Would you allow your child to be tested by army personnel in school? What about vaccinated?

Would you expect them to need parental consent to do this to young children?

OP posts:
pinkyboots1 · 07/11/2020 09:40

I'm from that area and have absolutely no problem with my kids being tested by the forces... should it come to being vaccinated then once I've researched the vaccine and it's safety then I have no issue with that either. The forces have excellent Medical staff .. in fact the first Dr most forces kids have is an Forces one. On a side point my crazy teen daughter would prefer being injected by a soldier🙄

Sweettea1 · 07/11/2020 09:43

Where has this information came from am in Liverpool and heard nothing. If you want to take part in this rapid testing they got going on you go online an book appointment an there isn't even a covid vacs out yet so not sure why you think there giving them out.

Marmite27 · 07/11/2020 09:44

@EvilPea

The army did the first round of testing where I am, they set up and ran the drive through sites and we’re physically swabbing people.

I cannot think why you wouldn’t allow them?

Yes the year 10/11 girls are going to be hilarious aren’t they.

I’m thinking of Derry Girls, specificities Michelle Grin
Geekygeek · 07/11/2020 09:44

I’m in liverpool with two primary DCs. All testing is voluntary and you have to book online (separate system to the symptomatic testing one) and join a queue.

No in school testing that I’ve noticed at primary level . 😀

Hellomoonstar · 07/11/2020 09:49

I would want to give consent, so I could help prepare my dc for the test.

With the vaccine I would also like to help prepare dc to get emotionally ready for an adult to stick a needle in their arm. Dc1 is a very dramatic child and it helps a lot if we discuss it beforehand. Just like I did before all his other vaccinations after he got old enough to discuss. He is not old enough to give consent at 7.

CherryPavlova · 07/11/2020 09:53

People may not get much choice. Parents don’t necessarily need to consent. I’m sure they’ll be allowed to do so, in the event we ever get sufficient resources to test more widely, but do people not realise the legislative changes that have been sneaked through and the powers they confer?

Read the Coronavirus Act. Schedule 21 is around public health and rights of government agencies to act. I’m pretty sure it won’t come to that but there is a right to test and a right to remove to a place of isolation using force.

Itisasecret · 07/11/2020 09:55

I hope they do, it is the only way schools will stay open. Parents are deliberately avoiding testing children because they don’t want to isolate. Therefore bubbles with COVID exposure are staying open and then a couple of weeks later, the families are self isolating anyway because the parents are positive.

It’s no so coincidence that COVID cases have dropped across the board when the whole of England had half term staggered over a couple of weeks.

Teachers are being put at risk, I have a colleague who is seriously unwell. The government know this, which is why schools have lost a lot of staff this week to shielding.

Nootkah · 07/11/2020 09:56

@GalaxyCookieCrumble

In our Trust, just for a single vaccination (e.g. Flu) theres a half day training that anyone (admin, hca, housekeeping as well as HCP) can do to administer. There has to be a named HCP on site in case of complications, but it is true that anyone (with the half day training) is allowed.

Presumably there was more to your three year training than just vaccinating?

hetanom · 07/11/2020 09:57

Standard scare-mongering thread with no links to any evidence of the OP's claims.

Next!

loutypips · 07/11/2020 09:58

@Treesofwood

It's happening in Liverpool. Consent not needed (but you can opt out apparently). Every child given a barcode. Those who test positive "secured" whatever that means.
Source?
AlexaShutUp · 07/11/2020 10:00

If you can choose to opt out if you wish, I don't really see the issue?Confused

Fizbosshoes · 07/11/2020 10:02

A test is just a swab - I swabbed my child in a car at a drive- through and I’m in no way trained and only had a leaflet to go on.

Same here. Most of the people manning the drive through looked like students. We were given a diy kit with instructions and told to crack on with it. The only instruction they gave was where to park!

DenimDrift · 07/11/2020 10:03

I don’t see the issue either!!!

Fizbosshoes · 07/11/2020 10:05

I dont think there would be a mandatory vaccine without consent as many vaccines have allergens in them. Even the flu nasal spray requires vaccination.
However if there is the option to opt out that's essentially passive consent anyway inst it?

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/11/2020 10:05

Well I'd want the info and the chance to consent.

Covid shouldn't mean all basic rights are over ridden ffs the right to consent to treatment and testing is important.

I would not be happy about the ease at which they are taking away the right to consent to who touches you and who does what .

If testing was required I'd do it at home with my children. Or take them to a testing site myself.

I would not be happy with this on the basis of the fact that they seem it ok to do without consent .

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 07/11/2020 10:05

Unnecessarily dramatic and misleading post here. Why on earth not the army? There’s the option to opt out.

Fizbosshoes · 07/11/2020 10:06

Duh even the flu nasal spray requires consent

Duckwit · 07/11/2020 10:06

@Treesofwood I do love your threads!

Fizbosshoes · 07/11/2020 10:07

Well I'd want the info and the chance to consent.

Theres the option to opt out ie withdraw consent. ...so basically assuming consent unless you opt out

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/11/2020 10:12

Except its being done at schools? How easily would the email be lost amongst the " yr 7s are having pe Tuesday not Thursday this week please send in dressed accordingly" , " hot meals have been cancelled to day please ensure your child has a packed lunch" and " we are collecting for Mrs Smiths maternity leave gift" and every company you ever ordered from sending you their updated covid policy emails....

I would prefer an actual consent, not a "you reveive 50 emails a day so if you missed it we will assume you consented " set up.

Twinkie01 · 07/11/2020 10:13

I'm thinking of suing the NHS.

Cheeky fuckers gave me something or other which had to be administered intramuscular after having DD and they told DH just to jab it in my bottom or thigh and push the plunger!!!

Was there a course we could have sent him on previously for this very difficult job?? Could he put it on his CV?

😂

Twinkie01 · 07/11/2020 10:15

Is the army real?

In which way? Like unicorns and monsters?

This is really entertaining.

Wavingnotdrown1ng · 07/11/2020 10:19

The information received from my DC’s school in Liverpool last night is that the issue is ‘under discussion’ by head teachers and no decision has yet been made about using schools ( which are surely the most sensible place to test- note NOT vaccinate- children). Personally, I’d much rather DC had the test at school than be dragged to a test centre to queue after school in the cold and dark. Also, as other PPs have indicated, all schools must have a designated space for students to isolate them if they develop symptoms at school, while they wait to be collected by parents. The environment is ‘secure’ in that staff are wearing PPE and no one else can wander in - it’s certainly not a kiddy-prison.

ThePlantsitter · 07/11/2020 10:19

Having tested my 9 year old myself, I would let Genghis Khan do it if it meant I didn't have to tbh.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/11/2020 10:22

I have just seen a letter on Facebook that one of the schools has sent out and yes it does talk about barcodes and kids being ‘secured’. It’s basically just horrible phrasing that is making it sound dehumanising and scary.
Whoever composed the letter has fucked up imo- they have made perfectly normal organisational processes sound like something you wouldn’t want people to do to your kids.
