Covid

To be annoyed that school requests parents wear a mask.

School have requested parents a mask on drop offs and pick ups. I’m not anti mask and I will wear one but I’m annoyed.

It’s a rural school. With less than 100 children. Majority of children aged year 4 and up walk to school on their own or at very least walk into the school grounds on their own. I barely see anyone dropping Ds (10) off. Maybe 1 other parent from a distance. Don’t come into close contact with teachers as it’s all done outside anyway.

They also have staggered times. So people going in and out different times and one way system.

With Dd who’s younger I see the parents of the children in her bubble but we all social distance.

Barely come into contact with anyone.

School are saying it’s because parents often talk but what do they do expect us to not talk to each other? What’s the issue with people talking whilst social distancing?! I’d understand if parents were standing in groups but it’s not like that here. Most parents are rushing off to work and too busy to talk. Others drop their kids and walk off quick like me 🤣

But being made to wear masks in a huge outdoor open space with plenty of room to distance? Really necessary? Lots of open space around the school! I just don’t really understand!

I don’t come into close contact with anyone during the school run!

It sounds like a similar set up to our junior school and our school have implemented the same. It's easier than highlighting individual who are too close and we do get bottleneck areas where 2 metres isn't possible. The teachers are also wearing masks for coming out with the children at pick up. I think most of us are quite happy with this if it means our children. Can be at school and the Teachers can be protected a little more.

The problem with talking is that droplets are aerosolised and projected out. Loud talking and singing are worse than quiet talking. Also length of time you are doing it. Social distancing isn't a 'magic' distance. If you project out enough droplets they can hang in the air and can go quite far. Yes, outside is less of a risk but they're probably just trying to be careful. You say there's hardly any cases in your area, maybe they want to keep it that way maybe? I can't really see what the problem is. No different to popping into a shop. I actually wore my scarf one when dropping dd off outside nursery yesterday because it was cold and there were a couple of other people there who looked like grandparents and one was wearing a mask, so I did out of politeness. When there's no one there, I don't always wear it because they haven't asked us to yet.

I’m shocked at the visors. In my city/ country they are no longer considered safe unless they are used as well as a mask (eg heath care).

We have have had 0 new cases in 8 days (population 5 million) so we are doing something right. N

I read these threads on mumsnet and the lack of expert guidance and information - and claims of ‘mask exemptions’ - it’s pretty obvious why the UK numbers are so high now.....

And we still wear masks here despite the fact Covid is pretty much eradicated here. I think our whole city acknowledges that we have a lot to lose and it’s a small inconvenience on in the scheme of things. I have never heard of people claiming to be ‘exempt’ If I feel claustrophobic I take a break in fresh air and pull the mask down. I would hate to make someone else unwell because I don’t want to be inconvenienced by a mask!

No way teachers here would get away with visors as they are not ‘fitted face coverings’.

My DC’s school have been doing this since JUNE. Really don’t get why people are complaining about this!

Not another one of these threads! If you're in a small, rural area, all the more reason to wear one for the one time you need to get together in a group. Just wear the mask and be grateful you've got a chance to keep your numbers small and your schools open.

My DC school have been doing this since September, the teachers wear visors too. Its no big deal tbh. You've got 2 choices such it and wear the mask for 5 mins twice a day or home school your dc and avoid school altogether. Its not a big ask of parents in reality is it

You don't get close to, or speak to others, but some parents might.
The rule applies to everyone.

Its a mask, for a few minutes a day. This is a truly first world problem. Wear the mask and suck it up.

If there's a chance it helps one person then surely its worth it.🙄

Protect others and set an example. Put your mask on if you’re able.

For godness sake grow up. This is one of those ridiculous, entitled posts. Wear a mask and get a life.?

My primary school aged child is high risk ie has a rare condition. Another young child with my child’s rare condition died of covid. School is essential, as are all the ways we can minimise risk to all staff, children and families. Wear the mask, it’s a very small thing to do.

Just wear the mask! If all the parents do so the school won't need to waste time to police parents behaviour. It's not a big deal.

Don’t argue or overthink it, just do it 🤦‍♀️

Just do it, it’s no big deal in the grand scheme of things. It’s about the kids and teachers staying safe and the schools open, not parents’ social life

You need to wear a mask, get over it, it really isn’t that big a deal!

Our school is the same. It's new government advice, clearly. I don't see a problem. Clearly just something for the "poor oppressed me" contingent to moan about again. It's a couple of minutes a day, just get a grip 🙄

I’ve worn a mask at my child’s school since mid September, never had a problem, we have staggered times too but there is always that parent that is late in dropping off & collecting or goes in/out the wrong way, it’s literally for a few minutes a day! I can’t see the problem at all!
