The second lockdown and furlough until March..and then what?
We’ll have no jobs left, why is no one opposing this, before it’s too late?!
What will become of us all

OP posts:
Cheeseboardandmincepies · 06/11/2020 12:11

Hmm people are opposing it, maybe research before posting a mass hysteria post?

Christmasiscoming77 · 06/11/2020 12:19

@Cheeseboardandmincepies Not very strongly though, are they?
It wasn’t meant to mass hysteria, I apologise, I’m just surprised my the passiveness, surely this is of huge importance.

ForTheLoveOfCatFood · 06/11/2020 12:25

What do you want to happen instead?

Funkypolar · 06/11/2020 12:26

Unemployment is predicted to be 13.2% next year, that’s 4 million people. We are in for a bumpy ride.

Lockheart · 06/11/2020 12:28

Do you not watch the news? Business leaders have been condemning it, MPs have been disagreeing, there were protests last night...

What more do you want, rioting and mass civil unrest?

midgebabe · 06/11/2020 12:28

Better than when/where I grew up then. So clearly whilst aweful, the world will still keep turning, life will get better over time, and then worse , and then better

yelyah22 · 06/11/2020 12:34

To be fair, furlough is designed to keep jobs - so I'm not sure it's true 'we'll have no jobs left'.

People ARE opposing it - there was a huge March in London last night.

sst1234 · 06/11/2020 12:34

It’s not mass hysteria at all. Anyone who thinks it needs to get their head out of the sand. This lockdown is total madness. More people will die from late treatment of other diseases, reduction in standard of living due to a smaller economy - than the virus itself.
Then theres the secondary impact of a reduction in quality of life. International travel will regress because it will become slower and more than expensive, education standards will drop as result of people not being able to move around easily, a generation of kids will be given grades that are worthless, sporting achievement will be static.
If anyone is not opposing this, they are asleep or just dense.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/11/2020 12:39

What are YOU doing about it?

What do YOU suggest instead?

Stop with the drama.
Post in the Corona Virus topic.

Do some research before posting utter nonsense. FFS

Have to agree

Whats the phrase.... ‘be the change you want to see’

I get a bit pissed off with the ‘why is no one doing A, B or C’ complaining

ilovesooty · 06/11/2020 12:44

So how do you think we can prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed?

longwayoff · 06/11/2020 12:45

The Daily Mail and its mates are busy promoting views such as yours, pop over there and add your goading to the rest. You'll find your people there.

IDontMindMarmite · 06/11/2020 12:47

Could you imagine what would happen if they stopped the furlough scheme? THAT would put people out of jobs. The gov aren't doing this for fun! No one wants to close the economy. Maybe you should run an election campaign for yourself seeing as you think you know better than those with expert advisors.

SmudgeButt · 06/11/2020 12:48

Hmm what to do??

We can be cold, hungry and unemployed.
OR
We can ignore the problem and ignore the lockdown and be dead.

sorry - what was the question again??

pizzamummy · 06/11/2020 12:48

People are waking up. Some Businesses are continuing to stay open and are challenging the guidelines as it's unlawful. There was a mass protest around London yesterday. I agree more needs to be done. My friend lost her job as soon as furlough ended and this was a day before Rishi announced the extension. So no, furlough isn't there to save jobs, people will lose jobs as soon as it ends. I agree op, more needs to be done.

CoffeeNights · 06/11/2020 12:49

I haven't seen the news today so apologise in advance...so furlough until march. So that says to me restrictions will be until at least march, but has that explicitly been said? Lockdown until.march?

Moondust001 · 06/11/2020 12:49

If you actually believe that furlough will save jobs, would you message me, as I have some -swamp- prime land to sell you.
peachescariad · 06/11/2020 12:50

Yawn.......

Userzzz · 06/11/2020 12:51

All part of the plan to ruin the worlds economy. Question is: why? None of this makes sense.

Mischance · 06/11/2020 12:51

I do not think people are passive. They are trying to do the right thing to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed and more deaths. That is not passive - that is actively abiding by the rules that are for the benefit of all.

It is the fact that the rules are always too little too late that we should be worrying about.

MsPeachh · 06/11/2020 12:53

Hmm I think I'd rather take my chances than be cold, hungry and unemployed to be honest...
Bluntness100 · 06/11/2020 12:53

It’s not quite what it looks like op

Many businesses have remained open through this lock down and it’s fairly certain back to tiers on 2 dec. furlough naturally tapers as businesses are open and running at capacity. So it’s used for hospitality, travel and sectors forced to close

Ultimately if you can protect sectors such as travel till March you cost the economy far less than if those companies all shut down and staff made redundant

Yes there are companies who will use it to stay afloat even though they will shut when it ends, but they will be in the minority, most will either just shut now or it will be a life line to keep them open until we are back to normal Ie the travel industry

PurplePIG1 · 06/11/2020 12:54

Yanbu, the consequences of locking down will be far worse than the virus.

Maybe you missed the bit where Covid death rate is less than 1%. So your second statement is beyond hysterical.
Notspecialflake · 06/11/2020 12:57

Agree 100% OP. The problem is it's now not PC to say it really as people scream about all the deaths that will possibly occur and play down the long term consequences or say it's money over lives. These people are blind to the real devastating outcomes of lockdown which are a lot worse than accepting that perhaps some mainly elderly people will die from this virus.
