To be annoyed that school requests parents wear a mask.

School have requested parents a mask on drop offs and pick ups. I’m not anti mask and I will wear one but I’m annoyed.

It’s a rural school. With less than 100 children. Majority of children aged year 4 and up walk to school on their own or at very least walk into the school grounds on their own. I barely see anyone dropping Ds (10) off. Maybe 1 other parent from a distance. Don’t come into close contact with teachers as it’s all done outside anyway.

They also have staggered times. So people going in and out different times and one way system.

With Dd who’s younger I see the parents of the children in her bubble but we all social distance.

Barely come into contact with anyone.

School are saying it’s because parents often talk but what do they do expect us to not talk to each other? What’s the issue with people talking whilst social distancing?! I’d understand if parents were standing in groups but it’s not like that here. Most parents are rushing off to work and too busy to talk. Others drop their kids and walk off quick like me 🤣

But being made to wear masks in a huge outdoor open space with plenty of room to distance? Really necessary? Lots of open space around the school! I just don’t really understand!

I don’t come into close contact with anyone during the school run!

I’m in the US. My kids have been out of school since March and won’t go back until January at the latest. Wear the fucking mask and thank your lucky stars the new lockdown doesn’t include school closures.

Your school sounds like mine, OP....Are you in SE England?

Annoyed here. Head had a visor on today at the gate. I feel that if school asks parents to mask up, she needs to be wearing something actually shown to be effective.
If she can't do a mask, she can't do the gate, imho.

We have also been asked by the school to wear a mask at drop offs and pick ups. The amount of parents I see not wearing masks is significant...they can't all be exempt.

I can't believe people would ignore the rules that the school have asked them to follow. You are being very unreasonable.

Have some respect for the rules and wear a mask.

I've driven a car for 28 years and never hafa crash. Reakon it's pointless wearing a belt.

It's kind of like saying "why should I have to wear a seat-belt when I'm driving on dark empty country roads at night?"
Yes, you 95% don't need it, but for the 5% risk of something unexpected occurring - just wear it.

I've yet to see a school entrance where all the parents/carers were social distancing.

Why wear a seatbelt if your car has brakes? Don’t use child seats in your car, because it has brakes and kids bones bend rather than break. 😌 that’s what you types sound like. Fucking wise up, jfc.

I'm in spain and we have to wear masks at all times outside the home. If I am wfh I walk ds to bus stop, we dont see anyone and our masks are in my pocket. When the bus comes we put them on and he then has to wear his for the next 6/7 hours including break and pe. I dont necessarily agree with all this but I am perfectly able to put a mask on when in a more populated area.

OP, I think you need to have a bit of consideration for anyone who is having to put themselves out there in this shite situation and do the one tiny thing you can to show that you appreciate what they're doing and that you'll do what you can to protect them. Ugh.

I cannot believe someone would be so selfish. Wear a mask and ensure that your children’s school stays open. No cases in your school now doesn’t mean that the risk isn’t there.

I really hope this is a tongue in cheek comment. I’ve driven a car for 35 years and been in two accidents, one over 20 years ago where a car pulled out of a junction and ploughed into my car driving it into a wall and the second one this January when my car acquaplaned and crashed into a ditch at the other side of the road. The car was written off on both occasions but I walked out of both crashes with relatively minor injuries thanks to my seatbelt.

As said before, they'll be following guidance given. They don't just pluck ideas from the sky. Wear the mask and no, you shouldn't be stopping to chat. My kids school is the same. If you want to chat, go for a walk with one of them or text them. No longer having to stop and chat is a dream for me though! I work in a school. Its incredibly difficult at the moment, stressful and worrying. I have to wear PPE for the entire school day, sometimes full PPE. It's a bugger but it's the rules and they're there for a reason. Just crack on like the rest of us.

Whilst your school may have minimal contact due to the location etc lots of school's aren't like that. And I can see why you would find it unnecessary but it's five minutes, not going to hurt really.

We have a local school with escalating cases and as much as the staff reinforce the need to distance etc they end up with gaggles of parents who congregate immediately outside the gates who are far to close, not wearing masks etc. So many of them get aggressive to the staff screaming conspiracy theories and all sorts. When in fact the school are literally enforcing the rules handed down to them.

They have had issues with the same parents sending unwell children into the school with symptoms, they send the child home, next day parent dumps the child back at school and refuses to collect them.......

Wear a mask. Stop being awkward. Show some solidarity.

Report
Bollss · 07/11/2020 08:14

Solidarity? That's got to be a joke hasn't it? I don't think people have ever felt less close to people than they do now. I wouldn't want to show solidarity with people who say "just wear the fucking mask" and think people should have to whip out their full medical history every time someone asks.

I don’t wear one at the school. I see my daughter across the road With me remaining on the opposite side of the school and then she goes straight in. On pick up I only get out the car when i see them
Coming out and stand opposite side of the school away from everybody.

Appreciate not everyone’s got this set up but i come into contact with nobody.

Yes a visor is less effective, but the Head was wearing it because the Department for Education advises that teachers shouldn't wear masks because they interfere with teaching. Think about that for a minute....

Yes all the teachers at drop off are wearing visors, not masks at my dcs school. Parent wear masks. Teachers are doing such a tough job right now, it's not their decision...just go along with it. If you're exempt, don't wear it. If you can, then do it.
