lives Can be saved.

The vaccine hasn’t even been tested in the only age groups yet

Ginogineli · 10/11/2020 14:24

Older

Doingitaloneandproud · 10/11/2020 14:28

Nah I'm good, I wouldn't comply. Feel free to stay in your own house though

bathsh3ba · 10/11/2020 14:39

This is exactly what I'm afraid the government will use an excuse for extending lockdown because they don't have the courage to be honest with the public. Maybe a vaccine will save us from lockdown #3 but I for one will not be complying if lockdown #2 is extended beyond 2 December, unless the numbers get significantly worse.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 10/11/2020 15:10

Given children are hardly affected by COVID they really shoild not be a priority except ecv children of course. Not even sure if it will be licensed or effective for children.
Really wouldn't want a further lockdown right now. There has to be balance.

Racoonworld · 10/11/2020 15:16

No. I’m not complying with that, sorry.

yellowsubmarines · 10/11/2020 16:04

8 of 10 people I know are not currently complying to lockdown rules. I think they need to call this lockdown off and reopen the shops now.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 10/11/2020 16:09

Out interest, those of you who are saying they're not complying or know people who are not, what exactly are you doing? It's not like you can go anywhere with everything shut. I guess you could have people in your house but that's just about it.

I'm seeing my mum in her home but she lives alone and is going through cancer treatment (obviously I'm keeping my distance). Other than walks around the neighbourhood and taking my daughter to school, that's all I'm doing.

3littlewords · 10/11/2020 16:17

Lockdown will end on 2nd dec purely for economic reasons like Christmas when we probably spend the most money compared to the rest of the year . Dec 3rd the high streets will be rammed! We may all be in tier 3 restrictions so no pubs or mixing households but businesses will be open.

Calmandmeasured1 · 10/11/2020 16:24

@RainbowParadise

I personally think we should be vaccinating NHS staff, teachers and the ECV of all ages before the over 80s
My ndn, a nurse, wants it tried on others first before she has it so that she knows it is safe. 😂

movingonup20 · 10/11/2020 16:27

No because our young people are at increasing risk of mental health issues. Unlike kids they are now banned from seeing their families, friends etc. My daughter is in a small room with just 2 people she's only known for 5 weeks in nearby rooms. That's it. Our 80 year old friend is meeting her for walks (I'm too far away) and wants her to come and stay, my friend doesn't agree with the lockdown

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 10/11/2020 16:32

No one over 75 should be vaccinated before children and people under 50 who are ECV are.

Why only ECV under 50 Ponoka? What's your rationale for that cut off age?

TheKeatingFive · 10/11/2020 16:36

The vaccine hasn’t even been tested in the older age groups yet

That’s not true

buttercuptea · 10/11/2020 16:37

Out interest, those of you who are saying they're not complying or know people who are not, what exactly are you doing? It's not like you can go anywhere with everything shut. I guess you could have people in your house but that's just about it.
One neighbour had 6 cars arrive Saturday with at least 10 people inside their home and none of them had masks on. On other days it's more like 3-4 cars per day arriving at their house.
Another neighbour had cars coming and going throughout the day with people without masks going into the home. 2 of the people from the first neighbour went into the home of the second neighbour when all this was going on. Those 2 people were back and forth inside both neighbour's houses, isn't that mixing households (plus the other 8 people)?
Also whilst one neighbour regularly has shopping delivered by the local authority, the neighbour is also going into the local shop daily whilst not wearing a mask and 3 different family members are regularly bringing this neighbour food as well by going into the home without masks.
Another neighbour has a mum and daughter still visiting for play dates inside the home.
Meanwhile I am working from home, have had no visitors, haven't left my house because my shopping is delivered through Tesco and I'm getting fed up that life around me seems to be carrying on as if covid isn't happening. Angry I won't comply with a lockdown past 2 Dec.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 10/11/2020 16:41

Wow. I CBA socialising in my home at the best of times but now even more so! Anyone watching my house would see my cleaner come in once a week, and my hairdresser came in last week (prior to lockdown). I wonder if they think I'm not complying with lockdown.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 10/11/2020 16:46

Even if it was available in December (which it won't) the doses still have to be spaced out over a month, from what they were saying. And where are the6 going to find the storage units? -80 isn't going to be easy in every area, so people will have to travel for miles just to get vaccinated.

MereDintofPandiculation · 10/11/2020 16:48

@Requinblanc

Why?

Do you think all that matters are the lives and welfare of the over 80s?

The average life expectation is 81.16 in the UK...

Nobody is going to comply with another lockdown anyway.

Not to mention the fact that many people don't want their final month/year to be spent locked alone without being able to see their relatives.

whatever happened to common sense in this country?

But the average life expectancy of someone who has reached the age of 81 is another 8 or 9 years. So you're not necessarily talking about people in their final month or year. By all means base your argument on 81 year olds being usually economically inactive and not looking after dependents, but don't fall into the trap of thinking that an 81 year old who dies of Covid would have been dead in the next few months in any case.

It should be tested on all the politicians first. Then we'll know if it's safe for general population ( after about 6 months) if they haven't all been killed off by mutations of their t-cells and turned into the walking dead.

helloxhristmas · 10/11/2020 16:50

No thanks.

I wouldn't comply and I have with everything so far. My 80+ year old relatives wouldn't either.

yellowsubmarines · 10/11/2020 16:50

A woman I used to work with as well as her sister go to visit their 95 year old mum who lives alone. But the woman also collects her mum and brings her back to her house for tea. The woman is also meeting up with others, going into their homes and inviting people into her home. She openly talks about it with us on our zoom chats and we're all Shock

Kljnmw3459 · 10/11/2020 16:51

I feel like with this vaccine news it will be impossible to have another lockdown as people are fully expecting to return to normal latest January. Me included!

islockdownoveryet · 10/11/2020 16:52

Even if ready in December I doubt logistically I can't see how they will able to vaccinate everyone over 80 . I suspect this time next year not everyone will not have been vaccinated .
Lockdown only slow the spread so no I don't agree with further lockdown.
In December people want to go shopping/ hairdressers/ restaurants further lockdown during this busy period would be insane in my opinion.

bathsh3ba · 10/11/2020 16:53

@chocolatesaltyballs22 well, I'd join all the cars on the road that clearly aren't going to education, essential work or essential shopping. I'd have a couple of friends over, or see my family in a small group. Nothing especially controversial in a normal universe...
