I am slightly concerned. I know ventilation is a must and they have windows and doors open but I didnt expect my DD Yr1 to have been given a second jumper to put on because she was so cold her lips were purple. It actually makes me feel quite sad. Ive had a massive panic tonight about buying new clothes but I am working all day tomorrow and cant get anymore and delivery/ click and collect isnt until 13th nov!
I have spoken to other parents who say their children are hardy and would still wear shorts but my just turned 6 year old weighs 15kg and is tiny!

Thermal underwear will help. Can you put an extra t shirt or two on under her uniform in the meantime?

SansaSnark · 03/11/2020 23:27

Could she be allowed to wear her coat in the classroom? That does sound excessively cold.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 03/11/2020 23:27

Try tights under trousers & a hoody/fleece on top of her usual uniform

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 03/11/2020 23:33

Thank you. Im going to go to matalan tomorrow and hopefully get extra uniform. I have just ordered the school fleece which she can wear over her cardigan. I like her to wear pinefore dresses and tights and trousers dont fit her well because shes so small but hopefully matalan will ahev some tomorrow along with termals.
I feel so sad she got so cold today...

I'd skip the dress in favour of layers of thermals and trousers as well as an extra T-shirt under her jumper

MushMonster · 03/11/2020 23:37

OMG that would worry me so much! Can she wear a fleece or her coat in class tomorrow?
There are thermal leggings too. If she uses ankle boots or black socks, they look like tights.

scorpiomoon · 03/11/2020 23:42

I can't believe the teacher and ta allowed her to get THAT cold without taking any action - they could have got her coat or a blanket or something !! I'd be pissed

scorpiomoon · 03/11/2020 23:42

Oh sorry they gave her a second jumper - but still ! 😟

DenimDrift · 03/11/2020 23:44

Can’t they relax the uniform so they can wear warm comfortable clothes from home?

Saz12 · 03/11/2020 23:46

Woolly hat? Easy for her to put on/off, not as “in the way” as a coat.

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 03/11/2020 23:59

Im literally freaking out/ having a panic attack tonight. Im so worried for tomorrow. Ill have to make do tomorrow until I find a solution.
I work in the preaschool next door and our windows are open but they only open a tiny amount and i would feel awful if anyone got purple lips

Is she allowed to wear a hat and maybe a scarf as keeping her head and neck warmer would be a great help.? Poor little soul.

Seriously - if she’s so cold she has purple lips I think she needs a visit to your GP
NeonGenesis · 04/11/2020 00:30

Tell her to wear her coat in the classroom if she's that cold. These aren't usual times and I'm sure the teacher doesn't care that much about someone wearing a coat. Teacher probably cold too if all the windows are open!

Bowerbird5 · 04/11/2020 00:31

I agree with Denny. Purple or blue lips could be lack of oxygen. I would get a check up.

Get her a vest. Kids always used to wear them now hardly anyone does. It keeps them so much warmer.

gg12346 · 04/11/2020 00:33

thermal inner wear from marks and spencer's is a must in winters .Very irresponsible of the teacher to make it go to that limit .

gg12346 · 04/11/2020 00:37

.Please get your DD checked if it persists .Stop comparing with other kids ,even in the same household some person feels more cold than the other .If I was you I would have spoken to headteacher and made my child wear full trousers in P.E.( There is no fun or no medal given to die in cold ) .

FortunesFave · 04/11/2020 00:51

Get someone to alter the school trousers for you if you can't. It's not hard...buy the elasticated ones...they can take them in at the waist. They'll be a lot warmer than tights and a dress and she can have thermals underneath or long socks. Poor little thing. One of mine was like this...she'd get blue looking lips and it panicked me terribly. She's 12 now and athletic and hardy as any. I always think some kids are more delicate than others till they hit about 10.

INeedNewShoes · 04/11/2020 00:52

For tomorrow, layer her up in a vest/t shirt, plus a long sleeved top under whatever she usually wears to school.

I also have a skinny DD so understand the issue with trousers. Good quality thick cotton tights can be really quite warm. She could also put little ankle socks on over the tights.

Extra layers, no matter how thin, make a huge difference.

thosetalesofunexpected · 04/11/2020 00:58

Hi Op that's terrible, disgraceful that school allowed your daughter to be so cold she ends up having purple lips, buy some thermal under, wear or tights, fleecy jacket, wear a t-shirt under her uniform too,if can't get thermal underwear,
Make you have a word with school about this situation...why do they need window full open like that, why can't they have window slightly ajar.

PyongyangKipperbang · 04/11/2020 01:02

I had a similar issue with DD, and decided that uniform can go to hell.

I will explain to any head in the country that my childs health and comfort comes above make sure they all fucking match.

She is being sent in in her warmest clothes and no one has said a word about it.

Maybe pop a note in her reading diary (assuming you have one) to explain if your anxiety would make you struggle with the "fuck you, my kid comes first" attitude.

jessstan1 · 04/11/2020 01:08

I think it is appalling. I wouldn't sit in such cold conditions, my fingers and toes would be frozen, but your daughter is a child and cannot just walk out! I hope you find what you want in Matalan tomorrow. A scarf, thick tights and fingerless gloves would help.

Is this the way schools are at the moment? I honestly didn't realise that.

Bikingbear · 04/11/2020 01:25

Layer her up, sod the uniform for the next few weeks. Email school and explain.
M&S and Next both do slim fit clothes in boys clothes I'd assume girls is the same and order some thermals and fleeces.
A fleece is more comfy than a big jacket for indoors.

Don't worry about other kids. I have a really skinny 9yo who feels the cold and won't part with his winter jacket but my average built 3yo is generally hot and won't wear his winter jacket.

RainbowMum11 · 04/11/2020 01:34

My DD y3 has worn her coat today, but has been told that as long as an extra jumper/layer is over normal uniform, it's fine - I have been struggling to get vests in her size so will be looking at other alternatives - I much prefer her to be in school with all windows etc open and outside as much as possible than stuck inside all winter.

rottiemum88 · 04/11/2020 01:55

I like her to wear pinefore dresses and tights and trousers dont fit her well

Find this a bit strange to be honest. DS is tiny and we've always found trousers to fit him, you generally just need an elasticated waist. She's bound to be colder in a dress.
