To refuse to wear a face mask

Outside my daughters primary school as I wait for her after school?
I was asked to wear one today as I stood outside the gate so my daughter in year 6 could see me and leave her teacher.
It's not an enclosed space, not even inside the school gate.
So who is being unreasonable? The school with this ridiculous request, or me?

If it's a choice between wearing a mask for 2 minutes versus the school closing or changing to ridiculous phased finishing times Id rather just wear the bloody mask 🤷‍♀️

Pick your battles in life OP - and this isn't one of them

Yesmate · 05/11/2020 18:36

My sons school do this, parents and kids. I don’t like it, it’s not in line with the current guidance and is annoying. I do it though because it’s not a drama to pop a mask on for the 2 minutes I am dropping him off and picking him up

DaddysGirlForLife · 05/11/2020 18:37

You! You are still next to people going in and out I assume?

Ylvamoon · 05/11/2020 18:37

I thought it's common sense and curtesy to wear one in a place with lots of people close together.

I don't think you can guarantee 2m distance outside school gates.

BeeFarseer · 05/11/2020 18:38

I hate this attitude.

You have been asked to wear a mask. If you can, why wouldn't you?

I wear one to pick up my DC from school. We were all asked to do so by the school, but I was wearing one anyway because it doesn't bother me to do so.

A parent at my child’s school doesn’t wear a mask AND brings her dog in to school each day.
Emails have gone out about both but she either doesn’t read them or doesn’t care.

ShowingOut · 05/11/2020 18:39

Of course you are not being unreasonable!! You are a special snowdrop and must not put on a fricking mask for two fricking minutes in order to comply with the poor fricking teacher's request.

Go you!

NerrSnerr · 05/11/2020 18:39

Just wear the mask. The schools are doing their best to keep their pupils safe and so many parents are being awkward just for the sake of it.

Butmiss · 05/11/2020 18:39

Our school have just asked parents to wear face coverings. Some parents are huddling together and having chats, which isn't reassuring at all. Some are coming up and trying to talk to us when they have been told all conversations cannot be had in person. Some are swearing and shouting at us for following this rule, which is nice.
YABU, you have to wear one in most places anyway. It makes next to no difference if you have to wear one for five minutes when you collect your child. Such a non-problem. Hmm

Brighterthansunflowers · 05/11/2020 18:39

YABU

Unless you’re exempt for genuine reasons then just wearing a bloody mask for 10 minutes

What is your actual objection other than “but they can’t make me so there”?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/11/2020 18:40

Suck it up princess and put your mask on. All schools are asking this now. Don’t be a knob over it. Be glad your kids are in school.

StripeyDeckchair · 05/11/2020 18:41

YABVVVVU
What kind of example are you setting to the kids? That rules don't apply to you if you don't like them.

SoupDragon · 05/11/2020 18:41

@gindinner

But what if someone is just walking by the school, to get to their house near the school? That is where I am, outside the school
Is walking past the same as standing still waiting?
Applebloss0m · 05/11/2020 18:41

I wear mine from the car until I get back into the car. That involves a walk outside the school grounds but I think that’s sensible as other parents/grandparents are using the same routes up to the school site itself.

I wear my mask to protect others. You should too.

thistimelastweek · 05/11/2020 18:42

As a good friend said, if you don't like wearing a mask, you won't like wearing a ventilator.

ThirstyGhost · 05/11/2020 18:43

We've been asked to start doing this. It's fine. Hardly a bother is it.

friendlycat · 05/11/2020 18:43

Just do what is being asked of you.

isitsnowingyet · 05/11/2020 18:43

Get over yourself and pop a mask on.

No biggie.

Calligraphy572 · 05/11/2020 18:44

You.

Totp · 05/11/2020 18:45

Oh just put it on
It’s to stop everyone chatting/congregating
It’s 2 minutes of your day

Thewiseoneincognito · 05/11/2020 18:45

@gindinner you OP. just put on a mask and stop whinging. The school are asking you to do this to protect yourself, those around you, the children and the school staff. What exactly do you want us to say? There are rules and guidelines we are all being asked to follow, what is it that bothers you so much about it?

Instead you’re Acting like a spoilt brat spitting your dummy out because someone asked you to be aware of others during a pandemic. 🙄

I feel for your poor kids is all I can say!

ilovesooty · 05/11/2020 18:46

@Viviennemary

Who cares. Do what you like.
She obviously will anyway.

Why, why, why must people argue with every single thing? Just do it. Anything that helps stop the spread of this disease is worth it.
