Are you going for ‘one last’ meal out/shopping trip/museum trip?

Am considering going to town tomorrow and maybe having lunch out - can’t decide if it’s a good idea (since who knows when we’ll be able to again, realistically) or really stupid, considering the rising levels of infections. Fwiw I’m young(ish), no health conditions and live in an area that has been tier 1 up until now...

No.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 02/11/2020 14:52

Absolutely I am. Went out last night as well. All safe, clean and distanced. Why wouldn't I?

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 02/11/2020 14:54

No. It’s just as dodgy now as when we enter lockdown. Why would l go out more?

Poppyismyfavourite · 02/11/2020 14:58

not really - although I sent DH to B&Q on sunday and he said it was absolutely rammed!

Jocasta2018 · 02/11/2020 15:01

Yesterday there was a craft fair at my local town so I went to that then into a non-chain restaurant for lunch - support independent & local businesses.
Wednesday I'm out for lunch at my local pub.
We're in a Tier 1 area so things I would've been doing anyway.

Audreyseyebrows · 02/11/2020 15:04

No. I can’t understand why it’s ok today but not on Thursday? Do they start pumping out gas on Thursday?

10storeylovesong · 02/11/2020 15:05

We're tier 3 so not much open anyway! But meeting 2 friends for a walk with takeaway coffee on Wednesday night and taking sil for some non essential shopping when I finish work later as she doesn't shop online.

People doing this are EXACTLY why giving the public notice is a BAD idea.

The reason we are going into lockdown is because cases are high & increasing, WTAF would you rush around doing stuff that'll make it worse 🙇🏻‍♀️

safariboot · 02/11/2020 15:09

No, but I'm skint anyway.

I understand wanting to get important but non-"essential" shopping done, but "let's party before lockdown YAY" is not a good attitude to take!

Graciebobcat · 02/11/2020 15:14

I tried to go for one last haircut but they are too busy. D'oh!

oneglassandpuzzled · 02/11/2020 15:18

We are self-isolating until Wednesday when my husband has an operation. So I have a few hours on Wednesday pm. But I am having my own medical procedure done on Thursday and am being cautious.

Last lockdown we’d already isolated for two weeks in advance as well as one of us had a cough and no tests were allowed.

RaspAsYouChokeOnTheToupee · 02/11/2020 15:18

We went out for breakfast on Sunday morning and if it weren’t for an unexpected expense, we’d be going out again before Thursday. We’d already decided we wanted some time out of the house before Saturday’s announcement and now facing another month in the house, I’m glad we did. We’re tier 1 and one of the lowest number of cases in England. I’d like these places to still be open after lockdown and so they need every bit of help they can get. It might have been different if I was in tier 3 though.

Piratetree · 02/11/2020 15:19

No but dc 2 and 3 have opticians appointments tomorrow that I’m keen to stick to.

I’m also toying with the idea of popping into our local collective store while I’m in town (lots of local independent traders selling under one roof) to buy a few Christmas presents as this is going to hit them hard and the store may not be able reopen but I’m not sure whether to.

MollysMummy2010 · 02/11/2020 15:22

I have just taken my daughter out for lunch as we are out of quarantine today after 14 days stuck inside and now face at least a month of restrictions. All her clubs which were due to start up again have just been cancelled.

Fantasisa · 02/11/2020 15:22

Going out for dinner every night until Thursday and nipped into town today. Tier 1 here so I see absolutely no reason to stop supporting local businesses while I still can.

notalwaysalondoner · 02/11/2020 15:24

Yes, I want to support local businesses and am in the lowest tier so am actually going for multiple meals out.

1forAll74 · 02/11/2020 15:25

No, as there is no difference from now until Thursday, the virus is spreading all over everywhere every day. So the more people who rush out for the last supper so to speak, are not doing anyone any favours.

AriettyHomily · 02/11/2020 15:25

I've got a hair appointment on Wednesday, I'm keeping it. I haven't had my hair cut since before the first lockdown and it REALLY needs it.

Qasd · 02/11/2020 15:27

Yes arranging quite a few things, coffee with friends, trip to swimming pool. Heck I learned from last time don’t lockdown before you have to..it’s not like it will be over any time soon!

timeforawine · 02/11/2020 15:31

Managed to get my hair done thankfully, next apt was end Nov so have nudged it to 3rd Dec when we're told things SHOULD relax a bit.
Have been to town today and will go again Wed for any bits i can think of just in case we don't re open in Dec, such as stamps, Christmas cards, stocking filler gifts, loungewear (a must for lockdown!) and nice snacks from M&S

quantumcreature · 02/11/2020 15:31

height of irresponsibility

frenchand · 02/11/2020 15:33

Interesting range of views... I caught Covid just before lockdown before. Definitely makes me more cautious. I spent the whole time wondering where I got it (I think on a bus coming home from work, someone coughing in the seat behind me)... but kept thinking if only I hadn’t gone for that meal, etc. Think I might stick to outdoor socialising/essential appointments pre Thursday. That twitter post by a doctor also sobering reading.

To defend my stance, it's my birthday today and everything I did at the weekend was already planned for the event. It's hardly 'going out partying' ahead of lockdown.

Fantasisa · 02/11/2020 15:35

Life is for living, I'm not going to not go for a meal in case some people on Mumsnet disapprove.
