To think the govt has no right to tell me who I'm allowed to have in my home?

HumanFemale1 · 08/11/2020 16:16

Anyone else feels the same? I just don't think this is OK. Govt making the rules of who I am allowed to have in my home or how many people I'm allowed to have in...

Especially when it's to keep a virus from spreading when the average death of a virus is higher than the life expectancy. But for any reason really. If the govt was making this rule for any other reason people would be horiffied.

Totally agree with you OP.

We can't let this continue.

JinglingHellsBells · 08/11/2020 18:47

@MarieInternette

jinglinghellsbells I don’t pose any risk to others if those who are too scared to go out stay in. And I’m speaking as someone who is classed as “vulnerable” and had the letter from the council etc. There is risk in everything. If you deem the risk too much re Covid stay at home, shop online. Let’s those of us who want to get on with our lives do so.
I'm banging my head against a wall here.

1 You don't know if you pose a risk. Around 70% of people with covid have no symptoms. So unless you get tested daily, you have no idea.

2 Why should people who recognise the risk but want to enjoy their lives, have to stay at home ? Why does what you want trump anyone else's needs? Why should we stay in and you carry on as normal? People like you carrying on as normal assuming you are 'no risk' are the reason we now have more infections.

If you obeyed the rules, the virus would be under control faster and everyone could carry on with their lives.

Wildswim · 08/11/2020 18:48

Those trying to stifle discussion are being incredibly immature.

so what's your answer?

Deaths rise?

Long Covid rises?

NHS buckles and cancer care can't be carried out?

Maybe you know best so do say.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 08/11/2020 18:49

Well I think you don't have any right to put everyone at risk, literally put certain peoples lives in danger with your actions by not being a socially responsible citizen and listening to guidance meant to slow down the spread of the virus...

ffsonly46 · 08/11/2020 18:49

Watch the early episodes of The Handmaid's Tale and reflect on the bit where June talks about "sleep walking" into the government's plan.

JinglingHellsBells · 08/11/2020 18:49

@Sostenueto

During a world pandemic Governments have a duty to protect it's citizens and they put in measures to do just that and although you have human rights they do not extend to putting other people in danger if illness and death.
Exactly.

This new lockdown has really made a lot of people show their true colours.

Me Me Me.

Whattheactual2020 · 08/11/2020 18:50

@ScribblingPixie What’s that about conversations you have in your own home?

EasterIssland · 08/11/2020 18:50

Don’t worry op ... whilst some of us haven’t seen our family because we’ve not been able to because borders have been close because the uk is in the state it’s ... you’re more than entitled to see your mum of course. You’re more important than some of us. Specially those who have died alone in hospitals because they have banned visitors.
The economy ? Who cares if shops have to close because people keep bending the rules ! Of course you seeing your mum is more important than those losing their jobs ...

Please carry on seeing your mum. Your life is more important than any others of this country

stovetopespresso · 08/11/2020 18:51

I really hope none of you deniers/rule breakers live near me.we are following the rules.

The government want us spending and socialising normally it really isn’t some overarching plan.

MPs voted for it and even then begrudgingly. But obviously could see why.

JinglingHellsBells · 08/11/2020 18:51

What I hate about these threads is the pseudo-superior tone of the rule breakers.

The implication that people following the rules are thick.
That we don't understand.
That we are sheep.

That we are not educated and intelligent people.

Manchester1990 · 08/11/2020 18:52

I couldn’t agree more

MarshaBradyo · 08/11/2020 18:52

When SD is no longer needed that is. There really is no one that cares that you see family at home after or before this.

LegArmpits · 08/11/2020 18:52

I completely agree Op. Worrying how people are so quick to conform.

DappledOliveGroves · 08/11/2020 18:52

I wish everyone who was so obsessed with staying alive at all costs would stay home, shut the windows and never cross their threshold. If you think staying alive at all costs is the most important thing on earth then quit your jobs if you can't work from home, sod the mortgage. If the be all and end all is immortality then surely it matters not if you lose jobs or lose the house. Meanwhile, let the rest of us get on with life.

Sure, if I live a long and prosperous life, that's great. But if I don't, then I doubt in 100 years time people will be weeping and wailing over my death. In the grand scheme of things, I'm irrelevant.

Life without liberty is not, IMO, real life. I don't think the measure of a successful life is simply living to 80+ years. Some people cram a wonderful life into a relatively short span. We don't know what's round the corner. A third to half of us will be diagnosed with cancer during our lives yet we don't see people renouncing red meat, alcohol or avoiding obesity. Pollution kills tens of thousands but cars aren't banned. Poverty and poor mental health kills millions, yet we don't campaign against it.

The NHS may be overwhelmed? It's been fucked for years and I would welcome a wholly new system since it's abundantly clear that our healthcare system, compared to the French, German, Swiss or Australian is a poor relation.

The world has faced pandemics, natural disasters and wars since time began. I'm damned if I should give up my liberty for something that cannot be controlled.

Baileyscheesecake · 08/11/2020 18:53

YABVVVVVU!!!! 😡

emilyfrost · 08/11/2020 18:53

Yep, YABVU. Of course the government has a right to tell you who you can have in your own home when it comes to an unprecedented pandemic and the need to save lives.

Stop being selfish. It’s okay because it’s necessary.

AlwaysLatte · 08/11/2020 18:54

And another one... Hmm

MSG92 · 08/11/2020 18:54

I was going to type a massive reply and decidedpeople on this post who agree with this *! @% don't deserve my time of day haha.

Go spread covid you intelligent beings :)

MarshaBradyo · 08/11/2020 18:55

@LegArmpits

I completely agree Op. Worrying how people are so quick to conform.
What’s your alternative?
BrumBoo · 08/11/2020 18:55

Meanwhile, let the rest of us get on with life.

I mean the irony of this statement in the fuller context. 'Let me go out and risk severely shortening my life, ah thats living'. It's like saying 'you're all welcome not to drive the wrong way down a motorway, you might as well not bother driving at all if you won't take a risk, but I will be!'.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 08/11/2020 18:56

@whattodo2019

Umm. Well, you carry on as usual, but don't go running to the NHS when you need some medical help!
This! The rules are there to protect you. Ffs.Hmm
