Am considering going to town tomorrow and maybe having lunch out - can’t decide if it’s a good idea (since who knows when we’ll be able to again, realistically) or really stupid, considering the rising levels of infections. Fwiw I’m young(ish), no health conditions and live in an area that has been tier 1 up until now...

Cinema tomorrow night and will go to the pub on Wednesday. Will buy stuff from local retailers for lunch both days.

HundredMilesAnHour · 02/11/2020 17:40

I'm going to the gym twice a day until we lockdown on Thurs.

I'm also going to The Ivy for lunch with my bubble.

Aragog · 02/11/2020 17:40

We moved our reservation at our local pub from Thursday to Tuesday. Originally they were only opening Thursday - Sunday, but after the news changed it to be open Tuesday and Wednesday this week to ensure they could use the food and drink already in. They will open for take away some days from next week.

So not a big night out - a quiet meal for me and dh at our small local pub.

NeverTwerkNaked · 02/11/2020 17:43

,.we didn't even go to restaurants/pubs in summer unless we sat outside as it seemed an unnecessary risk to take

I am acting as if lockdown happened already. But then lots of my family are medics and I care about the impact on them

Ecosse · 02/11/2020 17:45

The doctor posted above crying wolf about 2000 deaths a day will actually reduce compliance when that doesn’t happen.

It has already been discovered that the SAGE projections are weeks out of date. If we were on track for the figures, suggested we’d be seeing over 600 deaths a day.

Why the government continues to go along with Ferguson’s nonsense is beyond me.

No

BathTubGin · 02/11/2020 17:55

Interesting all the people planning takeaways
They were able to open during the last lockdown but most didn't
80% furlough is back- so possibly better to close.

Having a takeaway might not be a choice from Thursday

Deelish75 · 02/11/2020 17:56

Had my hair cut and roots done this morning. The appointment was already booked so carried on as normal - don’t want my hairdresser to go out of business.
I’m swimming tomorrow.
Going shopping on Wednesday - only need to go into three shops. Not planning on having coffee or lunch out.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 02/11/2020 17:59

I took the kids out to get their feet measured yesterday. They'd both one up a size so it was a nessecity.

terriblyangryattimes · 02/11/2020 18:01

We are out for dinner this evening, but its more a reward for doing a huge tip run (it was busy!) Not planning on going anywhere near the shops of the queues outside Sainsburys car park are anything to go by!

TheGreatWave · 02/11/2020 18:01

Yes, but by design rather than planned. I have a hospital appointment in another town, that has quite a nice little high street so I had always planned to go after and get some lunch somewhere. It's worked out well with the dates.

RaininSummer · 02/11/2020 18:04

I wont be but eating out isn't a regular thing for me anyway. Really out of the habit now as haven't eaten out for at least 9 months.

RumHoney · 02/11/2020 18:23

Yes. The holiday I'd booked for next week is cancelled so I've switched some of the annual leave (which I need to use before the end of next month) to tomorrow so that I can do frivolous and non-essential things like having lunch in a cafe.

Aragog · 02/11/2020 18:27

Supporting our local pub is one of the key reasons for keeping our reservation, but moving it to tomorrow, and why we will be using their take out service. We want them to survive this. We want them to still be there when this is over.

I am still recovering from Covid so the risk of me catching again, a month on, is very limited, despite being vulnerable myself.
The chances of me currently being contagious( it is over 3 weeks now and I don't have any of the big 3 symptoms now) is also unlikely so I am not a risk to anyone else.

So no, I don't think it is irresponsible to have a quiet meal with my husband in our local pub, which is doing a great job of ensuring social distancing, following the rules, etc.

Aragog · 02/11/2020 18:29

They were able to open during the last lockdown but most didn't

Lots of places did take away last time. Our local pub has already said they are going to be, as have a number of other places locally. Plus the normal take aways were all open last time.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 02/11/2020 18:33

No but haven’t done any of those things since March as don’t feel the risk is worth it. Everything is a drive away anyway so we have always used online for most things anyway.

EternalOptimist7 · 02/11/2020 18:37

Can’t afford it. I did have a haircut today & getting eyebrows/chin waxed tomorrow.

UnalliterativeGeorge · 02/11/2020 18:40

I'm going to go and borrow the maximum amount of books I can from the library and then on Wednesday I'm seeing my mum because she now can't come on my birthday on Thursday.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 02/11/2020 18:44

Yes absolutely. I've barely seen anyone for 6 weeks as I was isolating before and after major surgery. There are very low cases in my area, I want to support some local businesses and feel free for a few hours. I have done my best to follow the rules all year, I will continue to do so but I matter too. I need to be out the house and grab some fun while I can.

And anyone judging people going out needs to mind their own business. Lots of people have made huge sacrifices this year and there are tough times ahead. That doctor has no more of a clue than anyone else how many deaths there will be in November. There are lots of reasons to believe he is overestimating numbers.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/11/2020 18:49

We've just finished a delicious "last meal out". Kids were thrilled to bits with the novelty - we normally only eat at weekends, and during the day.

Feel so sorry for hospitality staff. Have decided we'll have a family take away once a week to try and keep businesses going.

Whatyoucanandcantdo · 02/11/2020 18:51

Will go to the gym for last time Wed hopefully, feel so sorry for them. Bit of local independent shopping Thurs too.

nex18 · 02/11/2020 19:16

Absolutely. It’s my biggest regret that I took notice of the government suggestion that we didn’t go out (but everything was still open) for ds’s birthday in March. Wish we hadn’t cancelled plans for a family meal.

NeedWineNow · 02/11/2020 20:20

Yes. DH's birthday is Thursday and we'd booked to go to the Ivy for dinner and have a couple of nights in a hotel in London. As that's now off we're going to our local Indian on Wednesday night with close friends instead.

dolphinpose · 04/11/2020 08:37

I'm off for one final moonlit bootcamp in the frosty park tonight before it all goes online. Can't for the life of me see how exercising in fresh air with loads of space around each person is mor elikely to spread Covid than keeping schools open.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 04/11/2020 08:41

I had a lovely last lunch with a friend on Monday. We don't know when we'll next get chance to see each other (don't live close to each other and both use public transport) and she lives on her own. Wine and pudding and all, it was glorious.

And this morning I'm meeting my Pilates class in the park for one last face to face before we're driven back to zoom. We usually meet on Thursday, but that will be illegal from midnight tonight.
