Am considering going to town tomorrow and maybe having lunch out - can’t decide if it’s a good idea (since who knows when we’ll be able to again, realistically) or really stupid, considering the rising levels of infections. Fwiw I’m young(ish), no health conditions and live in an area that has been tier 1 up until now...

I was planning a trip to a shopping centre to finish my Christmas shopping, I'm off work this week for the last time before Christmas and wanted to get it all finished. I'm in two minds now whether to bother, are big shopping centres rammed does anyone know?

AliciaWhiskers · 02/11/2020 16:11

Knowing that EOTHO contributed to the increase in case numbers in August, living in an area with high numbers, working for the NHS so having been told to minimise contact outside of work, having kids in school, and being pregnant mean it's a no from me.

Saladfingersscaresme · 02/11/2020 16:15

@chocolatesaltyballs22 Happy Birthday!
No, back under house arrest here with a disabled DC. I’m planning on plenty of takeaways though.

MrsJonesAndMe · 02/11/2020 16:15

We went for a coffee as a family to "our" little cafe yesterday. Tomorrow I will be returning a parcel to a shop and books to the library. That's it really!

Going to be lost without that little bit of a treat/outing to go to the cafe Sad

Sparklingbrook · 02/11/2020 16:15

No. Eating out is way too much trouble at the moment, and it makes me feel at risk and uncomfortable however good the set up is. I do support the local takeaways though before I get accused of not caring!

Plussizejumpsuit · 02/11/2020 16:15

In general I haven't been out much
I don't enjoy it much. But we have cinema membership and have been maybe 3 or 4 times. It's very very quiet. For example a few couples in a large screen. So we're considering this as I feel it's a way more safe activity than the supermarket for example.

BathTubGin · 02/11/2020 16:19

Going out to the pub I caught covid in 4 weeks ago on Wednesday.
Hair and nails booked for Wednesday
Dog being groomed
Christmas shopping being done. Stuff to return.

I have only just been allowed out from isolation, I am making the most of these 3 days.

Changechangychange · 02/11/2020 16:21

Doing a blitz of toddler activities with DS this week - all either outside (zoo, local NT property) or very covid-secure (swimming, capped at 10 people and we are always the only people in the learner pool), all just him and me. Not socialising or doing anything within 2m of other people.

MrsJonesAndMe · 02/11/2020 16:22

How is your mum @TheoriginalLEM? (Been following your threads for years, posted on the one about her moving home and saw she has broken her hip)

Big (((hugs))) for you

Fuss · 02/11/2020 16:24

Yes.
Its our wedding anniversary in lockdown so we're going out Wednesday night in advance of it.

Dyra · 02/11/2020 16:26

I'm going Christmas shopping with my Mum tomorrow. We had planned to do it on the 10th, but we rearranged early last week to go on the 3rd instead. She's barely seen DD since March, and I have no faith that this lockdown will allow us to see her for Christmas. It's all I've had to look forward to for a while, and I'm not about to give it up.

TheoriginalLEM · 02/11/2020 16:30

@MrsJonesAndMe thankyou i managed to see her. I am waiting on call from hospital to say she is back on the ward. No news is good news i guess 🤞

elliejjtiny · 02/11/2020 16:34

No. My mum is coming round on Wednesday for the last time but she was doing that anyway. We have only been going out to school, hospital appointments, food shopping and the occasional quick walk since March anyway so the only real difference is not being allowed to visit my parents.

Peridot1 · 02/11/2020 16:43

I’m meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow. We move away from the area next week so won’t be able to so easily.

Not many cases where we are and going to a quiet pub so should be ok.

I might try and do some shopping for Christmas on Wednesday too. And DH is 60 at the end of the month so need a few things for that. There are a few nice little independent shops in town so I might head there.

Waspnest · 02/11/2020 16:56

No. Unless buying jam jars for marathon jam/chutney making sessions count. We're in tier 2, cases are rising rapidly locally so to have a final blowout seems incredibly stupid (IMO).

Bvop · 02/11/2020 16:59

I had a haircut this afternoon. It was a shampoo and cut with no time for a blow dry as the salon staff were rushed off their feet but I feel great: I hated it that I couldn’t get a haircut for four months last time.

Dan1980 · 02/11/2020 17:06

@quantumcreature

height of irresponsibility
30,000 - 40,000 die per year of air pollution each year so if you drive you are irresponsible using this holier than tho virtue signalling by helping contribute to it. If you are concerned about the NHS being overwhelmed and smoke or drink alcohol which are the main contributors to hospital admissions meaning you take up a hospital bed you are by your own bar of morality very irresponsible and a complete hypocrite
5lilducks · 02/11/2020 17:19

No, we will not as Covid is not going to wait until 5th to infect people. It's infecting people now. Tbh we can't really enjoy a meal out with the threat of having to self isolate for 14 days hanging over us. I wouldn't be able to take my toddler to the park for even a little run around if we have to self isolate . Not worth the risk for us!

Boredsilly · 02/11/2020 17:24

I'm going to the gym a couple times and visiting a close friend before we lock down on Thursday

LindaEllen · 02/11/2020 17:27

I'd say you're not being unreasonable to do whatever you like, so long as it's within the law at the time.

For example I went shopping today to buy my dad's birthday presents - he's 60 before the end of the lockdown so I wanted it sorted now while I had access to all of the shops. We will also be going to a coffee shop tomorrow.

MarcelineMissouri · 02/11/2020 17:29

We went for a last meal out on Saturday.
I’ve done my last gym class today, also took dc to the library to stock up. I am aiming to go swimming tomorrow and Wednesday and also managed to get a last minute hair appointment for Wednesday.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/11/2020 17:32

No but I had my hair coloured today and I'm having my nails done and legs waxed tomorrow. I wanted my eyelashes done but sadly my eyelid puffed up so no one would want to go near that!

Glenthebattleostrich · 02/11/2020 17:34

Last group run with my group tonight.
Trip to a farm tomorrow.
Walk in a country park Wednesday then DD is having fish and chips in a friend's garden and toasting marshmallows after school.

I'll be very surprised if this only lasts a month. I fully intend to make sure I see friends beforehand. I've seen my mum once in 9 months I'll be damned if I'm going to miss out seeing my friends.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/11/2020 17:35

Yes, out for dinner tonight and off to Sissinghurst tomorrow (it's a garden, so outside!)

dolphinpose · 02/11/2020 17:37

Yes. Tickets to a museum, then cocktails then dinner. And have encouraged DC (both at uni) to do the same. Legal, helps the economy and helps MH.

DS1 is just comingout of 2 weeks isolation on Wednesday. he's getting haircut, having lunch, then drinks with friends, trying to pack in as much SD activity as he can before he gets locked up again.

The world feels so endlessly weird right now. (Statement of the obvious!)
