Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

I agree. It's because lots of people on here will be hanging around the alcohol aisles in the supermarket spreading covid to each other while simultaneously tut-tutting at their neighbours for popping into Wilko to get some craft stuff to keep the kids busy.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 10:53

And by the way no one anywhere is going to getting back to 'normal' unless they have a lockdown and close the borders completely.
AKA New Zealand and Aussie approach. They are still having flashes but are largely in control of the virus. It is just being suppressed though, it hasn't gone anywhere...

These people on your thread were no doubt those clapping on their doorsteps for the NHS

No, I never did that because it was performative nonsense and every single member of my family who works for the NHS agreed with me.

fantasmasgoria1 · 05/11/2020 10:54

The range sells craft items which I use a lot of. I have a serious and complex mental illness and I need to carry on with projects to keep myself from becoming so poorly I end up in hospital. If I need things I will get them!

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 10:55

complet Asia do not have privacy laws to worry about, or human rights laws to consider...hence the big state is free to do what it wants. China already had a test and trace set up which is used to monitor the population before covid. Cameras on every corner, informants on every street. I can't wait to bring that concept here - Confused

potter5 · 05/11/2020 10:56

Most people follow the rules and are sensible. It's wrong for you to come on here dictating what they can and cannot do. That's why they are taking the piss out of you.

Just live your own life and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing!

loobyloo1234 · 05/11/2020 10:57

I knew it wouldn't be long before the frothers started up with these threads. It was boring last time and its even more boring now.

Pop to the Range OP. They might be able to tell you how to get a life

MessAllOver · 05/11/2020 10:57

Oh do they sell those too?

Completmentfille · 05/11/2020 10:58

This is the accepted rhetoric but I'm afraid it's nonsense. Take Taiwan as an example. An extremely liberal and democratic society. PROPER TEST AND TRACE.

I don't know why people are so determined to believe that lockdowns were the only way that we could have done this. Leading experts like Devi Sridhar agree that test and trace was the way to do it.

fantasmasgoria1 · 05/11/2020 10:59

Russelbrandshair my sentiments exactly!

pointlesss · 05/11/2020 10:59

Does anyone know if home bargains are open ?
If so will they have aisles closed ?

Noideawottodo · 05/11/2020 11:00

Yeah, what she said

BumpLoading · 05/11/2020 11:01

I didnt realise the range was staying open! Yay great news for topping up craft supplies for me and the toddler Halo

LolaSmiles · 05/11/2020 11:01

Most people will do what they can to minimise contact because it's the right thing to do. They might need to go out but they do so whilst limiting contacts.

Other people take the approach of 'I don't see why I should... if I want to browse the shops then why not... nobody should even question the fact I plan on continuing to go out and about everywhere'. They're selfish and there's no point starting threads about them because they fundamentally don't give a damn. They look at the current situation and try to tie themselves in knots so they can follow as few of the rules as possible. Theres no engaging with them.

ShulaArcher · 05/11/2020 11:02

@hf2345 - give over with the Karen slur. It's as tiresome as it is misogynistic.

IwishIwasyoda · 05/11/2020 11:11

Personally I think there are bigger issues about the regularity of testing health and social care staff in higher risk settings, At best this is only done once per week, and I am aware at least in certain settings staff continue to work while awaiting test results. I have been unable to find data indicating hwhat % of staff are tested regularly, or indeed who is classed as needing testing. A review of the testing approach in Scotland in late October did

expanding testing of healthcare workers – with a focus on those caring for the more vulnerable patient groups and potentially too in areas where we are seeing higher community prevalence. Testing for surveillance – at a population level and in key population groups including healthcare workers – should also be prioritised. This is important for early warning and to inform strategic decisions.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 05/11/2020 11:12

My friend's beloved Dad is seriously ill in hospital with Covid. If he passes away it will have a profound impact on her life as she has a disability and she relies heavily on him.

I will still be going out to the garden centre and places like Homebase and a local outdoor market in the next few weeks. I will be very careful about not getting too close to anyone, I'll wash my hands and wear my mask but I want to support the economy and I am not prepared to be caged at home and watch my mental health decline again as badly as it did in the first lockdown. I have my own story as to why being stuck sitting at home would be catastrophic for me, as I'm sure many others do.

I wish we had reached a point where people getting angry on the internet would realise that you can't control other people or tell them what to do. It doesn't work, however strongly you feel about things. I very much want NHS workers to go through this winter facing as little strain as possible because god knows many sound exhausted and traumatised but there has to be a balance in terms of what people are allowed to do. It is completely reasonable for people to go shopping at the moment in most circumstances. That is not going to significantly affect how the virus spreads. It will reduce the massive damage that is being done daily to our economy.

thenightsky · 05/11/2020 11:14

@randomer

How would you like it if you end up on a ventilator you Range shopping bauble hunters?
It wouldn't surprise me to find the Range sell ventilators. Its a world of wonder in there.
TicTacTwo · 05/11/2020 11:15

If you think that closing as many shops as they did in Lockdown 1.0 is going to make a big difference in the figures then you're deluded.

The 2 areas of concern - the care home and education sectors (especially secondary and up) are still running without proper Test Trace Isolate and mass testing available. (Why aren't care homes getting the rapid response tests so residents can have visitors?)

I am guessing that queues outside shops will have to start during peak hours again

Greenhairbrush · 05/11/2020 11:16

Boris is going to extend the lockdown beyond the 2nd Dec anyway. Going to the range isn’t going to make one jot of difference.

Greenhairbrush · 05/11/2020 11:18

😂

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 11:19

I don't think for a minute the lockdown will continue beyond the 2nd of Dec, the R rate is now one in most places! Infection rates are coming down significantly in Liverpool and other places.

I am feeling buoyant that December is looking better than before green

Weallfloatdownhere · 05/11/2020 11:20

Why do people insist on asking "what is the Range" on threads like this? Is your Google broken?

Christmaspud20 · 05/11/2020 11:22

My local ICELAND is in the Range. So I'll be going. And if I happen to need anything from the range. Or I don't want to wait. I'll Get it when there.
