FFS just because you CAN go to 'The Range' doesn't mean you should

Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

Google is not shut down as part of lockdown. It can still be visited and used.

HitchikersGuide · 06/11/2020 10:06

Each to their own. It would be a more pleasant world if people stopped trying to police others' behaviour.

As can The Range ...

PurpleDaisies · 06/11/2020 10:15

Can someone tell me what the Range is?

Wink

Maybe the new “cancel the cheque”?

RaspberryCoulis · 06/11/2020 10:17

I love the "What is the Range" people - clear subtext is "If it's not harrods or fortnums how on earth am i supposed to know where the proles shop"?

According to their website, they have 180 stores from Inverness to Penzance. Across Wales and both parts of Ireland. And guess what? Their website is therange.co.uk - who'd have thunk it?

TheKeatingFive · 06/11/2020 10:29

I think I misunderstood a comment. Sorry. Blush

TheGreatWave · 06/11/2020 10:59

I'm a bit "meh" about The Range, it's alright, pet department not bad and some nice bits and pieces but not somewhere I would necessarily just go to for a mooch.

fififorgetmenotforgot68 · 06/11/2020 12:11

Torri67...I have enough of the government telling me what I can and can't do ! You come on here telling people what they should do..What fucking cheek !! Now jog on and do one !

Yawn yawn boring boring

MercyBooth · 06/11/2020 16:10

Boots aren't furloughing their beauty staff so they can get sales from people going in for healthcare items. Totally irresponsible as make up is far from essential (especially when you can't go out anyway!). I agree with OP, people are being selfish. It's not a lot to ask to just stay at home. What must people who lived through the war think of these people moaning about their "hardships

Well @SophieGiroux Im guessing they would tell you that lipstick wasnt rationed during the war to boost morale.

frozendaisy · 06/11/2020 16:20

So elderly relative, has a birthday next week, they live alone, so now are birthday cards sent through the post an "essential"?

Some would say No!
Some would say that their well-being getting a card is worth the vanishingly small risk we have just taken purchasing.

Shop was open, reduced staff but some staff still at work being paid, local, no risk of being in a car accident as we were on foot.

MajesticWhine · 06/11/2020 16:22

If a shop is open then people are not out of order for going there. Saying they are is just adding made up rules to the existing rules.
( I must add I have never been to the Range Grin)

PurpleDaisies · 06/11/2020 16:25

But do you know what the Range is @MajesticWhine? Grin

MajesticWhine · 06/11/2020 16:33

I must confess I am aware of this establishment, so not being a snob we just don't have one round here Grin

OP i agree with you, and when we do get locked down for even longer over Christmas it's all the type of people posting on here that will be whinging about it being the government's fault!!!

Are you saying that people shopping in shops which are legally allowed to remain open - and which will have taken measures to ensure 'safety' - are going to cause another 'lockdown'?
MercyBooth · 06/11/2020 17:25

Boots stores have seen a big loss. Id really rather our Boots didnt close as that is where DH gets his regular prescriptions and trying to move it will be a right ball ache as our surgery is Virgin Care who can be a PITA. So IF i decide to do any Christmas shopping it will probably be there.

wewillmeetagain · 06/11/2020 17:46

@IcedPurple no I'm saying that certain retailers are bending the rules and using spurious reasons to class themselves as essential so they can stay open! People who class going to the range and buying Christmas decorations as essential are exactly the same sort of imbeciles that will be moaning about how unfair it is when we are still on an even harsher lockdown in January!

IcedPurple · 06/11/2020 17:52

Right.

So you are in fact saying that "imbeciles" who are shopping in shops which are legallly allowed to stay open are going to cause another lockdown.

Can you provide evidence for all of us 'imbeciles' that shopping for 'non-essential' items contributes significantly to the spread of the virus? Because if you can, you'll be doing something nobody else has been able to do.

OverTheRainbow88 · 06/11/2020 17:56

I had a lovely potter around the garden centre today, got lots of Christmas decorations, presents, food, plants and a take away cup of tea. Didn’t come within 6m of anyone else who were all wearing masks.

wewillmeetagain · 06/11/2020 18:07

@IcedPurple well it stands to reason that the more people going out for non essential reasons the more spread of covid there will be!!! The whole idea of lockdown is to stay at home if possible, shops like the range slip through the net of being essential because they sell food! Well actually junk food and sweets mainly, maybe if all you people who think it's perfectly fine just to nip out constantly for non essentials had actually seen someone die of covid and listened to their gasping for breath you might not be so flippant about it!!!

LizzieAnt · 06/11/2020 18:09

It has to be evidence from the UK don't forget!
I mentioned an American study upthread that found a shopping-related Covid risk, but it didn't count as it wasn't UK based apparently.
If I was being mean I'd say that some people don't want to look at any evidence that doesn't fit their own particular narrative Grin

Ihaveyourback · 06/11/2020 18:09

wewill Do you really have to be so ignorant? You have no idea clearly the massive impact the lockdown is having on the mental health of this nation. So puffed up with your own sense of self importance you have entirely overlooked that for a great many it will be a life line, something to live for. Particularly for older people it may be the only conversation they have for weeks or months. Buying christmas decorations may provide those that are feeling broken and fragile a reason to get up in the morning.

How dare you judge them.

Seriously, some people need to start thinking beyond themselves and covid, and start getting a grip on the reality of this. People should be doing whatever they need to, within the guidelines to get through this.
