To be annoyed that school requests parents wear a mask.

School have requested parents a mask on drop offs and pick ups. I’m not anti mask and I will wear one but I’m annoyed.

It’s a rural school. With less than 100 children. Majority of children aged year 4 and up walk to school on their own or at very least walk into the school grounds on their own. I barely see anyone dropping Ds (10) off. Maybe 1 other parent from a distance. Don’t come into close contact with teachers as it’s all done outside anyway.

They also have staggered times. So people going in and out different times and one way system.

With Dd who’s younger I see the parents of the children in her bubble but we all social distance.

Barely come into contact with anyone.

School are saying it’s because parents often talk but what do they do expect us to not talk to each other? What’s the issue with people talking whilst social distancing?! I’d understand if parents were standing in groups but it’s not like that here. Most parents are rushing off to work and too busy to talk. Others drop their kids and walk off quick like me 🤣

But being made to wear masks in a huge outdoor open space with plenty of room to distance? Really necessary? Lots of open space around the school! I just don’t really understand!

I don’t come into close contact with anyone during the school run!

Is this all you have to mosn about? Pathetic really when so many people are losing jobs and businesses. Zoos like Twycross are having to face culling animals. You must be posting for a wind up.

ElliePhillips · 07/11/2020 18:22

My child's nursery has this rule. Not a big deal. I just get on with it.

Personally I'd much rather wear a mask for a few minutes a day than catch COVID-19 or unknowingly pass it on to someone.

pleasehelpwi3 · 07/11/2020 18:30

Primary teacher here. Don’t make me ill because you’re selfish.

namesnamesnamesnames · 07/11/2020 18:33

Rural school here too, we have worn masks since the start of term. No big deal.

Luddite26 · 07/11/2020 18:53

Oh yes, and, i forgot when i saw red reading OP's pathetic post - thousands of people are bloody dieing. I don't think i have ever seen such a waste of a thread on here.

annoyedofnorwich · 07/11/2020 18:59

Yes our school ask people to do this. Everyone does it apart from 1 dad, who was coughing and spluttering everywhere the week before half term. He makes no effort to distance, pushes past people, including (pre second lockdown) grandparents who are collecting their grandchildren. I think he's a twat to be honest. If he doesn't wear it for a good reason, he should make an effort to distance. Hardly a big ask for a few minutes a day.

Roo31 · 07/11/2020 19:01

Grow up and put a mask on.

Schmoozer · 07/11/2020 19:06

Omg !!!!!!
Wear your mask !!!! 😷

cozycat1 · 07/11/2020 19:07

I'm with you OP. Absolutely no need to wear a mask socially distancing in fresh rural air. You can sit 1m away from other households people in a tiny enclosed cafe and not wear a mask. Ridiculious rule. Cant believe the paranoia of some people. You will not be effectively killing people by not wearing one in such circumstances

What part of 'covid is highly contagious' do you not understand?

TrustTheGeneGenie
ah yes because a mask is going to make so much difference when op doesnt get anywhere close to other humans

@TrustTheGeneGenie
No single individual has the right to decide whether he or she is likely to pass covid to others.

Mask wearing when in an area with other people is a gesture that goes a long way to signal your acknowledgement that the virus is highly contagious and that you respect both the science behind the wearing of masks and the right of other people not to be infected by a potentially deadly virus.

In other words, it's a way to signal that you believe that other people matter as much as you, and there is such a thing as society, unlike the Dominic Cummingses of this world.

I don't know why anyone wouldn't seize the opportunity.

RaspberryCoulis · 07/11/2020 19:13

Come on @j101112, you're not trying to actually, you know, use your common sense are you? You should have worked out by now that's NOT ALLOWED on MN as far as Covid is concerned!

Complying isn't enough. You have to positively embrace mask wearing and be grateful just not be be dead.

3littlewords · 07/11/2020 19:14

Quite off subject here, but has anyone else noticed that there's some that claim to be exempt and the whole family is exempt somehow? Theres a few families at my DC primary and it doesn't matter which adult in the family does the pick up whether it be Mum Dad Gran or Grandad all are supposedly exempt? Is that normal for a whole family to be exempt?
I noticed before lockdown we went to an attraction centre where everyone over age 3 was expected to wear a mask yet there was whole families wearing exempt bands.

mathanxiety · 07/11/2020 19:15

You can sit 1m away from other households people in a tiny enclosed cafe and not wear a mask.

Not where I live you can't.

All of that ended last week. We have a one in ten (10%) positivity rate.

A state to the north has a 33% rate. That is one in three who test get a positive result.

How is is spread, you may ask?

Paranoia my bloody elbow.

mathanxiety · 07/11/2020 19:16

Common sense, aka, my personal opinion...

And you can absolutely 100% guarantee that can you (your last sentence).
heaveho · 07/11/2020 19:22

Just do it. My daughter has a cohort of 7 and we do... get over it

MistressIggi · 07/11/2020 19:26

I sit in a room with 30 teenagers and no masks most days. Doesn't mean I don't wear a mask to pick my own dc up at their school.

Mayra1367 · 07/11/2020 19:30

Wear the mask !

cozycat1 · 07/11/2020 20:00

Mathanxiety - well you can actually sit in a cafe in a 1m area. there are loads of them full near my local area, with queues of people outside waiting to get in. You have to wear a mask when you get up to go to toilet or pay. And we are in Level 3 area in Scotland.

I choose not to go into them due to what I think is a risk and there have Thats why I also avoid restaurants and pubs. I also don't i go on public transport at the moment, and wear a mask inside shops etc. and haven't been inside people's homes and haven't done since that rule came in for us here.

I do not think standing out in the fresh air 2m plus from someone for what might be 10 mins to pick up child from school presents a risk of spreading or catching Covid. Common sense really.

Sittingonthedockofthebay · 07/11/2020 20:08

Wear the mask. It's not about you.

Pleasesendcoffee · 07/11/2020 20:17

We’re in Portugal and all parents have been wearing a mask everyday for both drop offs & pick ups outdoors in a small school since 1st Sept. You’d totally be the odd one out if not wearing one. 100% compliance. We’ll do anything to keep everyone safe and our schools open here. What’s the big deal????

Retired65 · 07/11/2020 20:47

If you can't wear a mask why not wear a visor?

ExpatAl · 07/11/2020 20:53

Yes, YABU. Just wear it. A lot of people will die this winter from covid so stop being petty and wear the mask. It might not be so relevant for your school but generally it will help. Masks save lives.

Mammyloveswine · 07/11/2020 21:08

As a teacher I have to constantly ask parents to step back... half dont wear masks even though we ask them too!

I'm also subjected to coughing/poorly children dosed up on calpol who mid morning become unwell as we had no idea they were poorly..

I have seriously ill colleagues with covid at the moment...

Don't be a dick just wear your mask ffs.

justconcedealready · 07/11/2020 21:22

Yes!

I have noted, anecdotally, that the most difficult, frankly obnoxious, rude, entitled children in our primary school have parents and older teenage siblings who, without fail, refuse to wear a mask themselves. And they look incredibly smug, too, as they saunter in and out of the school and the local shops.

So incredibly irritating. And yet it explains so much about the poor attitudes of their children who we are constantly having to deal with behaviour-wise. One of them even told me that it was all a hoax because their mum told them so, but then the next day said their mum had had it twice, so was immune. Stories change daily, while they all continue to roam about maskless.
