The second lockdown and furlough until March..and then what?
We’ll have no jobs left, why is no one opposing this, before it’s too late?!
What will become of us all

OP posts:

@GertiMJN It really would need to come down to not being able to treat the oldest in hosp and giving care in a nursing home under GP. Sounds awful, yes. But the current situation means younger people with treatable conditions won't get beds/ treatment for treatable conditons as they want to keep beds for the expected Covid patients - who are often extremely old. They don't want to literally turn people away from hospital but the current situation is just more indirect version of the same thing and it's more invisible. So many over 75s needing beds that the 50 year olds cancer patient doesn't get a bed. We need to wake up and be practical - as awful as it sounds.

stovetopespresso · 06/11/2020 13:35

op this virus is very inconsiderate isn't it maybe try having a chat with it and asking what its schedule is

romeolovedjulliet · 06/11/2020 13:36

yet another scare mongering thread, thanks for that op.

sst1234 · 06/11/2020 13:36

More than £100 billion spent on govt support schemes, sorry taxpayer support schemes this year. Could be easily be re directed to NHS. China can build a hospital in a week, it’s not magic.

MaxNormal · 06/11/2020 13:36

We can ignore the problem and ignore the lockdown and be dead.

What, all of us? Seems unlikely.

BaronessEllaSaturday · 06/11/2020 13:37

So just let covid run wild? Do you truly think that protects the economy? Problem is that the economy needs people to spend and even without the lockdown we have cut back seriously on our shopping trips because we don't trust the measures currently in place, there are other issues that hurt the economy too and not having any confidence in the way things will be in the future is one of the big ones. We are still working, still earning but our savings have increased. With a vulnerable member in the household I will take care, I will keep my distance and with covid figures they way they are locally that means I'm staying home, no buying coffee and cake on shopping trips out, not impulse buys on shopping trips. That isn't because of lockdown that is because I don't feel confident.

BefuddledPerson · 06/11/2020 13:38

@ForTheLoveOfCatFood

What do you want to happen instead?
Yes this. UK was stupid to try to scrap furlough so early, we were clearly at risk of needing it through winter.
Calmate · 06/11/2020 13:38

Funkypolar There's going to be a new world order, which is despairingly near. Find your faith everyone.

StrippedFridge · 06/11/2020 13:39

I think people are afraid to be seen to be rejecting lockdown for now. I think it is rapidly changing. I am worried that Labour are trying to make it binary political: heavy lockdown will fix everything and anyone who objects is a moron or hates the old.

Who is the royal ‘we’? Most people are not spending because of the lockdown, not because of fear, spending figures from Q3 show this.
Bakeachocolatecaketoday · 06/11/2020 13:39

I has ever been thus though - you bumble along for a while then something happens and the economy tanks and people end up out of work.

I happens on average (to a greater or lesser extent) every 10 years.

Wars, civil unrest, economic issues, major terrorism, Mass strikes....

It's ebb and flow. It's relatively unusual to have nearly full employment as we did for the last couple of years.

Yeah you're right, would you choose your mum or your dad? Auntie or uncle?
yellowmaoampinball · 06/11/2020 13:41

People who have different opinions to you are not stupid, dense, asleep or sheep sst. Particularly over a situation as new and potentially serious as a pandemic.

Op, if you think there should be protests or rebellion or whatever, go out and do it yourself. Don't assume others aren't because they're asleep or stupid or passive or whatever.

BaronessEllaSaturday · 06/11/2020 13:41

Who is the royal ‘we’?

that we was my household, nothing royal about it but there's more than one adult here so I tend to use the plural

Xenia · 06/11/2020 13:42

We have sleep walked into a police state.

Coffeeandcocopops · 06/11/2020 13:44

@Xenia

We have sleep walked into a police state.
I’m starting to believe that. But why would the tuning classes want a police state - who gains. I know the top wealthy %age of the population are seeing their wealth increasing during Covid,
Coffeeandcocopops · 06/11/2020 13:44

Ruling class.

Mintjulia · 06/11/2020 13:46

To those thinking furlough is a gift and 80% is too generous. I was furloughed Apr - July, made redundant in August, yet to receive any UC, have applied for upwards of 80 jobs so far, 9 interviews,

1 verbal offer - budget then withdrawn
Come second twice
Two other rejections
One process underway - 3rd interview next week
One process - 2nd interview next week
75 applications completely ignored.

Have another 5 to apply for today.

So anyone criticising furlough as being too generous, or thinking it's just a jolly nice holiday, think again.

loobyloo1234 · 06/11/2020 13:46

There was a march against lockdown last night OP. Did you go to it just out of interest?

ilovesooty · 06/11/2020 13:48

@annabel85

Do what about it?

It's an awful situation, but there's no easy answers, is there?

Even with all the restrictions, hospitals in major city areas are already on the brink, hundreds dying every day, thousands hospitalised.

Birmingham hospitals have cancelled all planned procedures. The rate of hospital admissions has to be brought down.
Isolatedizzy · 06/11/2020 13:51

Surely it's the furlough scheme that's been extended to March!
Which means that people can go on it or off depending on us being in lockdown or not, what area you are in and what tier level you are in.
I think it's to avoid the cut off like we just had of 31 October when people lost their jobs because the Chancellor hadn't extended it.
I don't think it's just everyone furloughed until March! Confused

VinylDetective · 06/11/2020 13:52

We could stop making decisions based on inflated figures, for a start.

Patients aren't admitted to intensive care units on the basis of figures. They're admitted on the basis of medical need.

The experts presented the government - and in turn us - with inflated figures on Saturday. Johnson was steamrollered into lockdown using those figures as evidence. Fuck all to do with admissions to ITU.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/11/2020 13:54

@Calmandmeasured1

Even if everyone was destitute (they won't be) we will always recover and rebuild.
Oh because it's that easy isn't it?

Weren't about 100 people arrested?
Legooo · 06/11/2020 13:59

More people will die from late treatment of other diseases

I’d love to know, when people post this, what do they actually want to happen.

Because I can tell you for a fact, letting the virus rip through the population is a guaranteed way to stop all other treatments dead.

Including emergency ones. So good luck if your kid gets appendicitis or if you have a car crash...

Why do the posters who keep spouting this line as an against for any restrictions think that would be a grand idea?
