People taking rules to the extreme

So annoying. The government cannot wrote a handbook to cover every single possible scenario and interaction so why can't people just use some initiative?

If I see one more post asking others if this is allowed, if that's allowed. It's silly.

If I see one more post about going to work, boris said EVERYONE can carry on working if they can't do their job at home. It's that simple. What else do people want?

The rules are not clear which is why people need clarification (or, even better, all the Cv19 rules abolished).

Even in relation to going in to do offiec work there are battles up and down the country and have been since March between some employees wanting to stay at home and employers wanting them in the office and vice versa.

@Mamamia456 that's where I mean intuitive needs to come into play, obviously if you are a retail shop, leisure facility etc then you close - everyone else goes to work. I don't know what's so hard?

I don't think they're always clear. My driving instructor said yesterday that he intends to continue because he clearly can't work from home but then he said he wasn't certain because obviously his clients shouldn't be leaving their home for non essentials..

@Xenia office workers stay at home depending on your role in the office. If you handle incoming post for example, you can't do that from home so would go to the office?

@kezziethecat but the instructor isn't breaking the rules? So he can continue to work, if people have lessons it's up to them to be deliberating

You know that the rules in the four nations are all different and some of us have to cross borders on a regular basis don’t you?.....

It is a bttle royal going on in firms eg one of my daughters is very keen to go into the office. her boy firend has just been told their are going to close his office too (yet again) and he is not happy - in his view he cannot do his job properly from home. In both cases the employers do not agree with the staff in that direction. in the other direction some law firms have made staff go in all the time as they say the work cannot be done from home and some workers disagree. it is as clear as mud but in general if you want to keep your job you tend to have to do what the employer says even if you share a bed sit and one room with 3 other people on bunks at home!

The fact that shops will be closed to the public doesn't stop employers asking people to work in them. Some retail premises (especially independent businesses) may be used for processing and packing orders for delivery which is entirely permitted and staff could be required to work on such services. Additionally work such as moving stock around in preparation for reopening, stock takes, deep cleaning and other tasks that cannot be performed with customers in the shop may be performed during this time.

Yes I agree it’s not clear good example. It wouldn’t harm for Borris to clarify this instead of repeating the same things on the news updates.

My sister in law works in a non essential shop. She worked throughout the entire lockdown in the stock room. I assume it was preparing online orders etc.

My daughter told me that one of her teachers was heavily delayed at the Welsh England border last week by the police scrutinising her college pass. Apparently they didn't believe she was teacher working in England!

Is it enough to wear masks, sanitise between students and drive around with the windows open? Genuine question.

We're still waiting for confirmation of whether my son's driving lessons will continue - his instructor hasn't been told yet whether he can continue. Regarding whether they are essential, when he's passed his test, my son will be driving to his job in a shop which sells essentials, so he'll probably be classed as a key worker, so although he's part time, I guess it's pretty essential for full time key workers. Waiting to see if he'll need a letter from his employer if this is the case. Interestingly, the instructor did have a pupil who tested positive for covid a few weeks back and the instructor didn't manage to catch it, so something must be working!

During the last lockdown, they were allowed for essential workers who needed to pass their driving test for their essential work, they were allowed if wearing masks, cleaning surfaces between lessons, ventilation, etc.

I agree Op. How very dare anyone ask for advice and support. Awful.

My instructor said that he stopped all lessons for 3 months last time and retrospectively didn't think he needed to. He got awarded a grant but only 3 months after lockdown started and he said it didn't cover his losses. Therefore he's going to try to continue this time but isn't sure if customers are permitted to continue.

I think it sounds fine if it’s done like that. If I was an instructor I would continue because it’s “work” technically. It seems a grey area.

I’m assuming I will continue to work from my office, which is a publishing company. But it’s also a print shop too, so not exactly essential. Or is it?
