Do you think lockdown will be extended after 4 weeks?

I know nobody actually knows, I'm just interested in other opinions and thoughts. I'm hopeful it will be just 4 weeks as being a small buisness owner it's so hard having to close and cancel/reschedule bookings. I know lots of people are struggling in different ways with lockdown also.

I think it will end on 2nd but most places will go into tier 3, only small areas into tier 2, i can't see anyone being tier 1.

SunbathingDragon · 05/11/2020 12:19

I think we will be very restricted, if not lockdowned, between now and Easter with a reprieve over Christmas for about a fortnight.

PatchworkElmer · 05/11/2020 12:19

People don’t seem to be taking it seriously this time, so I’m not sure how effective an extension would be.

The furlough extension until March would indicate that they see this being a long haul scenario again though.

Applebloss0m · 05/11/2020 12:19

Based on the facts that hospital admissions are higher than before the first lock down and that children are still at school I would say things may be a little scarier in a few weeks. I think the lockdown will continue. Perhaps shops etc opening? And then a brief opening for socialising (sensibly) over Christmas. I think strict restrictions until Spring in reality

Feelinglost006 · 05/11/2020 12:25

Think it will be a move to tier 3 . Schools to break up early which would allow parents to isolate for 2 weeks before getting granny over for Turkey if ppl are worried about the virus but insisting on having family round. That could work if whole families were on the same page about it. Another lockdown in new year as infections will rocket again as a result of Xmas and new year

tortoiseshell1985 · 05/11/2020 12:26

Yes, definitely extended

ShellsAndSunrises · 05/11/2020 12:28

I thought we’d come out of lockdown into tier 3 in most places, but furlough until March makes me wonder, given the regional plan was already in place...

GabsAlot · 05/11/2020 12:28

i reckon so with annother vote of course-the tube and trains were still packed this morning i dont think people are taking it as seriously this time

peboh · 05/11/2020 12:28

Yes. I think we'll in lockdown until the new year at least. Given that they're saying how bad the virus is getting again, they'd be idiots to stop lockdown over the festive period. Also think of the fine money they could get over Christmas and new year. Well be stuck here for a while.

MrsJonesAndMe · 05/11/2020 12:33

I have no idea. I can't see the 4 weeks with schools open making enough of a difference.

If I had to wager: I think the secondary schools will go remote for the last 2 weeks before Christmas and shops/hospitality reopen.

Kljnmw3459 · 05/11/2020 12:40

I don't think so, people won't adhere to too many restrictions before the Christmas season. It's important for economy too. We're probably due another lockdown Jan-Feb instead.

MarshaBradyo · 05/11/2020 12:44

No idea but furlough had just been extended again, until March

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 05/11/2020 12:51

Yes given schools are open, furlough extended, shielding restarted and the sheer number who aren’t complying and doing non essential mixing.

January will be awful if they let everyone mix over Christmas, unless there was a really strict 2/3 weeks beforehand but even then many people won’t comply.

IrkedEssex · 05/11/2020 12:54

The legislation only covers four weeks, and the old 3 tier legislation has been repealed. They must be planning to re-vamp the tier system somehow, otherwise why bother to repeal it? In theory they could put in a tier that is essentially this lockdown (or worse...) and then put us all in that, whilst trumpeting the fact that Boris kept his promise.

MarshaBradyo · 05/11/2020 12:55

It will have to be voted on again if extended. Although it did get a strong majority.

dollychopss · 05/11/2020 12:56

No

The lockdowns are worse than covid suicides up and many more ...

We will go back to tiered system

dollychopss · 05/11/2020 12:57

@MayFayre

Today’s announcement that the furlough scheme has been extended to March isn’t a good sign.
It was going all the way even in the summer and wd was not on lockdown
cologne4711 · 05/11/2020 12:59

Yes. It may also be because when they redo the tier system they don't want more arguments like they had with financial support for Greater Manchester, they just want to be able to move areas in and out of tiers.

cologne4711 · 05/11/2020 13:00

As for December, I think non-essential retail and leisure will reopen but not hospitality, because what's the point of encouraging drunken Christmas parties?

Also agree secondary schools might close to face to face a week or so early and maybe open a week late in January.

There will be no pubs /restaurants left if they carry on
PanamaPattie · 05/11/2020 13:02

Yes. Intermittent lockdowns until at least April next year.

MiaMarshmallows · 05/11/2020 13:05

I think if Boris extends it, he knows he will never be voted back in and that there will be a great lack of compliance. People will meet on Christmas day whether they are 'allowed' to or not. Personally, I do not care either way as happy in my work and being at home but realistically, I can't see it being extended.

Heatheronthehill · 05/11/2020 13:07

This is so utterly depressing and bleak Sad

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 05/11/2020 13:09

Think go back to the Tier system..wherever that go back to how it was or different restrictions. I cant see them extending it through Christmas. To much trade lost especially for resturants. We lost a few independent ones last time be shame to lose more

janaus50s · 05/11/2020 13:11

Our Lockdown in Melbourne lasted for 15 weeks.
