If you’re in Liverpool, why on earth would you get tested?

I just don’t understand why healthy people would get tested and encourage more lockdowns?

Anyone in Liverpool? What are people’s thoughts on this mass testing?

@Bunnybigears

Because it is for the greater good and will actually prevent mass lockdowns if asymptomatic people are aware they have it and can self isolate.
Isn’t that what we did at the lack lockdown? Everything was shut down for many mothers and we weren’t visiting families.
luckylavender · 06/11/2020 20:53

The whole premise of this thread makes me quite despondent that we'll never get out of this because people are very self centred.

HorsesDogsNails · 06/11/2020 20:53

My DS is a Uni student at LJMU and he is going to book a test because he wants to help. He's in his final year and has been pretty responsible since he went back as far as I know. We're 180 miles away in a (relatively) low transmission area. I'm proud of him!

Bollss · 06/11/2020 20:56

Anyone going “ I’m not getting tested cos I might not be able to work” when they might in fact be spreading to who knows how many other people is in essence selfishness.

It is selfish but then you have to be selfish sometimes to be able to pay your bills and feed your kids

Maldivesdream · 06/11/2020 21:04

I think what would shed more light would be for a person to have a Covid test and an antibody test at the SAME time!!

It would prove weather the Covid test is reliable and it would show weather the antibody test is accurate.

The whole thing is so God fam unorganised and it’s nobody’s business to be casting judgment if someone doesn’t want to participate in this shit show. Part of the conditions should be you will get paid from work if you have to isolate!

According to @AldiAisleofCrap they should struggle to pay the bills and go to the food bank instead Hmm
bravotango · 06/11/2020 21:08

@torquewench I also went to Garston Lifestyles for a test this afternoon - thought it was busy but well managed and seemed safe! Haven't had my resume yet though, 30 mins is impressive!

Yes! Some people here need to get lives of their own and develop hobbies.

I can well understand why some people wouldn't want to test if it's a choice between paying their rent or not. In that situation (which there'll be much more of this winter) you'd have to be crazy to get tested.

Inkpaperstars · 06/11/2020 21:14

They have been testing the testing haven't they? The moonshot test that was meant to give a quick result, but it missed fifty percent of positive cases.

Getting testing up to speed is one of the ways out of lockdown OP.

TheHoneyBadger · 06/11/2020 21:15

It's 2 weeks. How many people on here couldn't feed their kids for 2 weeks? It's over 3 weeks till payday anyway and the government payment for isolating will arrive before then.

I fear mn is using people who can't feed their children much like they use what about children who aren't safe at home.

I know plenty of people who are what mn would consider poor and they'd know how to feed their kids and prioritise what to pay this month and what to make a phonecall for explaining that payment would be delayed. Especially knowing a government payment is on it's way and next months universal credit will be higher.

The poor aren't stupid or incapable and thankfully not as immoral as mn makes out.

I think the difficulties would be those foreign workers with no right to state assistance. Citizens have access to support, delaying payments, an emergency loan from hmrc or dwp etc.

Best tell all the food banks they're wasting their time then hadn't you? Call Marcus rashford as well. Stop the press. Kids aren't starving.

Oh wait...

What foreign workers that don’t have access to state assistance? Everyone gets sap.
guitarstringseadgbe · 06/11/2020 21:18

Wow, yes very selfish of me to not want to get tested and get an asymptomatic positive result as this would mean not feeding my children, paying bills or keeping a roof over their heads. God how selfish am I ? Envy.

My husband is the main earner and is self employed. There would be no instant support out there to get us through 2 weeks of isolation. So no, we are not getting tested.

OP posts:
Inkpaperstars · 06/11/2020 21:18

We need to face the fact that not everyone is being selfish in order to pay bills or feed their kids. I am personally aware of multiple cases of people (not friends of mine!) being just plain selfish....people who had no financial pressures who refused to isolate because they, in the words of one of them 'couldn't be bothered'. In the case of the person quoted, her whole family got infected and friends she had seen who actually did have jobs and kids to consider ended up having to isolate.

ChloeCrocodile · 06/11/2020 21:19

I’m getting tested as part of this because I can and I’d rather try to help than sit back and criticise. Some people won’t be able to as they can’t afford to be off work. But I can do it so I feel I should.

Bollss · 06/11/2020 21:19

You know that it's not just people on UC that struggle? You know that only people on UC are entitled for the grant? Do you know how much sick pay is per week? Do you realise people's bills don't just go away because they're not getting paid?

And I have NEVER ever said people are immoral for not being able to feed their children. They are DESPERATE.

I have not insinuated that they are choosing not to feed their children. I am saying that losing two weeks pay is devastating for some families.

Open. Your. Fucking. Eyes.

guitarstringseadgbe · 06/11/2020 21:20

@TheHoneyBadger
Those are not the people who would suffer actually. We wouldn’t get any government handouts and no income if my husband had to stop work (self employed).

OP posts:
Inkpaperstars · 06/11/2020 21:21

OP, you better hope lots of others are getting tested and isolating then, to reduce the chances of you or DH getting an obvious symptomatic infection and being unable to work either because you feel too ill or because you are very clearly infectious to anyone who sees you.

guitarstringseadgbe · 06/11/2020 21:21

@TrustTheGeneGenie
Exactly my point. But you said it better than me!

And this is probably why the UK won't get C19 under any sort of control.

Dh has been tested twice and I've been tested once because we were asked to do mass testings in Aus, even without symptoms.

Zoecarter · 06/11/2020 21:23

Oh also me and my partner are self employed.

Bollss · 06/11/2020 21:25

Instead of complaining about other people - why not complain that the government aren't enabling people to do this? I think most people would be happy to get tested if they had assurance they would not lose income.

TheHoneyBadger · 06/11/2020 21:35

Fsm are for people with less than 7k a year. They don't have jobs so irrelevant to this conversation. If people on decent enough incomes to not qualify for any state help can't survive for 14 days then how do they cope when their breadwinner husband gets ill? Are you saying you'd be homeless if your husband got the flu one year?
